Friday, May 20, 2011

So I didn't mean to take it as a video, was using my 11-year-old's camera. But emoticon
What a nice surprise to wake up to this morning! I'm not going to say I'll never see the 300's again because TOM is knocking at my door and the number is not far enough away from the 3's to allow for water gain.

25lbs down in 8.5 weeks! YAY!

Well done Krista! There is someone in Sparkland you should meet. She is a mother of 8, all of whom live at home in spite of some being the age of majority, has serious health problems, works full time as a teacher, yet has managed to pull herself away from the brink of being morbidly obese. She is a real inspiration, she lost 100 lbs with Spark People. Her name is ENUFF81020. Having never had children, I can't begin to imagine the struggle it is for you guys to get in the 'me' time to look after yourselves properly with all the demands on your time.
All the best with staying under 300, and with your weight loss goals!

CONGRATS! It's a huge milepost--you should be very proud of what you have accomplished. Thanks for your nice comment on my staying happy blog. All 3 of those girls said so many motivating things Tuesday night. I too liked Irene, when she said she felt broken before. I used to think, "When I get my eating fixed, I'll...." Of course now I realize my eating habits are never really "fixed," it's more like something that needs adjusting and controlling constantly. I'm secretly rooting for Irene on Biggest Loser. She is so quiet and unassuming, and never complains. They tell Irene to do something, and she just quietly does it. I think the TV cameras don't focus on Irene as much as the other girls, just because she is so quiet. But I love her. It won't hurt my feelings if Olivia, Hanna, or even Ken wins. Ken probably has the inside track, just because he has more to lose. But it's all based on percentage. I did my percentage of weight loss the other day. I had quit keeping track of it, after I hit 50% of my weight gone (at 164 lbs.). At 155.6 pounds, (today's weigh-in), I have lost approximately 52% of my starting weight. WOOHOO! Think I could have won on Biggest Loser? LOL!!

Weigh In # 8

Tuesday, May 17, 2011

So as of today I've been on this weight loss journey for 8 weeks ( not even two months yet). The past two weeks have been successful as far as my choices have gone but very depressing on the Scale.

I was a little apprehensive about going on my trip because I usually gain every time I've gone somewhere. I strived to make good choices while in AZ. I didn't eat perfectly but as I explained to someone while I was there. "I'm not going to eat everything I'm offered, I'm just going to choose the few things that I REALLY want and then stay on plan the rest of the time"

Well my choices paid off. I'm 303 this morning! Down 3.6lbs from last week. I am SO CLOSE to the 200's. Only 3.1 more pounds until I no longer see a THREE in front of my weight!

After a vacation I sometimes have a hard time getting back into the swing of things. I didn't wake up early to get my exercise in today. I'm hoping to get on the treadmill for at least 30minutes when the three little ones go down for a nap.

I need to take my measurements. I didn't do starting numbers eight weeks ago. I do have my beginning measurements from when I first started SP a little more than a year ago. That's my goal for today. MEASUREMENTS!

Congrats on the weight loss! Get back on that horse girl, the longer you wait, the harder it is. (At least from my experience) Definitely do the measurements too, they are so critical. You might also want to do something like a stamina test. I don't know if you own a heart rate monitor or not but we did a stair test where we went up and down the bottom step for 2 minutes, looked at the heart rate and then how long it took to recover and then did it later. Stamina can also be another good measurement tool.

Realization

Monday, May 16, 2011

After a wonderful weekend in Arizona with two of my brothers and their wive (plus many others) I have come to a realization...I am FATTER than I realized, I am UNHEALTHIER than I realized and I've realized I REALLY have NOT been living life.

The past four days were great but hard! Flying on a plane, walking TONS with healthy fit people, getting in and out of cars, wearing clothes, NOT wearing a bathing suit, chairs too small, sweating in the heat, etc.. All of these things have brought the realizations about.

I've known I'm fat, morbidly obese actually. I've known I'm unhealthy but I thought I was living. Heck, I'm constantly busy running here and there and everywhere. But I think I've used my busy life with 7 kids as an excuse to hide from life. I deep down haven't wanted to be out and doing and I'm sure it's all because of my weight. Staying mostly involved with my family has kept me more complascent with how I looked. Didn't really like it but it wasn't hard enough to change it.

I want to truly LIVE. I want to feel healthy, fit and alive! I know I'm heading that direction! It was a good feeling to know that this vacation was the LAST one at this weight!

Can't wait to see what my scale will say for my official weigh-in tomorrow!

emoticon....I'd say with all that realization, it's time to look at your goals. Maybe you need to reset a few that can be achieved with baby steps. Put your visual pictures out and make a commitment to YOU!

YOU are worth it and YOU deserve it! Good luck with weigh in!

I have been working on the emotional stuff recently. I only have 6 kids but, I have wondered recently about myself. I think a certain amount of "loss of self" is to be expected as a mom. But, at some point it is my journey through this life too.

I like you thought that my weight did not matter. But, part of me knows that it does. I know I need to do something about it.

Write down some stuff that you are moving ahead and keep moving forward. We'll get there together.

You are on your way, I think sometimes fat is like the story about the frog in hot water. If you put the frog in cold water and turn the pot on to boil, they don't realize they are in trouble and they get cooked. If you put him in hot water, he hops out.

I think getting fat is like going from cold water to boiling over many years. It sneaks up, slowly taking things away, like sitting in cheap lawn chairs, riding roller coasters and sitting in plane seats.

Here's the good thing... you can usually lose it much faster than you put it on!

Great that your using your realization for the better. As a mom it can be hard to live your own life (I can't even imagine 7!) but your worth it. You have to be selfish at times because no one can take care of you but yourself. Good luck on your journey!

This is a hard one to comment on-lol!! On one hand woot that you are so determined and ready to change things. On the other...:( that you have had some hard "realizations". Ones we all have often enough, we just love to shove them to the back and ignore them. We are doing our best, we try...but we also know, back in the back of our minds, that there is more. Glad that realization is driving you forward!! Glad you had a fun time and were so active!!

Wonderful!

Friday, May 13, 2011

So I survived my plane rides. On my second flight, whish was the longest, I sat by a wonderful lady. We were able to visit a bit and I was able to finish my book.

Walking through 3 airports definitely gave me the steps I needed on my pedomoeter! Lugging a carry on suitcase and a heavy backpack helped with my ST.

It was so great to see my brother and his wife, Their little guy was sound asleep and I got to peek in on him. Nothing better than watching a baby sleep unless it's HOLDING the sleeping baby.

I kept my brother and his wife up to late, so much to talk about but I knew they'd be woken up sometime in the middle of the night with a hungry baby so off to bed. I set my alarm for 6:30 so I could get up and walk. I filled my water bottle up, hooked up my pedometer and out the door I went. It's a strange neighborhood so I had to make sure I kept track of which direction I was going so I could find my way back. I walked for 45 min and got 5300 steps in on my pedometer.

My sister-in-laws family is staying at an awesome hotel. They have an amzing continental breakfast where they'll make ready to order omelettes. I had a egg white one with tomatoes, mushrooms, onions and green peppers then yummy canteloupe and honey dew with a small 4oz yogurt!!! Everyone went and got in the pool. I forgot to bring a suit so I hung out with my nephew and his grea-grandma.

Now it's off to grocery shop for the masses and then to the two graduations, one for the Law School and the other for his MBA.

I'll get to see my other brother in a bit. It's great to see my family, it's been WAY too long.

I'm going to stay strong and focused on my program! Just need to find a scale to figure out what's going on.

Thanks so much for everyone's help with my flying anxieties!

Krista
P.S. My first flight I had to ask for a seatbelt extender, yeah, not fun. I was thrilled when I didn't have to for the second flight.

What I love is that you didn't mention the belt extender until the very end of the post...it did not define you, or your trip, you are working out, you are having a great time and you are eating well. AWESOME!! Don't worry about the scale...two reasons...1. You are on vacation, eat properly and hydrate, hydrate, hydrate and don't worry about what the scale does until you get home. 2. Every scale is different, unless it is a properly calibrated physician's scale you could get a wildly inaccurate reading. Never trust any scale but your own when tracking how much you've gone either way. Just take a vacation from the scale for a couple of days and check out the numbers when you get home. Consider it practice for when you are in maintenance :).

I'm sorry you had to get an extender, I know you were worried about it. The good news is that with your current rate of progress, there will be a point in your near future where that will NEVER happen again.

Waiting....

Thursday, May 12, 2011

...At the airport. I'm here! I'm breathing deep and recognizing that everyone around me is just the same as me, no better no worse.

I've had a great day. Woke up at 5:30 to get a workout in before kids woke up and daycare kids arrived. I've eaten GREAT and as of now I have more than 12,000 steps on my pedometer.

I have a great book (actually 3) and I'm going to enjoy some ME time on the plane doing my favorite pastime...NO, not walking up and down the aisle for more steps...READING!

Thanks for all the support and encouragement. This journey for me encompasses MUCH MORE than just losing weight. Getting healthy is more than just that.
