A Perfect Day!!!

Sunday, August 14, 2011

This summer has been very hot and humid for most of our country. It hasn't really been much fun to be outside and difficult to enjoy outside activities. I live in South Central Wisconsin and this past week has been absolutely perfect weather-wise. We have had temperatures in the mid to high 70s and very low humidity. I have had a difficult time staying inside!!!!! Today we went to an Art Fair held at a town about 18 miles away. The Fair was located on a beautiful lake and there was a cool breeze all day. It was perfect!!! There was a good-sized crowd, but not so big that we couldn't take our time in the booths and had plenty of space to walk around in. I purposely didn't eat breakfast, so that I could save calories for the great food stands. I had fresh sweet corn, large slices of watermelon, fresh tomatoes, and lean hamburgers. I also walked for close to 3 hours. All in all, when I entered my calories, I came out very well. Today is what summer should be like.........people outside enjoying the beautiful weather and eating the fresh produce that is so plentiful right now. I enjoyed every minute of it.

Sounds like a great day. I was outside most of the day too--walked to church, family reunion picnic in the park, & pulled weeds for 2+ hours. It was a GREAT outside day.

THE HELP: A Must-Read and/or A Must-See

Saturday, August 13, 2011

I read the book, THE HELP, when it first came out and knew that it would make a great movie. Last night, we went to see the movie and I wasn't disappointed. It followed the story exactly and the cast was excellent. After the movie, I was in the restroom and entered into a conversation with 4 other women (all strangers) re: how much we had enjoyed both the book and the movie and we all decided that we wanted to re-read the book. Now I have to try to remember who I gave my book to. I lent it to several people, but it seems like the last person I gave it to, I literally "gave it to her." Now I need to borrow it from her.
I highly recommend reading this book and then I highly recommend seeing the movie. You won't be sorry. Oh...........and don't forget to bring kleenex because you will laugh till you cry and then you will cry in some spots. And if you want someone to go with you........I would love to see it again.

It was an awesome book - one of my favorite reads and like you, we saw the movie this past week and was not disappointed. What a great show!

Another great book for you to read if you haven't already read it is - The Hidden Garden by Kate Morton. Awesome read!

Glad I saw your post this morning. Hugs, Sunny

I also read the book when it first came out. I even sent an email to author and she sent me a note back. I grew up in the south and the book is very accurate

It was a great movie, and yes, follows the book. Even some lines verbatim. I wish I could send you my copy! emoticon

Absolutely agree - loved the book, loved the movie! The entire cast was amazing! And I cried my heart out - definitely take tissues.

Yes, I think I'll have to see this one again.

Cheers!

I totally agree with you! I also read the book and seen the movie. The movie definitely follows the book, with a few things from the book omitted, of course, but, very true to form none the less. Definitely read the book and go see the movie, you won't be disappointed!

Grandparents..........Creating Bonds

Friday, August 12, 2011

The grandparent/grandchild relationship is second only to the parent/child connection in a child's emotional growth. Kids develop appreciation for family legacy and learn healthy views of aging by interacting with grandparents.

Here are tips to keep the grandparent connection strong for children:

* Check yourself---Your relationship with your parents sets the tone for the connection your children make with their grandparents.

* Communicate---Have a family meeting to discuss the role you want your parents to play in the lives of your children. Many grandparents are fearful of "intruding." Let grandparents know what they can do to make your parenting role easier.

* Connect weekly---Make it a priority to communicate with grandparents at least once per week. Make sure grandparents hear what the grandkids are interested in and acknowledge their accomplishments.

* Share history---Grandparents are a great connection to the past for children. Encourage them to share their history with your kids; no one else can take those family stories into the future.

* Show appreciation---When grandparents do something special with the kids, make sure they get a note of appreciation.

Okay, here is a very old joke. Put your index finger vertically between your lips. Now hum, then move the finger up and down quickly. That is what would happen on a sliding board if we were "cracked" horizontally instead of vertically. God knew what He was doing.

My Shorts Fell Off!!!!!

Wednesday, August 10, 2011

At the very beginning of this summer, I put on a pair of shorts that I bought at the end of last summer. When I purchased them, they were a bit tight, but I wanted to lose more weight, so I bought them anyway. Well, being a Senior and having more than my share of Senior Moments, I forgot about them. Yesterday, I was going through my storage bin of summer clothes, and there they were. I put them on..............and they fell off!!!!! I have to take them in!!!!!!! Yaaaaaaaaaaaaay!!!!!!!
