My First Day

I made it through my first day of work. Granted, they had me just observing just to get somewhat of an idea of what was going on. There's a lot going on there and a lot that I will have to learn. But, they all seem to be a good bunch of people and impress me as being patient as far as me learning what to do.

The hours are going to be a little irregular. This is going to play havoc with my getting used to the new schedule. I'll have to figure out exactly what it will be so I can schedule my other activities around it. master schedule is still on hold this week until I get a little more settled. I am hoping I will know more by the end of the week.

I'm definitely going to have to find time to keep working on my Avon. The pay from one job alone will not cover all my bills. This reminds me that I need to take a look at my budget again and see where I can make some cuts and adjustments. This will probably have to be a weekend project - unless I can break it down and spend a little bit of time every night on it. Then again, there's other projects I know I need to be working on, too. Oh, the difficulties of getting used to yet another new schedule ~ especially since I really didn't have a set schedule for so long now!

    Glad the day wasn't as bad as you were anticipating.. I went shopping tonite and got lots of bargains and found myself thinking as I drove out of the parking lot after spending over $100, that this can't continue, I need to emoticon, m unemployment will be ending too soon...

My dh is turning 60 in June and could be applying for his Canada pension, about $333 a mth, but for some reason won't do it... would take some stress off of me........
My oldest dd turned 39 today. I must be getting old.... emoticon

Not Starting Off Well

Today is my first day at my new job. I'm a little anxious because I don't know what to expect as far as what my duties will be. I also don't know what my hours will be. I'm not sure how to judge the time it will take to get there because of rush hour traffic. Just gotta give myself a few extra minutes.

Of course, I had trouble getting up this morning. I didn't sleep all that well. Then, I had a low blood sugar attack when I got up. The cat was not happy when I accidentally stepped on her tail as I was trying to get some food in me to counter-act the episode. Luckily, the food seems to have helped. That's all I need is to have another attack my first day on the job!

I will definitely feel better when my first day is done.

    Certainly shows what stress can do to us. Hope all went well and this is a great fit for you and you can settle in and get comfortable and not have to be out there on the market looking any longer. I applied for a Gr.4/5 Teaching job last nite. It was on the highway closer to the city than the other I called the principal back about yesterday. She never did return my call... emoticon

Productive Day

I actually felt that I had a productive day yesterday. I got some things for the house that I had needed to get for a long time. I was able to throw away some worn out things when I got home and replace them with the new things. And everything was on sale.

Between my checkbook, Quicken and my bank website, I didn't balance. It took me a little while to find it, but I finally found out where the mistake was and balanced. That made me feel better. I re-did the spreadsheet I had started on my Avon expenses. This will make it so much easier to keep up with this and ready to go when I do my taxes next year. I won't have to spend so much time getting all the figures ready.

I then still had time to clean up the house a bit. With me starting a job on Tuesday, and not knowing exactly what my schedule will be, I'm glad I had the day to do these things. Who knows when I will actually have another day like this!

There is a Reason

I had been putting off making a schedule for myself all week. I gave it a lot of thought, and really believed that I would be able to put something together yesterday afternoon. Events happened yesterday that change things a lot.

First, I found out that I lost my Avon downline. Granted, the people under me were not putting forth much effort into their own business. But I did some training and asked questions and realized I could have been doing things differently, too. So, now I can choose to start over and do it to the best of my ability. This will make me a better person and make my business more successful. I will be putting this into my schedule and sticking to it. I enjoy making the extra money and meeting new people.

Second, I found out that the employment agency that I have been working with the most has set up a temp-to-hire job for me. Woo hoo! It doesn't pay as well as I would like, but it sounds like something I can easily handle. This will definitely be the biggest chunk of my schedule. But, I know that I have to use Avon to make up the money difference in order to pay all my bills.

Something else I have been seriously contemplating is going back to school. I was really leaning toward doing this before I knew about the job. Now I'm not sure if I can honestly fit it into my schedule. I've been told that one course takes about 10-15 hours a week. Can I really fit this in? I know that with my disabilities that I have, I probably would have to spend more like 12-17 hours a week on a class. I'm one that has to take a lot of notes and re-read them in order to comprehend and retain a lot of information.

So, I now have to take all this information, digest it, make some decisions, and then make my schedule. I know what I will be doing today and tomorrow!

    Will your course be paid for or will you have to take out a student loan? My dd took out a loan for her hairdressing course and she still owes $23000 to the govt. for the loan and the interest rate is at 13% - don't know if that compares with US or not, but even if she declares bankruptcy this will not be forgiven and with the baby, she can't really afford to go back to work, so she will owe this forever.

Great that you have a job... if it gets you hired, will the pay go higher? Are there benefits with it?

Still Haven't Made a Master Schedule

I blogged on Tuesday about making a new schedule. I spent most of the day yesterday tying up some lose ends and organizing a couple things that needed to be done before I could really sit down and make this schedule. So, it's something that I am penciling in to start on this evening.

I've got a 10 am meeting with a local Outreach Program that I anxious to attend. I want to see what they are all about and if there is something they offer that can help me.

I have a 1 pm appointment to (hopefully) sign up a new Avon representative. I've never done this on my own. So, I watched a video on it on the Avon website and I asked my District Manager to meet with us and help a little. This is something I really want to get comfortable with. By having a certain number of representatives selling under me, it helps because I can earn a percentage of what they make. One way to make more money and to make life easier for me.

Avon is one of my stumbling blocks as far as setting up a master schedule for myself. I need to figure out how much time I need/want to spend on it and decide at what times I want to do this. A little more training may help me get motivated and judge how much time I want to spend on this.

Another stumbling block is my desire to go back to school. I feel that it will help sharpen the job skills I need to get a job that I enjoy and that will pay well. I've been talking to one school in particular this past week. It's taken some time to get my ducks in a row to see if this is do-able. So, I need to figure out how much time this will take each day to make it successful.

These are the main reasons I know I need to work on a schedule IN PENCIL. I know I will have to adjust a few things as I get new customers, go to meetings that pop up and have big assignments that have due dates. I am looking forward to the challenge.
