Evaluating My Food Intake

Sunday, February 02, 2014

I've done a great job logging in my food. For that I'm very proud of myself! emoticon
I sat down last night and looked at the calorie intake for the past seven days. The range SP has given me is 1340- 1690, totally doable. After looking at the intake there were only two days that I actually made it over the 1340. Never made it into 1400 or higher and most days were in the 1200 range.

So even though I'm doing great with logging I need to do better at staying in the range. I haven't felt depraved, starving or ready for a binge. Last night my family made French Bread pizzas. I dug out the extra bread in my piece of bread and loaded it with vegetables and low cal/low fat protein. My total dinner was 400 calories and I felt like I was NOT on a diet.

Today, being Superbowl Sunday, my family bought some unhealthy foods (My husband and a few of the kids went to the store). I've got my eyes on ONE serving of buffalo wings and LOTS of veggies and a huge green salad. I will stay within my range today!

Goal for this week...To at least get on the lower end of the range for 4 out of the 7 days. That will be an improvement from the 2 out of 7 this last week.

Excellent job on evaluating your food intake and making the adjustments you need especially during Superbowl night. Great!

Have a nice week.

emoticon That is impressive. One of the reasons I exercise so much is that I can't stay in the range that was set for me. You are doing great!

WOW! I'm impressed. If you ever notice your weight loss begin to slow, you may want to increase your calorie intake a little, to spark your metabolism.
You're doing great! emoticon

Tracking daily is a great first step. When you feel really ready, move on to tweaking: make sure you're within range every day.
What I'm doing to create habits one step at a time looks something like this:
1) January - track daily - I did my best to stay within range and I tried to eat as healthy as I could but I didn't beat myself up for eating "bad" things or going a little bit over - DONE!
2) February - start to reduce those "bad" things (for me, it's carbs) by going Paleo this month - still tracking daily, still not beating myself up if going over
3) March - add in exercise daily (currently not doing anything, although my job has me on my feet 10-12 hours a day for 4 days a week, so I'm not completely sedentary), still tracking daily, still low-carb. I'll be adding a minimum of 10 minutes of exercise a day, not focusing yet on increasing, going for crazy runs, etc...just creating that habit again. I'll mostly be using my treadmill at home.
4) April - going back to the drawing board with tracking and working on always being within range no matter what. No excuses. Still exercising at least 10 minutes a day, still low-carb.
5) May - really focus on the exercise, starting to go on regular runs out of doors. Still low-carb, still tracking within range.

That's as far as I've gotten...I figure that the following months will focus a lot on adding in other healthy habits, but I'm giving myself those 5 months (now 4) to really get the tracking and exercising and carbs under control.

Loving My New Gym!

Wednesday, January 29, 2014

I've been there every day it's been open. Today was day SIX! The owner knows me now and takes the time to say hi when he spots me working out.

Loving the media room. Today the played Wolverine. I was able to walk the treadmill for 45min. Would have stayed longer, the movie was that great, if my schedule had allowed.

The thing I'm loving is that in only six days I've seen such a huge improvement. I'm definitely not where I was last year when I was working out but I've had changes in just six days.

Day one I had to walk the treadmill at 2.8 and my HR was going a little too high. I only did that for 30 min. Today I walked it at 3.1, was able to maintain my HR right where it needed to be and worked out for 45 min. Feels good to get stronger again.

At first I'm trying to make up for the damage my unhealthy lifestyle brought on. But eventually I'll be heading down new territory, accomplishing things I've never done.

My schedule has been crazy but each night at look at the next day and figure out the best time for me to go. That might be 5:30 a.m., 5:45 p.m., later and in between. The point is I'm doing it! Putting my health first. Keeping Communication open with my family and receiving Tremendous Support in return.

Have a wonderful day! I know I will....My workout is already down for the day! (now to just be creative throughout my day to accumulate extra steps.)

3 For 3!

Saturday, January 25, 2014

The opening of my gym was three days ago and I've made it there each day! I'm proud of myself in finding ways to get there even with my extremely busy schedule!

I'm a bit concerned about my knee. I've had problems with it for awhile. Just a little twinge of pain at the right top of the knee cap. For the past few months the back of my knee has been hurting, on the right side. If I stretch my leg straight out on the ottoman it hurts or even when I'm driving. Sometimes my knee wants to give out on me in that spot. All of that was without exercising.

Now that I'm exercising it's yelling at me more. I've just been doing the treadmill at a walk and today did the bike. For some reason the bike hurt it more.

I've been icing but I think I might have to get a knee brace to keep it more secure during workouts.

Weigh-in is on Monday. I'm looking forward to see what these three days of working out, and eating within my calorie range, will bring.

I agree with Dusty: we have to be super-careful with our knees. They are an evolutionary weak spot! There are some good exercises here on Spark to strengthen the muscles that support the knee and they really help. Slow and steady will win this race!
Good luck!

That's great Krista you're liking the new gym.

Please be careful of your knee! So many injure their knee(s) especially those who weigh around what we do.

Don't risk injury just because you "feel" you've got to keep up with everyone else.

There are plenty of upper body exercise you can do in the meantime.

Good Luck! emoticon

New Gym! New ME?

Thursday, January 23, 2014

I hope so!

A new gym is opening up in my town, about a mile from my home. Instead of the other gyms that charge $39-$50 a month this one will only be charging $10 a month!!! Or if I want to take unlimited classes and use the tanning beds only $20 a month! Even the daycare is only$10 a month with 1.5 hours allowed every single day!

It opened today. I'm heading there tonight at 7 with my SISTERS!

The gym isn't what I'm really excited about. What I think will get me going and help me stay committed is that my sisters, my husband, one of my sons and one of my daughters plus over 40 friends have all signed up. Having that support from good friends and family is what I'm planning on using to make this a successful membership and for making a NEW ME!

One thing I LOVE about the gym (although haven't tried it out yet) is they have a movie room with cardio machines! Training to walk a half marathon will take a lot of time one day a week. I'm hoping to spend those longer walks on a treadmill in front of a good movie!

Got to love finding a place where you can meet up with people in your support system to get some exercise in. You make me think I need to stop wasting my money and use my membership.

Hey Krista--This is GREAT news!!! We have some of those $10/20 gyms here & i've really been on the fence about joining. Your post makes me want to run out & join!!! I really do get bored on the TM so the opportunity to try other machines & watch movies in the movie room really entices me. Thank you so much for sharing your enthusiasm!!! Broken Toe!

Wednesday, January 15, 2014

I hate it when injuries come about from a stupid event. We have a tiny half bath and I walked in there to do some cleaning. Obviously walked too close to the door jam and my little toe paid the price.

ARGH!

I've still been very productive today, trying to walk on the inside of that foot. It definitely helps to have my tennis shoes on, tightly laced.

Lets see how many steps I can still get in.

Onward and Upward!
