Reminder Lesson

I had a harsh reality reminder lesson yesterday. I had to take some tests for another employment agency and didn't do as well as I would have liked to. I learned all (or most) of this in all my years of schooling. But, between my time recuperating from my back surgeries and the time spent on other jobs and things where I didn't use what I had learned, I have successfully forgotten where in my brain that I had stored the information I had learned.

Lesson reminder: use it or lose it. Lesson reinforced: I need to spend more time each week re-learning and reinforcing what I have learned. I'm already taking a little time each day typing and practicing my 10 key. I need to step up to the plate and reinvest in myself. This, I believe, will have a two-fold purpose. I will slowly get more confidence in myself and my abilities. I will take this confidence with my in my job search journey.

So, a goal for the new year has presented itself to me. Just as I made time every day to do some type of physical activity, I can make time to invest in my mental health and growth. Onward and upward!

Early Start

I had a fitful night's sleep last night. I don't know if my mind was just on overdrive or if it was just one of those nights. So, I got up early, accomplished a few things, and am getting ready to put the final coat of paint on the bedroom closet. Maybe this means I can put the things back in the closet by tonight. I painted the rest of the room last spring and it will feel good to finally be completely done with it. This will make the second room in the condo that I have repainted and organized. It's a goal of mine to completely repaint and organize the condo this spring. Now, what room shall I start on next?

    Good for you Patty....I too had a miserable sleep, but I didn't get up and do anything useful, just dozed and woke and dozed and woke and never felt like I was rested...What color did you paint the closet?

The Good, The Bad and The Reality

The good is that I started doing a couple things on my goal list yesterday. I took time to meditate and pray. I also took time to practice my typing and 10 key again. The bad is that I could tell that it had been at least a month since I had practiced the typing and 10 key; my speed had fallen off on both. It was a more than gentle reminder to make sure I do these things at least four times a week if I am to keep up/get better. And the meditating/praying did relax me. It will be good for me to do this every day.

The reality: I have found that I have a lot lined up for the next few weeks and will be very busy again/still. I was really hoping that must do activities would be at a more comfortable level for me this year. But, things came up that I can't pass up and there are other things that I don't want to pass up. So, I will deal with the business. And I will meditate/pray every day to get that little bit of needed relaxation.

The next few weeks should be very interesting and I'm looking forward to seeing how well I deal with them. It's almost an obsession with me to get some kind of schedule into my life. But life has yet to cooperate with me. So, let's see where it takes me.

    Prayer and meditation probably mean more than my quickly uttered prayer of Thanksgiving today when I didn't run into those 2 deer, it was very close..

    I am.all about scheduling too. Just wait til my semester starts! Lol Good job on starting your goals! I know you'll stay focused and not allow craziness to slow you down. :-)

Habits are Hard to Start

I ended the old year with grand ideas on how I wanted to improve myself this year. I have started doing a couple things, but there are a few things that I haven't gotten to yet that I really want to incorporate into each day. I vow to continue to take baby steps, finish the projects I have started, and continue to add something on my goal list as I can. By the end of the month, I will be more in the habit of doing these things. I think it is time to take a suggestion I read and make myself a calendar/chart. Then I can list the things I want to become habits and check them off as I do them. If I miss a day, I can start over the next day. The saying that it take 21 days for something to become habit keeps running through my head. Some of the things that I want to do were once habits, and knowing that has me aggravated with myself for getting out of those habits. But, I will get there.

    Relax Patty and don't beat yourself up.. you needed to take that time off and have a wonderful visit with you dd... It will take you a little bit to get back on track, but remember the good time you had and that was a great reason for getting off track.

I got a call for a teacher job interview tomorrow - 260 km. away.... and I had that interview today for a Group HOme Worker. Never rains but it pours... Hope it pours real soon for you too. emoticon

    Liked your post. I find that I need to write something down and refer back to it often. I love lists, and I would be lost without the reminders. I'm going to take a tip from you and add goal items to my to-do lists. Should be a big help!

New Year's Progress

I'm slowly working on my goals for the new year.
1. So far, I am more flexible in the scheduling of my days. Last year, I would make a long to do list every day and be disappointed when I didn't finish everything.
2. I am spending more time with people that mean a lot to me, helping them when I can.
3. I've written a couple notes to people that are important to me but are far away. There's definitely more that I need to write to, but I've started.

There are a few things that I haven't started on yet or spent much time on. I need to get started.
1. I want to spend some time every day doing something to improve my skills in some area.
2. I need to somehow get more creative in making money/finding a job. This one's a hard one and I will take any suggestions I can get.

So, I've made small changes and know in what direction I need to go. It's already the 4th and time to kick it up a notch.
