THE HARDEST YEARS IN LIFE ARE THOSE BETWEEN TEN AND SEVENTY.
~Helen Hayes (at 73)~
What years do you feel were the most challenging to you and why?

If I survive my children's teenage years, I'll probably vote for those years.

I think the hardest years for me were when my mother was sick. She needed care, I had 3 children to care for and a husband and a full time teaching job. It was difficult to balance all those things. Know now there are things I would do differently but did my best at the time.
When I look back at that time, right now life is simple!

Always the present. When I think of the past, they fade in importance. When I think of the future, it seems too uncertain.

Old Friends

Thursday, March 11, 2010

I loved the Healthy Reflections message today. "The Best Antique Is An Old Friend." We all have friends who have been with us for many years. Obviously they are real friends, or they wouldn't still be here. Different friends bring different qualities to our life and bring different qualities out of us. Take a few minutes and make a list of your closest friends and WHY they are close to you. Then contact each one of them and tell them why they are important to you. You will be glad you did.

Who are you calling an antique, hope it is ME?! Some friends you are able to share anything with, they just make you feel better. Some friends even buy wigs with you!
Hope you are feeling better after your hot tea and honey.

Many friends that have been around 35 years or more. Thanks for reminding me I need to get in touch with them and tell them I love them.

Thanks Dad

Wednesday, March 10, 2010

The last Christmas with my Dad, he gave me a Daily Blessings book which sits on my dresser to this day. It is timeless and each day you display a new verse or daily living quote. I haven't been feeling the best the past couple of weeks and it has started to depress my usually upbeat self. This morning when I turned the page for today, the quote was: What you will do matters. All you need to do is do it. ~Judy Grahn~
How appropriate that was to me!!!!!! I need to feel better and keep DOING!!!

Your dad has always been a guide for you, so glad he still is.
I am sad to hear you still aren't feeling up to par, maybe you need a day out with a friend!

You are still learning from dad as he sends you a message each day. That was a wonderful gift that will keep on giving each year.

Unwanted Hair

"I refuse to think of them as chin hair. I think of them as stray eyebrows."

Thank you for the great laugh!

"Getting old is not for sissies" was phrased by someone before me, but it sure is the truth!

I have stray eyebrows on my chin too and some of them are like pulling steel wire! Sheesh!

I am thankful I am not a man, they can get bushy hair out their noses and ears while all the hair on top of their heads disappears. I am sure that is hard to accept.

If I had to lose hair, why can't it be from my legs and underarms? If I have to grow more hair somewhere, why can't it be on top of my head or longer, thicker eyelashes?

What kind of hereditary function does more chin hair and less head hair do for the survival of humankind? Who is in charge of this hair issue? Obviously someone with a warped sense of humor!

I guess it keeps us humble!

I was in the van and had the mirror on the sun visor down. In the bright sunlight I saw one about an inch and a half long! The worst part of getting old is having them and not being able to see them. I promptly went into the house when I got home and found a magnifying mirror and plucked it off. It is too bad that beauty salons don't do chin hair. I can't see them any more! Mat 10:30 But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. I suppose that includes nostril hair, hair in ears and chin hair and moustaches on women and men as we age, lol.

Once in a while it is fun to let that "younger" person come out to play. They may move a little slower but sure like to have a little fun. Hope everyone gives that a try, just not too often or you may be committed to a padded room somewhere, HaHa.
