Work Christmas Luncheon

Tuesday, December 21, 2010

The work Christmas luncheon was today. I wasn't impressed at all. First off, most everyone headed over to the conference room without telling the people in the corner that I work in. So, I didn't have a place to sit. Someone finally found me a spot in the middle of the crowded tables. Everyone was involved in their own little conversations, so I sat there quietly. We all brought presents, got tickets, and got to pick a present on the table or one that was already open. The present I picked was pretty good, but quickly got chosen by someone else. So, I got to go back to the table and pick out another present: oreo cookies and homemade earrings.
And the girl sitting next to me commented about how she thought the present I brought was the worse gift brought. My spirits have not picked up since then. And I was so hoping I'd make it through the holidays without feeling down.

I hate those gift exchanges! Don't let it get to you. In the long run it's not important. Holidays are difficult for a lot of people. Try to go with the flow and take some time for yourself.

Today is my birthday. My husband had some minor surgery today, so I spent most of the day at the hospital. Then my son came by for supper and to tell us his girl friend dumped him. I put beef stew in the slow cooker before we left for the hospital, so at least we had a good supper. The best part of my day was weight lifting at the gym early this morning. A strange day.

emoticonDon't let what happens at work bring you down. I'm always doing that to myself and I know better. You gave from your heart and that's what counts. Enjoy Christmas with your family and friends, those that truely care about you. Merry Christmas!

You gave from your heart. And just because one person didn't like it doesn't mean everyone agreed with her. Let it go. Christmas is about so much more that that!
Enjoy your holiday, your family, your friends! You CAN do that!

Something About the Hustle and Bustle

Monday, December 20, 2010

There must be something about all the hustle and bustle of Christmas. I've been busy running errands and visiting people for the last couple weeks. I haven't been concentrating on eating and really have to make a point of eating.

I stopped at my mother's house today and she was trying to entice me into eating a variety of goodies. She said people had commented about how I am getting too skinny. But why doesn't the scale say anything or my pants feel baggier. Or have I been too busy to notice?

As long as you are eating the right calories for your weight and you are at a healthy weight that is all that really matters. We cant please everyone, nor should we.

Relaxing Sunday

Sunday, December 19, 2010

I'm having a nice, relaxing day spending time with family and friends. I can't say we've done much but talk, but it's just been really nice. I wish I would allow myself to have more days like this. I remember days like this when I was little. Why is it that in today's society, we don't allow ourselves more days like this?

I'm glad you had a relaxing day. You're right, most of us don't take enough time to really talk to each other anymore, just talk. Why does it only seem to happen during the holidays? At least in my family.

Your day sounds great! My daughter is arriving this afternoon from California. I suspect we'll get lots of talking done, too.

Busy on a crazy Saturday

Saturday, December 18, 2010

I realize this is the last weekend before Christmas. I also realize that the Detroit area was cheated out of a couple shopping days because of a snowstorm last Sunday. Translation: everybody will be out running errands today and most of them will probably not be in the best of moods.

I have no choice to join the chaos today. Not only do I have my own errands to run, I also have to start looking for a vehicle to replace my worn-out van. I'm going into the day with a good attitude and I'm determined to keep it all day. I'm going to do these errands with a very special person, so this should help my attitude. And I'd rather spread some cheer today and see what kind of reaction I get from the Grinches out there.

It's Great to Have People Helping You

Thursday, December 16, 2010

When your vehicle acts up, you find out who your real friends are. I am so very grateful to have some of these friends. And I realized how Spark People has helped me: I didn't turn to food for comfort - I went walking and did exercises. Learning how to journal has also helped me. Thank goodness for the "fine" things in life.
