I Still Have a To Do List

Saturday, July 16, 2011

Although I was able to accomplish a lot of things yesterday that I had been putting off for awhile, there are still many things that I'd like to do. I do know that I'm working on scheduling my time better - and I think I've improved a little in this area. But I guess I still need some work on this. When I sit down to plan my week (either today or tomorrow), I will be more aware of planning some time to do at least a couple of these projects. Maybe I'll be able to catch up in a couple months or so! (I am shooting on a day before then!) Why is it that, as we get older, it gets harder to accomplish everything we want to?

I learned to relax because it is never all going to get done. Do your best and take time to enjoy life.

I never get everything done in one day, but like they said above, just prioritize. You will get it.

I read a book a while ago which was called Eat that Frog. It really encourages you to do the things you least like to do first and then the smaller stuff. It certainly helped me get things done that I kept putting off :)!

I have learned in my old age that I have to pace myself and some days I still forget and think I can do everything I did when I was 19!

I wrote about this myself earlier this week...thought it was trying to do too much; plus I read an article about balance, setting goals this week too. Must be the theme of the week!

Prioritize! You've had a lot of changes, at least it seems to me, in your life and maybe you are trying to play 'catch up.' I suggest looking at your projects and categorizing; some people find using an a,b,c scale helps.

Be willing to let some stuff go. For what you really want to do, break it into bite sized pieces, like we do w/SP goals. I.e. instead of saying "I want to learn _____ software", say today I will research 3 ways I can learn ______ software, and create a comparison sheet.

Hope at least some of my suggestions are helpful!

Catch-up Day

Friday, July 15, 2011

My boss had meetings outside the office all day today so I didn't have to go in. I don't have keys yet, and I had gotten as far as I could on the project that I was working on. This gives me a chance to do some things around the house and around town that I've been putting off all week. I'm looking at this as a good way to ease into the job and into the new schedule.

I do know that if I don't get the hours that the boss has been talking about, however, that I will have to really get moving with Avon and get creative in other ways in order to bring in enough money to keep up the household budget. The budget is another thing that I really need to sit down and review. Just another thing to add to my list. I think I'll pencil it in for Sunday and see what kind of figures I need to come up with.

On a good note, I'm getting better at scheduling my time. I'm quitting running around at about the same time every night in order to relax and get to sleep at a normal time. So, I've had some success at one of my goals!

Do I have a confidence builder finally?

Thursday, July 14, 2011

I've been feeling pretty good about this new job so far. The boss is patient and willing to show me things I'm not sure about. I've actually been able to use some things that I've learned in my classes that I've just taken. I feel a little more motivated lately. It's a good feeling.

There's still that part of me that hesitates to say that this job will work out and that I will finally have a schedule that I can learn to live with. I've had a couple not-so-good experiences with jobs lately that have deflated my ego. I'm still a little cautious about counting on this job. I will feel better after I've been there a couple weeks and I still feel confident about the experience. Oh, to only be a confident person more often!

Remember you have the potential! Stay positive, keep a willing to try attitude, and be the kind of person people want to be around - good vibes.

You can do it! If not this job, you are getting experience for the next one. An employer is waiting for you.

Confidence is a tricky thing. Being unfamiliar with duties in a new job is enough to make most anyone uncomfortable. Hang in there and remember you are not expected to know everything on your first few days.

Work Update

Wednesday, July 13, 2011

My first day at work went fast, even though there wasn't a whole lot that I accomplished. We were trying to get my computer to hook up to the internet system and, no matter what we tried, it didn't work. So, hopefully today, that problem will be fixed and I will have a little more to do. I have been offered more hours already. It seems the other administrative assistant is not consistent as far as showing up for work. Hooray for me! I just wish the pay was a little better. But, considering what money I had coming in, I will not complain. I will continue to watch my budget very carefully and keep up with my Avon for extra money.

I realize it will probably take a couple weeks to get some sort of schedule for myself. I'm glad that I've already started on keeping track on how long it takes me to do some things and that I've been trying to streamline my activities. I still need to work on that, though.

congratulations! Yes, it will take time to get a schedule figured out, esp w/work being temp assignments. Just keep those long term goals in mind and do a bit when you can.

First Day Jitters

Tuesday, July 12, 2011

It's my first day at my new part time job. I slept okay - I was up a few times and dreaming that the Brady Bunch was in my dream - but I woke up okay. I had time to check my emails only to find out that Avon only acknowledged half of the items I sent back. The guy I talked to only made me confused and agitated - not a good way to start the day. But, I'm doing some calming techniques hoping that they will kick in before I leave in a few minutes. I'm not sure what the day will bring, but I'm headed into it full force. I can only give it my best and go from there,

good for you to do some calming techniques, so you don't carry that annoying guy with you all day.

I hope this job goes well and that you get a long term assignment. I've temped before and know that a day here and a day there can be very stressing; hard to keep a routine.
