But it won't be that bad either. It will give you a baseline to where to start. Remember what ever the scale says, you are still a great person!!!

The important thing is that you're back and ready to get in the saddle again. If the scales don't favor you....just remember, next week is a new week!

Love the new weight tracker options!

Now all can see just how closely I'm maintaining, or not!

I'll have to think about inches... That might actually be the best barometer. The tummy and thigh circumferences paint the most accurate picture.

Maintaining can be Fun!

Sunday, February 13, 2011

Ah, the challenge of keeping "IT" off.

I needed to add some spice to the challenge. Winter weight was creeping up on me. Pants were a little tighter around the tummy and the left thigh. Arm bands on new polo shirts seemed a little tight too. But, what to do??

I was watching a recorded Dr. Oz last week and he had a guest, Timothy Ferris, author of The 4 Hour Body. He had some radical ideas on how to control weight like wearing an ice pack on your upper back and neck for 30 minutes every night. Wild idea, huh? But, I was so intrigued that I ordered his book.

His diet recommendations for weight loss sounded doable to me so I stocked up on the items on his recommended list. Meat, veggies and beans. They make up what he calls a "slow carb diet." In eight days I lost three inches and nothing is tight any more!! On the ninth day I "binged." He recommends one pig out day per week. I actually had to force myself. (Isn't that a riot? Forcing myself to eat calorie dense foods of my choice?!?!?!?)

Today, I'm back on the slow carb program and feel great.

This maintaining might not be such a pain after all...

Maintenance begins - The biggest challenge.

I am claiming sucess. At 137.6 - two pounds from my original goal - I feel good, I look good and I'm happy. My goal now is to stay between 140 and 135, to keep up the exercise regimen that has worked for me and to continue to eat healthfully.

My past downfalls can all be attributed to getting back on the sugar wagon. After 8 months and seventeen days of sugar-free eating, I no longer crave it. I have easily walked away from cake, ice cream, candy and cookies. I know it will continue to be easy as long as I don't give in. Like an alcoholic, it only takes one dose to send me on a downward spiral of binge sugar eating. So - I'll just say NO!
