One Pound Away

Friday, August 24, 2012

I gained about 12 pounds in July while away on a 3 week vacation, 2 weeks of which were a cruise. I refocused when I returned and have gradually been shedding the weight I gained. This morning when I stepped on the scale I was only one pound away from my goal or starting weight! Thank goodness for the spark tools (especially the nutrition tracker!) and online support which make it easy to get back down to it! Woo hoo!

Bad Night for Treats

Monday, August 20, 2012

Last night we sat down for a couple of games of cards after dinner. Jujubes and chips were brought out and instead of only having a few of each, I overdid it! I seem to have little resistance where treats are concerned! Since I had also had dessert I felt really stuffed by the time I went to bed. All I could do was refocus and hope that today would be a better nutrition day which it has been. It's amazing how the next day the slate is wiped clean and you get to try all over again, particularly if you don't beat yourself up over one slip.

It is definitely tough to just have a few! Sometimes I just have to say No all together - once I have one I keep wanting more because I had the taste in my mouth haha. Have you tried having your own snacks with you? I used to feel silly bringing my own, but now other people have tried them & they like them too!

Sounds like you have a the right attitude. Since joining SparkPeople I've developed a new attitude regarding slip-ups. That attitude is, "Well, that was fun, now back on track!" I know that for me, I have to allow myself a few times of "cheating" or I won't stick to my weight loss goals for the long run.

Trying to Start Running

Saturday, August 18, 2012

While up at the cottage I try to walk for about 2 hours a day. In order to add some variety to my routine, I've started to add some running to my program. I've never been a runner probably because I've had extra weight to carry around. But today out of the 2 hours I managed to run for 60 minutes (not fast mind you!). The length of time I ran ranged from 5 to 17 minutes in between the walking. I'm starting to think about possibly walking / running a 5k, we'll see. I'm very pround of what I've been able to accomplish so far and I'm sure my weight loss has made it much easier to run.

That is how you do it Great job! There are some excellent guides, I recommend couch potato to 5k, just google it, and the training is exactly like what you describe, times of walking, times of jogging, until you are finally jogging more than you are walking and then you have done it! Remember to have really good shoes, they really make a difference! I have done several 5k's and a half marathon, yep, this non-running individual has become a runner...and I started with much less training than you have done! Way to go!

Excellent job! In addition to adding variety to your daily exercising, running will allow you to burn more calories so make sure you stay hydrated and allow yourself some extra calories on the days you do run.

Dragon Boat Regatta

Monday, August 13, 2012

I participated in my second regatta of the year yesterday and we managed to win our division and 'the spirit award'! Not bad! The weather even held out for us which was an added bonus. There is great teamwork involved in getting 20 people to paddle together and we were definitely in sync by our third race. We went from a time of 2:33 (min) to 2:22, the first time we've beaten 2:30 in a 500 metre race. All in all it was a great day and worth getting up at 5:45 am!

Internet at the Cottage

Tuesday, August 07, 2012

Just found out yesterday that I can get wireless at the cottage by using a relative's network. Needless to say I've been on the SP website yesterday and today. Don't want to spend too much time on the site while I'm up here but nice to know I can now pick up emails and get my SP fix too!
