My Daughter's Post on Facebook in Response to Dave's Auto Accident

Saturday, July 12, 2014

This week has given me the opportunity to focus on how blessed we are. Not
everyone wakes up planning to go to work and take care of the family, ends up
with a surprise vacation and people volunteering to take care of their every
need including but not limited to childcare (complete with the kids doing all
their chores and any other task those children are capable of achieving),
grocery shopping, meals, and the boss saying don't worry about things here - you
just focus on getting the rest you need and we will take care of everything
until you can return. When I thanked one of the people for helping she responded
that I do so much for her (I tried to figure out what I do for her but can't
think of anything special). Ironically, I had been thinking earlier that day how
much I appreciate what everyone is doing for us and thought wow I should try to
these things for others when life throws them a curve ball. So when I prayed the
joyful mysteries, I used the distractions of this week to focus my prayer and
make it more meaningful. As I thought about the visitation, I was concentrating
on all the "Mary's" who have come to help "Elizabeth" thanking God for putting
them in our life and asking Him to continue to bless each and everyone of them.
Many people have asked me to let them know what they can do for us, other than
continue to pray I am at a loss for what we might need. The more I thought about
it the more I realized I want everyone to appreciate what you have. OK so we are
not somewhere most people would choose for a vacation but at least we are
together and tonight I am blessed with dinner music (Dave's snoring never
sounded so good). Let the people in your life know you love and appreciate them,
you don't know if it might be your last chance. I am thankful I got a second
chance. If you have read this far, know that you are one of the people I am
thankful to have in my life and whether you realize it or not you make a
difference (this includes all of you who I have not had the pleasure of
personally meeting but have prayed for us because you know someone we know or
are part of one of the many prayers chains we are blessed to have praying for
us.) Thanks

Update on Dave

Friday, July 11, 2014

Thanks for all the prayers for Dave and the family.
The challenges with pain continue and he is having
more x-rays to evaluate this. His spirits are good.
He is getting OT and PT. The cervical collar was
removed today and neurologically he is intact.

His wife, Peggy, is thanking God that she is not
a widow. They have 3 children.

Son-in-law life flighted

Thursday, July 10, 2014

My son-in-law, David Fitch, was in a serious auto accident
yesterday. You can see the car pictures that were in the news.
He was life-flighted to the trauma center. He got out of
surgery at 10:30 PM last night. He is stable, but in a lot
of pain.

I hope everyone had a blessed and happy Easter.
I am going to be taking a hiatus from SP for an undermined length of time.
I will check my spark mail from time-to-time, if you want to stay in contact with me.
I appreciate all the friendships I have formed.
I am fine - life just doesn't have enough hours.

Hope you are doing well. I am back at least for the time being. Had a friend, Carol, (70), is in Johns Hopkins now with a broken hip and she has had diabetes for years. She broke the hip in her home. They are not sure how she did it. But when taken to our local hospital before being transported to Johns Hopkins, she was in the progress of having a heart attack.

Her blood sugar is out of wack. Doctors are still debating whether or not to do surgery as she is very high risk due to heart issues, which is understandable.

As a result, I wanted to know more about Prediabetes and diabetes so I purchased the "Prediabetes for Dummies" book and my daughter who is now a Doctor of Nursing Practice lent me one "Diabestity". I finished reading the Dummies book and am about half-way through the Diabestity one. I learned many things. Very interesting how complicated the body is and if it doesn't work like clock work, how much trouble and ill health one can suffer because of it.

Me, been busy. The lichen planus has subsided for the most part. Of course daughter finally had her baby boy on Christmas Day last year. Her hubby finally arrived home in April after being deployed for the most part of her pregnancy. They just recently purchased a home in Virginia Beach where he is stationed, and moved in a couple of weeks ago.

Younger daughter is very busy. Working for M.A.C. makeup at their store in a mall near Baltimore where she is living now. Plus she is bartending in the same area and taking online college classes to earn her business degree.

I see older daughter more often than younger, although she is much further away. But I still keep in contact with younger daughter by way of text messages & very short conversations.

I am back on track with eating healthy again and walking and using the aid of a pedometer as well as a health care advocate from my insurance company. They have been great. They help me by way of phone calls but they do not take the place of my doctor.

So I am definitely doing more walking and using a pedometer, and when I can, go swim at the "Y". I used their indoor track this morning while reading a book. Weren't but a couple of people using the track. One for walking, one for jogging, and one for running. At least I know that I can do this indoors where it's air conditioned. At other times I go to the mall and do several loops there as well.

The weight is slowly coming off and I am doing well. Things have finally settled down 14 months after hubby's passing. I still have several things to do, but nothing like it was this past year.

I have to go now but trust that you are doing well.

Take care! emoticon emoticon

I've felt the same way -- overwhelmed with all that's happening in my life, with barely any wiggle room. Things like SP and Facebook can be real time-suckers and sometimes you just have to step back a bit.

That said, I hope your hiatus isn't too long. You'll be missed. Enjoy your "me-time!"
