Mother Nature Has Finally Struck

Saturday, February 11, 2012

At the beginning of the week, the weathermen were predicting 1/2" to an inch of snow for Friday night followed by an extremely cold Saturday. I thought, okay, I can deal with a little cold and planned on running errands this morning.

When I went to bed, there was a light coating of snow on the grassy areas. I woke up to find that 4" fell. And not only is it cold, but the wind chill makes the temperature feel like around zero. So much for running errands this morning! It may get a little better this afternoon, but not much.

I guess I really shouldn't complain. This is the biggest snowfall we've had here in Detroit all winter, which is very unusual for us. I just shifted gears and started on some of the house work and paper work that I needed to do. I'll just have to run my errands another time.

We've had winter this past week as well, at least temperature wise, -30C with the windchill at nite...but still no snow....not complaining though.

I just hope it holds off while I go down to Halifax, we're planning to go to PEI too, don't need snow and bad roads for that..

I'm sure the errands will be waiting for you, don't fret....stay inside and be warm! emoticon

We here in Manitoba have some snow, nothing like we had last year this year, there are places that we can still see grass. Now let's talk temperature - 25 wind chill of - 37
Snow vs cold temperature, I think I would chose the snow.....

Full Moon and Bad News Don't Mix

Wednesday, February 08, 2012

There was a full moon last night. Everyone who works with the public will tell you that people act differently for about three days when there is a full moon. Seriously - pay attention the next full moon.

The company that I am temporarily working for received some not so good news the day before yesterday. The phones were absolutely crazy yesterday. They rang off the hook. People wanted to wait on hold rather than leave a message for the workers. Many times during the day I had four to five lines holding for someone.

I was eager to get out of the office at lunch just to clear my head a little. I went to a couple close stores and walked around window shopping. It did a little bit of good, but not as much as I had hoped. I was very glad to go home for the night. I didn't feel like talking to anyone once home or doing much of anything. I did make myself do a couple quiet things that I knew I needed to get done. That seemed to help calm me a bit.

Today is a new day. I expect the phones to be a little bit busier than normal today. But I'm really hoping things will be better than yesterday. It helps to know that I really don't have to deal with the callers - just pass them on. And I know my time is limited - that helps to keep me going.

The full moon is on it's wane. Always watch out 3 days prior to the full moon. This is when all the action starts.

Checking A List I Made

Monday, February 06, 2012

One day last week at work, I made a list of things that I knew I wanted to get done in the next couple weeks or so. I looked at it yesterday and realized that I had gotten quite a few of the items done. I surprised myself. Maybe the new schedule is doing some good for me! I'm going to update the list today and review it again on Sunday. I'm anxious to see if there really is a connection. If there is, this will definitely mean that I need to try to stick with a schedule like this when my assignment is over. Just shift the answering of phones to putting time into Avon and finding other work. I've been wanting to improve the scheduling of my time for so long now. I didn't think that a temporary job would help so much.

I got a call from a head hunter today and filled in a PreAssessmentForm tonite and emailed it back to them... I also returned 2 other calls. The one above was just a number on the phone and I called and asked why they called? Do you think that qualifies for a follow-up call?

And I also zeroed in a letter to the group home that interviewed me last month, and wouldn't you know it - they called me for another interview today? She doesn't realize I don't think but dd said to wait and get there before I say anything about it... I also had my meeting with FP this a.m. and he told me he sent my resume on to his brother...and took g.son to school cuz he missed the bus. Then dd and baby and I walked outside for a whole hour today... Now, if I hadn't eaten chocolate and nuts the rest of the day, it might have been ok.

BTW, are you keeping your To Do Lists in one book, so you can look back and see how much you do actually accomplish... I think it would be a real eye-opener....I've always thought of doing that for myself, and never got around to it either.

Glad you're feeling better about your schedule and your accomplishments....

P.s. - did you read my blog and see where I am going next week??

Congratulations! Isn't it fanastic how not looking at something constantly can sometimes help more than looking for it all the time?

It's such a great feeling of accomplishment to cross things off your TO DO list. Great job !!!!

Sunday's Here

Sunday, February 05, 2012

I started thinking yesterday about all the things that I should get done today as I may not have the time or the energy to get them done during the week. But then I started thinking about last Sunday and how I had a "me" day. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I realize that I need to have some down time scheduled into my week. So, I will spend some very limited time doing a couple of my to do projects. I will then spend the rest of the day doing "me" projects.

I'm hoping that I will be more used to my schedule this week. Maybe I won't be so tired after work and be able to do some things after work each day. I'm still thinking about what kind of project I can do during work or at lunch that will free up some after work time. I'm sure I will think of something by the end of the day. One thing I'm tossing around is bringing my computer and practicing my typing on my lunch hour. (I don't have access to the company's computer and answering the phones doesn't go well with typing practice.) I also know that if the weather is nice a walk outside will be in order ~ I enjoyed my walks outside last week.

I'm still in that multi-tasking mode. I've been in that mode for so long - at least since I've had my daughters - that's is difficult for me to relax and take time for myself. But a goal of mine this year is to take more time for me and I am slowly working on doing just that.

First Week Down

Saturday, February 04, 2012

I have made it through my first full week of work in over a year. It was definitely a challenge, but I think I was getting a little better by the end of the week. I was able to do some of my paperwork during the day in between phone calls (discretely, of course). This really helped as I had been putting it off for awhile. The person I report to mentioned that she had heard some feedback yesterday. It was that I tend to be too quiet. I realize this, but will definitely work on voice projection next week. I'm not sure what I will bring next week to work on between phone calls next week. I hate just sitting there; it makes the day go by so much more slowly and it's hard to stay focused.

I did have a job interview yesterday after work for a part time cashier position at a Lowe's that's literally one mile from my house. I know that I was one of three that interviewed. I made sure that I mentioned that I worked as a cashier at the auto show ~ I know it wasn't listed on my job application as I filled it out in December. I don't really know how I did. It was one of those "Tell me about a time..." interviews. But I know I did my best. I will find out something by the end of the week.

Today and tomorrow will be spent doing things that I was too tired to do during the week. I've got my laundry going and need to start working on other projects. As I was definitely tired after work each day, and had some meetings to attend during the week, it will probably take most of the weekend to do what I want to do. I will not stress if things don't get done. I felt a little better energy-wise by Friday and know that next week should be easier as far as being able to do things after work. (I'm hoping....!!!)

Oh Yeah! You know they always say it's easier to find a job when you have one already... so let's hope..... only a mile from home too... I got quite spoiled when I was working, that although it was in isolation, they provided housing within walking distance...

Glad you completed a whole week and got some "not negative" feedback too.
Rest up and be ready to really show them next week.... Sodouko puzzles for the down times.... emoticon emoticon

So great that you found work and are still interviewing! I am sure that something nice will come your way if you continue working on it like you already do! Have a great weekend at home! You could do some squads, calf raises, and wall pushups between the calls if your chef doesn't mind it. It would keep you awake!
