1/30/11 - SP Newsletter - "'The doors we open and close each day decide the lives we live.' -- Flora Whittemore, Author
There are natural consequences that accompany every choice we make in life. Some opportunities inevitably pass us by, but we can take advantage of others. Many people feel powerless, but this is rarely the case--some opportunities just require a little thinking outside the box. Today, reflect on the doors you are opening in your world and which ones are closing. You have the power to create the life you want if you are willing to set goals and take steps toward them. Rarely does fulfilling our hopes and dreams happen overnight, but you can take one tiny move towards them each day."
Patty267's comments: This quote is SO profound. The importance of making right choices is something, for the most part, I KNOW in my spirit and try to live out in my life daily. But for those times when I get caught up in busyness of life and forget, I need to be reminded. And that's where the SP team and you, the SP community, have been so helpful! And this has been one of those days that I've had to rely so heavily on your support and encouragement. And by the grace of God, I've crossed paths with either the right blog, or article, or personal encouragement that I needed from a SP friend just when I needed it. Jeremiah 11:29 is such a great reminder to me that there's a plan, designed by the Master Designer, Himself, that's working on my behalf. If that's the case, how can I NOT come out a winner! I also love Psalm 139 is also a favorite reminder that God is in the middle of it all and HAS from the very beginning. If that be so, then why would He abandon me in my hour of need? The fact is, He WOULDN'T!
My problem is poor planning, not preparing meals ahead of time, and fast food as an easy way out. I'm not a big eater, prefer to graze throughout the day, nor do I battle with food cravings. For me it all comes down to "convenience." By the time I work a full day and visit my husband in the nursing home, I just don't have energy to grocery shop, so I opt for a drive-thru someplace (and, at that point, most anyone will do). However, since joining SP, I'm more aware of what I eat and take steps to avoid making choices at the end of the day when I'm tired. I, also, carry a little something in my purse for when my blood sugar drops, until I can get home and eat FAST the FOOD I have prepared ahead of time, which is keeping me out of the FAST FOOD lines. I'm not, yet, completely there, but I'm making progress and realize it takes time to change old habits.
SP is so wonderful in helping us deal, not only with the numbers on the scale, but the emotional baggage we all carry. Thank you SP for providing ways to make permanent changes that gives hope to move forward and regain the ground we've lost, and lost, and lost through the years and to hold that ground once we get there! Blessings to you ALL in the choices you make on your own personal journey.

There's a song from the movie, The King and I, that goes like this: "Getting to know you ... Getting to know all about you. Getting to like you ... Hoping that you'll like me too."

-Getting to my weight loss goals (and, hopefully, not regressing back to old habits)
