Is it just my mood?

Saturday, April 11, 2009

I'm feeling pretty discouraged this morning. In the past two weeks my weight has gone up 5 pounds. The problem is, I don't know why. I haven't done anything differently to cause this gain. In fact, I've been watching more closely this past week because of the weight gain from the week before; only to gain a couple more pounds.

I'm about ready to give up but I know it's not an option. I've been doing this way to long to do that. I'm discouraged because I wanted to lose weight before my trip the end of the month instead I'm gaining. I have less than three weeks now. I know me well, if I don't at least lose the 5 pounds, I'll feel miserable. My clothes will be tight. 5 pounds makes a huge difference.

So, will I grab some determination and get right back on track or will I just slowly give up?

Patti - those of us who are in peri-menopausal hell right now feel your pain. It almost seems that our bodies become traitors and nothing we do helps. The culprit...Estrogen, which we really need but chooses to act naughty with our bodies! HOWEVER....here's the good part. You are too disciplined to give up and too motivated to give up. You have been doing this a long time and just think how NOT overweight you truly are! If I can suggest something, I would not go on the scale for awhile, keep walking your beautiful dogs and doing your exercise, drink your water as you do, eat small, healthy meals throughout the day and indulge in a glass of wine or small piece of chocolate every once in awhile without feeling guilt but tasting it and enjoying it - if it gives you pleasure. Life is too short and too beautiful for you to be down. 5 pounds can be much more a mental setback than physical. Love, Kris emoticon

    Dear Patti,

This too, shall pass, and giving up is not an option because I will not let you. I am not sure what is going on with your body and I am sure it is very frustrating. After Christmas, I seemed to be at a stand still for a while. I think it was because I was not able to exercise because of my back and I was also feeling sorry for myself. One of the ladies at WW, who cannot exercise, asked me if I was using my journal. No, I had not been using my journal. She told me to start recording everything. She was right and I have been losing ever since. It's just that in the past, when I was exercising, I did not need to be so specific with what I was eating, but now I have to. I use the nutrition tracker here on Spark instead of points as I have done both and they are comparable.

About your trip: I have tried in the past to lose weight for a specific event and it seems to totally backfire on me every time. I want you to enjoy this trip, Patti, because you so deserve it. Make up your mind to have a great time and do whatever you need to do to make that happen, even if you have to purchase some clothing that you are more comfortable in. We will always have the challenge of trying to achieve or maintain a healthy weight, we will not always have the opportunity to vacation.

When we get "negative feedback" from the scale, we feel so bloggy and then discouraged, and then we head back in to old bad habits.
If you are absolutely committed to make this your last losing experience, then start re-reading the SP diet program, drop salt, drink ALL of that 2 qts of water a day, and start moving in ten minute segments -- ten minutes of walking in place bringing your knees up high right now will kill your appetite and the water drinking will keep you busy. It is great that you asked for our help, b/c it is here for you!! One minute at a time, one good choice over losing faith in yourself!

I say grab some determination and get right back on track. I know my weights fluctuates 4-5 lbs some days - it makes me cray.

emoticon Here's to a new day and a weight change on that scale!!!!!
