Short One Tonight

Tuesday, June 26, 2012

Went to dragon boat paddle tonight and there were only 7 of us rather than a full boat of 20. We still went out for the hour session and had more individual focus from the coach than we would in a full boat. The water was also quite choppy which made for difficult paddling. I'm sure I'll feel it tomorrow morning when I'm off to paddle again! So getting quite sleepy and will cut this blog short. Sweet dreams everyone!

I'm Bushed!

Monday, June 25, 2012

Held a bridal shower today and all the planning, shopping etc it entailed. Went off without a hitch (ha ha!). But I'm tired from three days of events and looking forward to sleeping in and getting a long walk in Monday.

My First Timed 5k & 10k

Saturday, June 23, 2012

I just came back from a long walk and decided to time when I'd walked both a 5 and 10k. My 5k time was 36 minutes while my 10k was 81 minutes - woo hoo! That's probably faster than I could run the distances as I haven't become a runner yet, although I'm toying with the idea. In total I walked 14.3 km in just under 2 hours! No wonder my legs are sore! Pretty proud of myself...I'm a walking fool!

Snack Attack

Friday, June 22, 2012

Last night I watched the last 10 minutes of the basketball game and ate over 50 almonds...yikes! I've been pretty good about no longer having out of control snack attacks but last night was an exception. I guess I was hungry and just started eated mindlessly which happens. Oh well, I didn't beat myself up over it, just recorded it in my nutrition tracker and moved on. Today is a much better day and I just got back from a 1 hr 45 min walk. I'm tired but must run to get ready for dinner and a concert tonight. Since we're eating at home I should be able to control my food intake and stay within range.

I've volunteered to be on two curling committees next year, the drawmaster for my daytime group, and the bonspiel committee for the business ladies. On Sunday this week I was approached by one of my team mates about assuming her Secretary position on the curling club's Board of Directors (BoD). It doesn't appear that the most recent request will take an inordinate amount of time given that the BoD only meets once a month. As I approach my one year anniversary of being retired, I think I can take on this additional responsibility without becoming overwhelmed.

For the first year of retirement, I wanted to focus on my health, weight loss and getting exercise back into my life. All of these goals have been successfully accomplished! Now that I'm in maintenance mode, and healthy eating and exercise are part of my lifestyle change, I'm ready to tackle more challenges! Bring it on!

Good for you - I think volunteering helps us spiritually as well as other ways!
