48 Hours in the Life of a Van

Wednesday, December 15, 2010

Yesterday morning, my van's battery was dead. Today, I went to have someone change the thermostat so I would be able to have heat in it. (The high of 24 is not a good time to go without heat.) Well, the radiator kept overheating with the new thermostat. Then it overheat with the old thermostat in it. Then, it blew a head gasket. It will be towed tomorrow to see what can be done and how much it will cost.

I have no clue how I am going to get the money to fix it, let alone if it's worth fixing. The van itself has 410,000 miles on it. The motor (that DH built "so well") has 125,000 on it. My job will end withing four weeks. So, I'm sitting here with a glass of wine hoping I can get some sleep tonight. Somehow I don't think that will happen tonight, either.

I'm so sorry to hear that. Try to hang in there! After winter comes spring, and you can get through this! Just keep going! Don't give up!

So sorry about the van. Hope you can get a lift from a friend or family member until you can figure out what to do. Remember, when one door closes, another opens. It's just finding that door. emoticon

Oh Patty! Seems a lot of miles, and it all has to do with age: certain parts tend to go at the same time.
Maybe borrow a car or a ask for a lift from some workmate until the holidays. It's such bad timing to get car problems.
Breath in... Breathe out! I hope you find a solution!
I love your pusses pics.

Working on my Attitude

Tuesday, December 14, 2010

The weather is still bitter cold, the roads are still a mess, my van wouldn't start this morning...but, I was able to take my daughter's car to work. She got a ride from someone. At work, I was able to immerse myself into my work and get my mind off my van. And we all were treated to pizza, chicken and salad for lunch by a company our company buys products from. So that was nice to be able to all eat and talk together for a change. I'm seeking out the positive. The negative is trying to pull me down, but...I don't want it to!

Try to stay positive. Keep looking at all of the positives that are happening to you, the use of your daughter's car, the free lunch, the nice conversations with coworkers. These are all very positive forces. Find other positives that you may take for granted...your good health, the good health of your family members, the fact that you have a job when many others are unemployed. There are many things to be thankful for.
I have trouble keeping positive throughout my days also. I try to focus on these things myself whenever I get pulled down.
Good luck! emoticon emoticon

I Feel Like Such A Complainer

Monday, December 13, 2010

I can't get warm. I have a hard time driving because the roads are so bad. I can't walk outside because of the cold and the ice. I realize I have been talking about this for a few days now and it makes me feel like such a complainer. The Alabama winters sure had me spoiled. But, it's supposed to be warmer by the weekend. So...I'm going to do a couple exercise videos and see if that warms me up and makes me feel better mentally. I've got a knot at the end of the rope I'm hanging on to.

I complain all winter about the cold. I can certainly sympathize with you on that. I walked on the treadmill this evening after supper at a steep incline and that warmed me up nicely.
