A Challenging Meal

Tuesday, November 17, 2009

Tonight should be interesting!!! We are having dinner with friends at one of the best restaurants in our area. By Best, I don't mean high-priced or fancy.......I mean the Best food no matter what you order. I haven't been there in awhile and am hoping that they have light meals or half servings. I wish that more restaurants would have HALF-SERVINGS on their menus. They are ideal for smaller appetites or for those trying to cut down on portion sizes. Thanks to SP, I now know what to look for to stay within my calorie and healthy choice limits.

I try to just eat half and take the rest home for tomorrow's lunch. Or I order something I know won't hurt me too bad.

My Husband Loves SP

Monday, November 16, 2009

I have returned to the kitchen!!!!! This might not be something that I should admit to, but I taught Foods and Nutrition Classes for years and have to be honest with you. I loved to teach the classes, but, I don't really enjoy cooking!!! In the last 3 weeks, I have tried around 12 SP recipes and loved most of them. I love finding some of the not-so-common ingredients in the store, and I love it when my husband likes the end-product. I also love the lower calorie content and the fact that I am feeling better after eating a much healthier meal. My husband says that the only bad thing is that he can't hide my Christmas Presents in the oven anymore!!!!!

Diet Dog

Sunday, November 15, 2009

Are any of you dog lovers? We have always had some kind of pet. We started with chameleons, had several types of birds, many cats, raised West Highland White Terriers for several years, and currently have an Australian Terrier and a Cairn Terrier. I call our Cairn Terrier my Diet Dog because we can NEVER go for a walk (it is always a run; of sorts). He is also good for lowering my blood pressure, because if I am stressed about anything, he seems to sense it and crawls up on my lap as if to say, "Just pet me, and you will feel better," and I do. And last of all, (and not best) is that he is very curious. I made a dessert for company, had it on the dining room table, (way too close to the edge) and he ran into the house at full speed (my husband was sighting in his rifle and Mik hates the sound of gun shots) smelled the dessert and put on the brakes (too late) hit the table and the dessert crashed to the floor. He knew I didn't really need that dessert!!! It is said that people with pets are usually healthier........Now I know why!!!

I have a dog,and she keeps me active, she is not a terrier but I grew up with them, and they are always on the go, they are also very intelligent, one of ours had a cat as a companion or I should say partner in crime, she jumped on the counter and stole a roast that my Mother had taken out for dinner, cant remember what we had for dinner, but it was not roast beef.the dog and cat on the other hand , dined very well. No matter , they are a joy.

Back-Up

Saturday, November 14, 2009

When I moved back to my home-town, my son was 5 months old. I knew that I would try to find a teaching job (part-time) because I love to teach and needed to bring in a second income. I also knew that I needed to find other mothers with children near my son's age to not only provide buddies for him, but to find other women in the same boat I was in to bounce ideas off of that included everything from child-related topics to women's issues. It was one of the smartest ideas ever!!!!! What a wonderful support-system. I don't think I have ever felt so balanced in my life. I think that is what makes SparkPeople so successful. We need each other to get through the tuffer times and to answer our questions and give us the support we need. Thank you.......I will keep coming back.

Do You Have a Knee-Replacement (or two)?

Friday, November 13, 2009

It will be 2 years in March since I had my right knee replaced. I was very fortunate to have an excellent doctor who did the replacement by using a computer which made the replacement as close to the position, size, etc. of my "Old" knee as possible. I had tons of osteoarthritis in my knee which was so painful, that the surgery itself seemed like a piece-of-cake. The first time I stood after my surgery, I wanted to do a cartwheel, because the pain was GONE!!!!! There was NEVER a light at the end of the tunnel with the OA pain. There was one at the end of the physical therapy and healing of the surgery. I do fine working out on the treadmill and stationary bike. I purchased an exercise ball and am thinking of trying some floor exercises. My question is for you who have had knee surgery. Have you used the exercise ball and is there any danger of turning the knee incorrectly or losing balance. Is the ball pretty stable or does it roll out from under you easily? I don't get on my knees often as it is uncomfortable. I know this will limit me somewhat with floor exercises. Any suggestions????? I welcome them and thank you in advance.
