For some reason I am still struggling with weight gain. For a long time I didn't count my calories but I was logging what I ate daily. I have been counting since the first of the month and eating about 1700-1800 net calories a day and my weight is continuing to increase. I have cut out a lot of junk food and eating healthier snacks but it doesn't reflect on the scale. I know it not just the scale that is increasing but my inches too. I don't think its muscle yet since I haven't been lifting that much but I am increasing weekly.
I been eating a primal diet and exercising about 3-4 days a week. Doing a little bit of boot camp, biking and running. I talked to my BC instructor and he said to give it another week and what I have been eating looked okay to him. He just thinks it taking my body a little longer to catch up with my better eating.
We did a great boot camp class this morning. 4 stations with a group of 5 exercise for each station. I feel strong and ready to get the day going.

Starting the journey again

I just finished a full month back at boot camp after being off for two months due to a tricep/shoulder problem from doing too heavy of a weight back in Oct the year before. Even with me cutting back on the weight and reps it wasn't enough and eventually it got bad enough that I felt like I wasn't getting enough out of boot camp that I took a two month break. I was having a little problem with my gluts also so I took off working out for 2 months.
It helped for my arm but I am still having a little issue with it and have to be careful not to do too much in a single workout. The hip problem is much better and I have started back running again even if I am only running 1:1s min run/walk.
I have made changes in my activities by adding in biking with the running and boot camp. So now I am not doing more of one activity so I am resting an area that I would normally over work - like the legs when I trained for the 50k last summer.
I gained about 5-7 lbs. which is pass my limit and I have been struggling to get them off. I have decided to give the primal diet a go and see if I can start to eat healthier and get this weight back down and get some of my muscle back.
So here is the start of my new journal to get healthier and lighter.

Boot Camp - another adventure in fun!

I just finished a month of training with Memphis Adventure Boot Camp. I found out about Memphis ABC through the Social Living emails and I was able to try it out for a whole month for only $20. What a deal!

I met the trainer, Dexter Tenison, a few days before I started so he could take my before picture and measurements. He weighed me and used the fat calipers to measure 3 spots: arm, waist and front of leg.

This was my first venture into boot camp training. I was gunho and ready to go to class 5 days a week. I wasnít really sure if I could do it but was going to give it all I got. I was just starting back to running again after a year of trail walking/race walking.

For the first few weeks, I was sore and tired and gaining weight. I was really getting frustrated with myself since I joined this to lose weight. I did notice that I was really getting stronger and things were getting easier. You never knew what you were going to be doing that day in class. If the weather was above 40 degrees then we worked outside but colder or bad weather we did inside. All you had to have was a set of weights and a mat.

If you donít like to do squats, push-ups, lunges and that sort of stuff, donít go! But if you are up to a challenge and want to get stronger and donít mind working your butt off for it, then this is the place for you! I did go for most of the classes except for a few because of the snow and then when I had my tooth pulled. If I didnít make a class I would go and run so I did workout at least 5 days a week.

I was able to keep up with the running but it did put a toil on my body, I donít feel like I was as strong as I could be because I worked out so much during the week. A few times after the 5:30 am class I would stop by the Farms on the way home and run/walk for about an hour. I liked that.

Finally by the 3 week I stopped gaining weigh and my measurements were getting smaller. The last week I finally dropped a few lbs at my weekly weigh in at Weight Watchers! In the last week, I changed up my diet just a little by eating more proteins and less carbs. I am eating more calories through out the day now but it is working for me. Its hard not eating all those carbs that I am used to for the walking/running workouts. I love my carbs!

It all came down to the last day of boot camp. I arrived early to have my weight and fat ratios measured. I had lost .7 lbs. according to his scale and went from 31.4% fat down to 29%. I had lost 3.13 lbs. of fat and gain 2.43 lbs. of lean muscles. On my home scales, I had lost 2.4 lbs. and 1.88Ē over all. The coolest thing was I lost the most fat in my thigh!

I plan on keeping up with my workouts at home. I think I learn enough from him and am disciplined enough to keep up with it. Today will be a running day and I will do my boot camp workout tomorrow!

Some good and some bad

For the last 2 weeks I have been going to Memphis Adventure Boot Camp but I am missing a few days because of the snow/ice on the ground. The good news is I still am doing my workouts at home. I feel like I am getting my abs back, that is, they feel tighter. My legs are getting stronger and more defined too. I am working out 6/7 days a week with me doing the BC 5 days and the running/walking 3 days. So a few days a week I am getting in 2 workouts in a day.
The only drawback is I am still gaining weight. I really don't think I can blame it on the new "muscles" I am getting. I think with the winter weather and I am not getting out of the house as much, I am thinking a lot more about what foods I can eat or not eat or shouldn't. My calories have definitely gone up. It seems like I am always hungry now. I am burning approximately 431 calories a day with me eating 1940 avg a day. When I did my Calories metabolism count, I was told to eat a min of 1500 a day on days I didn't workout. So according to my diary, I am eating what they said I should to lose weight not gain. I am using a HRM to count my exercise calories so I don't think I am over estimating them. This is all frustrating, maybe I will do better this week and eat more protein than carbs.
Today I will be heading to the dentist to get a tooth fixed, I just hope it doesn't mess with my plans to go on a 10 mile compass hike at Shiloh Military State Park. I am really looking forward to this since I had such a great time when I did this a few years ago. Its totally different when you don't use the trails.

    Thanks Celebratelife1. I did get to go on the hike but it only panned out to about 8.5 miles but it was a lot of fun and we had some great weather. I went again the next day out at Stanky Park for 10.5 miles. I think I got my trail fix that weekend.
I had the tooth removed on Wednesday and haven't been able to workout since. I would like to walk a little today, getting a little restless here.

    I would love to know why you are gaining. You appear to be doing everything right.
Hopefully, you will be able to go on your 10 mile hike. Going on a hike is one item that I have on my bucket list. You are such an ispiration.

Alrighty, a great run/walk this morning

First time in a long time that I can actually say I ran instead of walked. Don't get me wrong about the walking, I love walking and done miles and miles by walking. When it comes to the trails I take a great delight in running them.
Today's 1/1s were good but a little too slow to get the HRM in Zone 1. The run was fine but when the group I went with did the walk portion, they would walk too slow for me but by the time we got to mile 4 we did pick it up some which made it much better.
The group I trained with are all runners and I am the lone walker. I don't do my LSD (long slow distance) with them when I am training for a half marathon or 25k but like to do the other workouts with them. So I don't plan on staying at the 1/1 ratios of run/walk but hope to get up to a higher time of running and less time of walking.
I really enjoyed watching the sun rise while we were running, first time in a while to get out at dark before day light. We went 6.5 miles in 1:40 so that is a good start. I hope to do more running this weekend on the trails and a little faster too!
