"Yea, Yea, Today is my Birthday"!

Thursday, December 11, 2008

Today I am 47 years old, did I actually say that out loud! My birthday wish for myself is to get healthy for my 48th birthday. I really don't mind being older, I feel more liberated now that I am in my mid fourties and I am doing things for me! Yesterday as a Birthday gift to myself I joined a local community fitness center near my work. It has a track, pool, awesome state of the art workout center, personal trainers, aerobic, and yoga classes, with sauna ect. They have a running for the 5k class starting in jan, that I signed up for. I plan on doing a 5k in march so I'm sure this will help me prepare for it. emoticon

A fun tradition I've been following since improving my health has been to go to each year on my birthday and fill out ALL the extensive questions they ask to determine what one's "REAL" age is.

The fun, super thing has been as I age, my REAL age has dropped! In 2007 I turned 51, real age was 49. This year I turned 52 and my real age was 48!

It's wonderful to grow YOUNG, not OLD! :-)

Today I begin my health quest

Tuesday, December 02, 2008

I've never done a blog before so I'm just winging this for a little while. I started or should I say restarted due to how horrid I did over thanksgiving. I could only do 15 min on my treadmill yesterday. I was talking with my friend about how out of shape I am and she gave me a swift kick in the butt that I needed. She reminded me I used to be a marine for goodness sakes and I ran in the marine corp marathon in 1983-1987. I never achieved any top ten placement but I finished the dang thing. I don't want to run a marathon but my daughter convinced me to do a 5 k and I signed up for one last night in my area for march 28 2009. That gives me roughly 16 weeks.
So today I got up and went for a brisk walk/run in 28 degree weather with the snow falling so hard I could barely see at times. I really felt invigorated! I went 3 miles in under an hour with hills. It is not the greatest feat considering it was mostly walking with a little jogging in between but I went out and pushed myself to do it. It is going to take some time before I can be running full capacity but before march 1 I am going to be doing it. I really don't care if I come in last as long as I finish.

Good job. It takes time to get there but you will do it. I just did a 5K in Nov. and it was fun. So you go and keep on training. Small steps at a time.

Take care and good luck

You really got me motivated to get off my duff and start to get some exercise in - although we don't have snow here in MD yet, it feels cold enough to start any minute.

You kindly left a note on my blog today- as I just started this program myself yesterday and so far I love the technology components - and the recipes!

We have our goal weight in common. I'm hoping to achieve mine sometime in June so I can wear those too-tight summer clothes that have been packed away for a few years.

I admire you for signing up for a marathon - you go for it and you will succeed!

Whew! Somebody's doing some serious SPARKING out there! :-)

WTG!! Woo hoo!! Sounds like it was a real UP time for you out in the elements!

I can't wait for there to be enough snow around here for me to try cross country skiing for the first time. That's my winter really tackle cross country skiing.

Springtime I'm hoping, no: I WILL bike the Kalhaven Trail from Kalamazoo to South Haven Michigan...34 miles...! That's my NEXT goal...woo hoo!

Keep SPARKIN' out there!
