Weekend wrap up

Monday, August 23, 2010

So it's Monday morning and time to reflect on what the weekend held. Friday nights girls night out was fun. I overate a little bit. The movie was mediocre, Eat, Pray, Love. It was based in foreign countries with accents that were difficult to understand. Saturday morning was breakfast at the Cracker Barrel in Johnson City, Tn and then on to Damascus, Virginia fr a bike ride along the Creeper Trail. It's a 34 mile trail that runs along an old train route. We rode 17 miles as we hadn't been biking in some years. I chose an old fashioned foot brake bike instead of the hand brake bike. The route was downhill with a few level spaces so I had to use the brake a lot. Boy was my leg tried when we got through. We had lunch at the Dairy King, great hamburger for the BH and a grilled chicken salad for me. I was good!! Then Saturday afternoon was freezing corn. Sunday morning was canning tomatoes and then company for dinner. So, all in all it was a great weekend. I weighed this morning and had gained 1/2 lb so I figure that's pretty good for the splurging I did. So, hang in there Sparkers. It's a goal to lose 1 lb by Friday. Think I can do it.

Wow, busy weekend! Thanks for your take on the movie. I was thinking about going to it. I think I'll stick with my old favorite "Under the Tuscan Sun". Have a great week!

Wow, you had a little bit of everything in your weekend -- the best kind. I haven't ridden a bike in over 20 years but have recently been thinking that I'd like to get an older bike (wide seat and foot brakes) for riding through the city. just like I did when I was a kid. Thanks for the comment on the movie. My youngest son bought me the book for Christmas and while I tried to read it, I just didn't like it. It seemed to whiney for me. I thought the movie would be a good alternative, but I don't like it when I have to strain to try to understand what people are saying, so I think I'll at least wait until I can rent it rather than go to the theatre.

Have a great Monday!

Must cheer up

Friday, August 20, 2010

I'm a little down this morning. Not sure why. We have a "girls night out" tonight so maybe that will put me in a better mood. I've already figured out what I will eat today, all three meals. I will remain in my calorie range so that will make me happier. We all have days like I'm having at some times. We plan on doing a bike ride tomorrow so I will get some exercise this weekend. All in all I am looking forward to a better mood and outlook. Hope my fellow Sparkers have a good weekend. Remember to do something fun.

I get like that from time to time. It's a good idea to just muddle on through; it will pass. Hope you have a great weekend. Take care and be safe. Enjoy girls night out! emoticon

I had that out of sorts feeling last week. I always like turning on the oldies station, and it isn't long before the feet start moving.

I have heard it from several people lately. With me I think it is the end of summer nearing. Even though I love fall, I hate winter.

Don't forget the song, Don't worry, be Happy emoticon

Hope your mood is improving as your day progresses. If not, here's a tip: turn on the radio to a station that plays easy listening music -- the slow, calm stuff. Gradually, as your mood improves, switch to more upbeat music. You'll be happy and singing (and dancing?) in no time flat. It works for me . . .

Making mistakes

Thursday, August 19, 2010

Must learn to accept the fact that mistakes happen. Correct them if you can and move on.

This is so right. If anyone claims they don't make mistakes, the red flag immediately goes up in my brain. The main thing is we learn from them and are careful not to make the same one again.

LOVE_2_LAUGH 8/19/2010 12:59PM

Absolutely. When I was interviewing for a big promotion several years back, one of the questions asked was what was one mistake I had made in the current position I was in, and how did I correct/handle it. My answer: I can't remember one mistake. They looked at me like I was crazy and then I explained that I have made my share of mistakes -- make no doubt about it. But when I do make a mistake, I own up to it, I correct it, I forget about it, and move on. So yes, I make mistakes (just like everyone else), but I can't remember many of them. Know what? I got the promotion. And afterwards, they told me it was due, in large part, to how I answered that question.

Now, if I could just learn to apply that "wisdom" to my SP journey . . . .

Resolve

Wednesday, August 18, 2010

Getting back on track can be very rewarding after a little lapse in not eating right. I usually exercise even if I fail to fall within my calorie range. But after last week's 1.4 lb lost it motivated me to get back to work and start losing again. I have a beach trip coming up in a month and would like to lose 4 lbs by then. I know I can do it. I just read an article about eating at least your 1200 calories per day to lose. So instead of using my 1550 I'm striving for 1200. Along with exercise that should give me a 500 point deficit each day and should lose 1 lb per week. I'm cutting the food in half. I'm going to share. Iam going to lose 4 lbs by Sept 17th, my beach trip.

Let us know how this works out for you. If I overexcercise, my little nutrition tracker tells me I need to eat more so I was always afraid to cut calories more for fear it would bring everything to a standstill. I'm curious to see how yours goes. It is always nice to have a goal date.

I don't want a hurt back

Tuesday, August 17, 2010

My back is hurting this morning but not enough to be a bother. I've never had back trouble and I hope I'm not having it now, permanently. It could be because I canned beans yesterday afternoon until 9:30 p.m. I humped over stringing and breaking them so I contribute it to that. I would be very upset if I started to have chronic back trouble. It would mean no exercise program like I enjoy now. But, quit this. Your putting the horse before the card and worrying needlessly. Will straighten the posture out and go from there. Thanks for listening Sparkers and Spark Friends.

I agree, you dont want back trouble...I have had it intermittently for quite some time now and thanks to physical therapy to strengthen my core I am much improved. I take Aleve every day for it but that gets me where I need to be and worrying about the pain in my inspiration to get my PT in, believe you me. Sounds like you did a lot of work though so hope that is all it is. Keep it up and be good to your back and it will be good to you too!

Almost no doubt that the canning is the problem, but saying a Prayer for your back anyway.
Along the line that Andi was saying, I have also found that laying on the floor with my legs up on the Divan helps my back sometimes.

I have found that laying in the floor and doing some stretches helps when my back gets that way. I will bring both legs up into a curl and hold for about 30 seconds several times. Then I will bring one leg up, and straighten the other, then vise versa.

I am sure you could google some back stretches and try them.

Putting an ice pack on your back is good also. It breaks up the inflammation.

No doubt it's the bean canning. My back hurts when I'm doing that stuff too. Take it easy, do some good stretches every once in a while and, if necessary, take some motrin or advil, etc., Hope your back is feeling A-OK in a day or so.
