Another Week Begins

Monday, May 02, 2011

It's the start of another week. I have high hopes for good things to happen this week. At least, I want to feel like I have accomplished something. I believe I will succeed.

The weather forecasters are predicting rain for northern Alabama. This is the only thing that I am concerned with this morning. My daughter is still without power and sitting in a relatively new beautiful house with tarp on the roof where the shingles have come off. A hard rain will only cause more damage. I'm saying extra prayers for her.

Emotions are like the Weather

Sunday, May 01, 2011

The day started and will end with rain. So, it's just a cloudy, dreary, boring day. My emotions seem to be running with the weather: I'm worrying about a few things today that I really don't have much control over. I am working on getting out of that mood: a nice long walk may do the trick.

A Different Kind of Day For Me

Saturday, April 30, 2011

I actually got about nine hours of sleep last night. Woo hoo! I can't remember the last time I've done that. I don't really have a long list of things that must be done today either. So, I get to play the day by ear and will maybe just be lazy and enjoy the day. Another woo hoo!

Job Searching is a Full Time Job

Friday, April 29, 2011

I've been spending so much time every day applying for jobs. The majority of the time, I don't get any response from the companies I apply to. It's rare that I get an interview. I'm getting discouraged and am beginning to wonder if there are any jobs out there. Or maybe I just don't have the right skills. I don't know...I just have to find my positive attitude again.

I really don't think it's you or your fault. I think times are just tough. It used to be that you needed to send out about 100 inquiries to get 3 responses. It may be even worse now. Try to hang in there!

I'm in the same place you are. It's easy to get discouraged but keep trying and keep your head up. The right job will come along.

Yes sometimes it feels that there aren't any jobs, but you only need one person to give you an opportunity and that means putting the same effort into every resume or CV taht yo send out. Have you tried an agency?

BTDT more times than I care to think about - I just got back into the worklife after about 6 weeks off, and I'm not a "spring chicken"......just hang in there!

Southern Tornados

Thursday, April 28, 2011

My oldest daughter lives in Madison, AL - a city that is completely surrounded by Huntsville. She called me on her cell phone last night to have me pull up the Huntsville weather. Her power was out and she wanted to know how long the bad weather was going to last.

Many of the shingles on her roof were in her back yard. (Needless to say, there were leaks in the roof.) The hammock that was in her back yard was missing in action. The fairly new fence will need some repairs. BUT, my daughter, her husband and the grand-animals were all okay. And the rain tapered off not long after I spoke with her.

After watching the news this morning, I am very grateful that they made it through the bad weather. Yes, there will be a little aggravation getting my daughter's house back in order. But that's not so bad a price to pay considering how bad so many others had been affected by the weather.

So glad to hear they are all safe. It was terrible to watch all the news today. So many people lost everything.

We had storms in the middle of the night, but I didn't hear any tornado sirens. Lower AL was really lucky this time.
