When work drives you crazy...

Wednesday, October 06, 2010

The people in charge have had us working on a project where we're working on inventory. We've been double-doing a lot of the work because of how the assignement was started. Granted, I know the software system fairly well now, but it's stressing me out. I know I'm not a fast worker and I've been working over a little each day on my own time just to try to catch up to the others. Unrealistic deadlines and I do not get along well.

wow Kurtortoise, that was some awesome advice, I am going to use it! Patty, I am interested in seeing how you can come up with something that replaces "not the fastest worker". I know I sometimes think more negative of myself than I need to, and that is ESPECIALLY true with my weight loss struggle, so I am going to see if I can recognize that negative talk that I use on myself. Good luck!

Nowadays, every project is understaffed; all deadlines are unrealistic; and things are usually so badly pre-planned that a lot of the work has to be done over.

With that in mind, can you distance yourself from the nonsense that's going on and look at it as if it were a movie? It's not always possible, but if you can do it, you'll be less agitated by the craziness.

Can you write (in your head) the best, positive way to describe this project on your resume? You'll wind up doing a lot of re-writes, but it's good practice, and it might give you a different perspective. It has helped me survive many depressing temp jobs.

If you've got any of those neurotic managers who insist on adding "drama" to an already tense and hectic situation, you'll probably be able to second-guess whatever is going to come out of their mouths. Pre-planning some very good, professional answers to their comments can pay off in the future. I've done it, and was able to use quite a few. The answers were never something that could get me fired, but they could sting.

Find ways to describe yourself that sound more positive than "I'm not the fastest worker" because it's not good to tell someone else about something you're not. Concentrate on the good things that you are.

The bottom line is to try to survive this job while trying to find something better. That's not an easy thing to do anymore, but it's still possible.
I'm doing that now, and it's really tough, but I know I'll get something more worthwhile eventually.
Good Luck.

I'm in a slump!

Tuesday, October 05, 2010

The weather has been cold and rainy and my mood seems to be reflecting it. I haven't been sleeping all that well, I haven't walked as much as I usually do, and healthy food just seems boring. It's time to put my thinking cap on and either get a routine going or shake up what's left of the one I have. I don't want to gain any weight or get really depressed again. But I'm going to have to do a lot of thinking!

I Wasn't Successful

Sunday, October 03, 2010

I thought that I'd have so much accomplished by now, according to my blog that I wrote yesterday. My body had other plans, though. It decided it was going to take over and make me so tired that about all I got accomplished was a very long nap and going to bed early.

I guess it's going to take me awhile to get acclimated to working full time in addition to exercising, getting my cardio in, and accomplishing some of my housework. I'm finally going to get into a routine and the assignment will be over.

I just am hoping this employment agency can come through again for me or that I can get another job on my own. I've tried so hard to get this temporary one that I don't have a lot of confidence in the employment situation. But, I am working on staying positive. I have a new money goal that I have to meet ASAP and that is a great incentive!

I agree with Sparkles-today. Taking care of yourself is part of being successful. Get your rest. The housework can wait.

You needed the rest. You added a lot of activity since beginning work it is just different activity. Your body and mind will adjust. This company may be so pleased with your work ethic they may work hard to find something else for you. Good workers are hard to find even in a slow economy. You have proof on your side now. emoticon Keep positive thoughts! emoticon

Sometimes our bodies aren't in sync with our plans. It happens and while it is disappointing, it doesn't have to ruin your day. I think you are being tough on yourself. Be kind and allow yourself the time needed to get used to your new routine. Just do the best that you can do, putting one foot in front of the other.
Hang in there ! emoticon emoticon

SPARKLES-TODAY 10/3/2010 10:04AM

You need to change the title of today's blog, girl! Instead of shaming yourself with "I wasn't successful," how about, "Taking Care of Myself," or "Rest First, then Hit the Housework"? I say, with all the changes you are trying to make, you should be gentle with yourself. Try to frame your goals in small bits. Like, maybe your goal could be to make a list of the things you want to do, and then get one thing on your list done each day. AND, make the things on your list small! Instead of "clean kitchen cabinets," list the cabinets separately ("clean cabinet next to sink"; "clean cabinet over stove"; "clean cabinet over toaster" and so forth). That way, you can set yourself up to succeed by doing your big project in small pieces. You will feel more positive and have more energy if you make your plan manageable. Good luck!

Great Organizational Day

Saturday, October 02, 2010

It's a rainy, cold Saturday. For some reason, I woke up ambitious. So,it sounds like I'm going to finally get the chance to do some deep and organizatioal cleaning of my house. I will also have time to sit down and seriously work on my weekly overall schedule. I've just recently started working a temporary job, and I need to figure out how to get everything in each day that I think is important. I had started getting into the habit of setting a goal each week, and I haven't done that the last two weeks. Time to get started...

Oh I can't wait for some colder weather. It is too hot here in AZ, we are in the 100s and 90s next week. I don't feel like doing anything all summer. Colder weather is a great thing. It doesn't get as cold as yours does but it is a relief from the hot summer heat of AZ. Enjoy your day. Glad you feel the ambition that comes from a colder day. I forget by the end of summer what cold is. LOL PUT ON THAT SLOW COOKER!!
