Still Maintaining & Even Dropping a Few Pounds

Friday, October 26, 2012

I'm now 7 months into my maintenance and have managed to drop a further couple of pounds since the end of March. I still faithfully enter my food on a daily basis into the nutrition tracker as I find the discipline necessary to keep within my suggested calorie range. I've also maintained my level of exercise as I shift from spring / summer activities into fall /winter ones. I played golf for the first time in years and liked it enough to go three more times before curling started. I think I have another sport for next spring/summer when I'm in town on Tuesdays! Dragon boating twice a week has been replaced by curling four times a week plus gentle fitness and pilates classes twice a week. I'm debating whether I can dragon boat competitively next year which would involve a ramped up level of physical fitness and a big time commitment to paddle and work out. Humm...it would certainly be a huge challenge for me but not sure it would be fair to my husband. I need to think about it some more obviously.

You are a great inspiration! Your maintenance is going so well. Plus you do a great job of changing exercise in the various seasons.

I love to watch dragon boat races!!

Closing the Cottage

Saturday, October 06, 2012

Despite a rainy day, it was quite a busy day outside at the cottage. We cleaned all the chairs and they're put away, the boats are out of the water and under the cottage, the canoes and windsurfers are in the rafters and the toys are removed from the sandpile. Although there are still lots of things to do, Sunday will be dedicated to getting the cottage ready to host 43 people! The turkeys have been cooked and carved but the rest of the food needs to be prepared and desserts cooked and the tables and chairs set up. People should start arriving by 4 pm and dinner will be served around 6 pm. Looking forward to a great Thanksgiving dinner with lots of family and food!

Canadian Thanksgiving

Thursday, October 04, 2012

Wow, where did the year go? It's already Thanksgiving weekend! We're heading up to the cottage tomorrow and having our turkey dinner on Sunday with my husband's relatives. Although we only had 35 people in 2011 we're looking at high 40's this year. One of my husband's rules is we all have to eat in the same room which should be a challenge this year! Regardless, it's a great time to catch up with everyone before closing the cottage for another year. My husband and I were baking tonight so we can leave after lunch on Friday. Looking forward to some downtime after a very busy week of curling admin matters.

Golf is over for the year...sigh

Tuesday, October 02, 2012

I played golf, albeit only best ball, for the first time in many years in Sept. The occasion was a dragon boat team outing and it was very successful. The weather cooperated and we had a great turnout, not to mention a lot of laughs. I picked up some instruction and everyone was very helpful.

I had decided to buy some used clubs online so I could easily continue to play a few more times before curling season began. Of course there's a Tuesday morning group that plays from early May through Oct so I had a ready group to join. I made it out three more times including today and it was great to get a few hours of exercise walking around a very pretty little course with the sun shining! The trees were already changing colours today and I'm sorry that I'll now have to wait until next May to play again. I'm gonna miss it...

Oh well, curling starts up again next Tuesday and I'm getting excited about getting back on the ice!

End of September - 6 Months of Maintenance!

Sunday, September 30, 2012

I reached my goal weight in late March 2012 and have maintained it through the next six months. Of course there have been increases in weight following vacations as I've gained 10+ lbs but have managed in each case to drop the lbs soon after getting back into my regular eating and exercising routines. Woo hoo!

Instead of fretting while I'm away, I know I have the tools, support and willpower to refocus when I return and I can enjoy my vacation! It's quite reassuring to me that I have done this after mini-vacations, weekends away or special occasions. Maybe I've gotten the hang of this 'lifestyle change' and not thought of it as a diet only. Thanks to SP and my spark friends for reinforcing that!

On to the next 6 months of maintenance!

Congratulations! Thanks for being a fine example of the SP lifestyle. I am following in your footsteps and will have 6 months in Jan. I am already rehearsing skills I will need to get thru the winter holidays. emoticon
