HUGE Event 17 Weeks Away!

Monday, January 13, 2014

Don't know what I was thinking but I did it AGAIN, I've signed up for the Hippie Chick Half Marathon! Last year was my first year doing it and after an injury impacted my training I had to change to the quarter marathon at the last moment. I walked it, finished it and beat the time I had set for myself.

This year my sisters are doing it "with" me. My older sister, Nat-Again, lost 90 lbs and has been crazily, physically active for the past year. She ran a half-marathon that was on a trail with crazy steep hills. She's quite the inspiration! We are all at different levels so we'll be there supporting each other but won't be right next to one another.

The "Peace" Chick on my background is the logo for this year's run.

I have a walking training plan that is a 12 week program, same one I used last year. So right now I have 5 weeks to focus on losing some weight and get back into the routine of walking before I get started.

Actually, thank goodness I signed up for this event. I think it will be the kick in the rear I need to get going again.

Getting Up and Moving!

Monday, January 13, 2014

Last week was my first week back. Normally I start with exercise first and that helps me get motivated to eat healthier. For some reason it's the reverse this time. I have NO desire to get my behind up and moving. So last week I worked on my food intake. Made healthier meals, investigated some healthier snacks, tracked my food and counted my calories.

Worked well because I lost 3lbs!

This week I'm adding in steps. My treadmill has broken since the last time I was on SP. That, along with cold, wet, winter weather might be what is keeping me from getting my exercise in. I've set the goal to get 6,000 steps in today, 6,500 for tomorrow, 7,000 for Wednesday and increase each day by 5oo steps until I reach 10,000 steps.

To do this I'm making small changes; not asking my kids to go get something for me, do it myself! Park a little further away, pull out my Walk Away the Pounds DVD, get up and play more with the kids.

Need to work my way up to bigger, longer workouts....I have a HUGE goal coming up!

Those "small" steps help SO much! I got in much better shape thanks to "Just Ten Minutes" of exercise a day! And the 1/2 marathon with your sister's help will be even more inspiration. YOU CAN DO IT!

Blah, blah, blah, blah, BLAH!

Wednesday, January 08, 2014

Here I am...AGAIN! I'm sure by this time it's like the boy that cried wolf. No one's listening or believing. I guess that's okay because truly only ONE person has to Believe.

ME!

But do I?

NO!

But I have to find it in myself to believe. I have to find it in myself to listen to what my body needs. I need to figure out that food will NOT solve all the problems, worries and stresses I have (believe me there are TONS!) I HAVE TO learn how to put myself first. By doing that I'll be around to help those I love!

I need to find the integrity to be true to myself. I wouldn't give up on anyone else. Why is it so easy to give up on me?

There is NO desire to workout. There is complete desire to EAT, eat sugary, carb filled food. Right now I'm trying to fake it until I make it. Usually exercise is the first thing that falls into place. Right now it's the food. Day 2 of tracking. Still haven't done any exercising but I am do little things to increase my steps. They're not anywhere close to where I want or need them to be but they're getting higher.

Faking it until you make it works well. That's usually how I get started back up again. I'm struggling just like you are. For me, the steps are going well (most days) but the food isn't. Keep trying and eventually they will both fall into place!

New year, new start, new energy, new chance for improvement!
"Just Ten Minutes" of exercise really helps me when I need to start over. Maybe it will help you too? You don't have to do more than that if you can't, but "Just Ten Minutes" will help you get a long, long way!

You know what to do but aren't doing it. Your focused on your rebellion which is normal but yet you still are saying that you want to do something differently. Right?

First thing is stop being afraid of changing. This is normal and we all face it sooner or later. You are simply facing it before you truly start out on your path. It has you immobile and stuck in your rut.

They say slow and steady wins the prize.... Don't beat yourself up, you're human, and we don't always do the right thing. Just brush yourself off when you fail, and start over again. Just don't stop trying! emoticon

Hippie Chick - Quarter Marathon - Completed!

Sunday, May 12, 2013

Yesterday was the big day!

Originally, back in November, I signed up to do the half marathon. My training was going great, made it to 9 miles, then life happened.

With pains and a crazy life I allowed my training to fall off track, for about 2 months or so.

I was determined to stick to my goal and not give up comletely so I switched to the Quarter marathon.

Originally my sister, Nat-Again, was going to do it with me. She kept her eye focused on her goal. Exercised diligently and lost a lot of weight. She looks Amazing! But then severe tendinitis got in her way and she wasn't able to participate.

My 20yo daughter did it with me.

We drove the hour plus to arrive at our destination and met up with 20+ friends from church and community. Most were doing the half and they have all been very inspirational to me.

Being still morbidely obese I was self-conscious about coming in last or being "different" from everyone else. I was pleasantly surprised to see we all came in different shapes and sizes. As we stood around taking in the thousands in attendance I told my daughter it's great to know I'm not there being judged by others. We all have our own stories, we are all there to do our best whatever we, ourselves, define it to be at that very moment.

The 6.55 miles was tough. The scenery beautiful, the road easy, the environment motivational but the distance added to the heat added to the fact my training had slacked off made it a challenge. I had to talk to myself, become my own cheerleader and told myself giving up was NOT an option.

I was pleasantly surprised to see I had beat the goal I had set for myself. (2:15:00) I finished in 1:57:11 coming in 934th out 1056 (those doing the quarter)

I WILL be signing up for it again next year. I hope I can stay focused on my health and will be able to accomplish a new Best next year>

Trial Run....

Saturday, May 04, 2013

...Or should I say Walk.
I really needed to know if it was even possible for me to try for the quarter marathon. I set the goal to walk for 2 hours today. Just got back.
It was hot! I hadn't hydrated during the week so I felt a bit dehydrated. It was slower going than I had been at. In a 2 hour time period i walked 5.95 miles. I think a quarter marathon is 6.55 if I've figured it out correctly.
I have NO pain while walking. My pain comes once I stop and sit down then start moving again. After the walk I drove 2 minutes home. In that short time, when I got out of the car and started walking again my feet killed!

I think the Hippie Chick Quarter Marathon is doable. I have to get over my hangup of finishing last, my goal should just be to finish knowing I've accomplished something greater for myself regardless if I cross the finish line last.

Goal for this week leading up to the event. HYDRATE daily. Walk for an hour or so Mon, Tues and Wed. Nothing planned for Thursday or Friday unless it's just a little leisure stroll with the kiddos.

Any suggestions from the pros out there would be appreciated!
Thank you for all the support on my previous blog!

Sounds like a good schedule! I seriously doubt you will be the very last. There are always a few that don't even finish at all, or skip part of the course. Just doing it will be amazing!
