Why I Want to Lose Weight and Maintain My Success

Monday, October 20, 2008

(So I started the book 100 Days of Weight Loss by Linda Spangle. I've decided to post some of the activities as blog entries.)

This is why I'm doing the 100 Days Program, and why I'm absolutely sticking with my plan:

* Have healthy babies! Be in the best shape possible before trying to conceive

* Grow old with my husband

* Be a good example to my kids and be here for them as long as possible

* Have more energy

* Not be in pain

* Be healthier! Lower my blood pressure. Do what is in my power to reduce my risk of diabetes, cancer, and other disease.

* Be able to shop anywhere and to look cute in clothes that fit

* Feel strong and powerful and fit

* Be the athletic outdoorsy woman that I know is inside me

* Enjoy life more

* Be comfortable in my own skin. Gain more confidence in myself

* Let go of the old me that I don't like and am ashamed of

* Be more attractive to my husband (although he says I couldn't possible be! What a darling!) and feel sexy

* Feel relaxed and let go of stress

* Not be ashamed to wear a swimsuit in public

Already I've looked at this list about 20 times since yesterday. I need to remind myself of my motivation for changing my life. I've always heard it was a good tool, but I've never stuck with it. I may have created a list with reasons in the past, but I didn't hold onto it longer than a day. I'm going to make a real effort to review this daily for at least the next couple weeks. I have a copy on my iPod so I can glance at it anytime. I hope that this will help me keep the focus that I find difficult when I'm busy with other things in my life.

    I've been meaning to get back to you regarding your list since way back when you wrote it (crazy / busy times, ya know?).

It is just uncanny how much I can identify with EVERYTHING (short of "Have healthy babies" on your was like somebody wrote MY list!

Thx for pulling together such important goals!

    Great list. I almost want to steal it. I feel the same way about most of it. Having energy to do things is a big reason that I want to be fit.

    That is a GREAT list shannon - I see you in every one of them and accomlishing it by leaps and bounds. Just keep remembering that looooong bike ride this past summer - you can do it!! I think our minds are our biggest hurdle to our success - we spend too time THINKING and not enough time just DOING!! You are such and inspiration - thank you for the blog!!

My Week

Sunday, October 19, 2008

First, the great news -- I lost 5.0 lbs this week! Granted, some of that is extra TOM weight from the week before, but I'll take it! The two challenges I'm doing (Ring in 2009, and BLC III) are really helping me focus.

I haven't worked out in over a week. I've had really bad bronchitis and have had such difficulty breathing as it is, working out would probably have killed me. I'm going to try to get an easy workout in tomorrow.

I'm starting 100 Days of Weightloss today. I think I'll post some of the activities as blogs. I bought Secrets of a Former Fat Girl last week. I read some of the beginning, and it spoke to me. I can't wait to get into it, but I feel guilty about starting it before I get to 100 Days, so I'm going to hold off on reading more until I reach my next milestone (3.2 more lbs.) That should give me at least a couple week's headstart on 100 Days.

I just looked over my October goals, and so far I'm doing well. The only one I'm behind on is 1500 exercise minutes. I'm at almost 800, and would have been close to 1500 if I hadn't been on a sickness-imposed break from working out. I still have time to do this before the end of the month. That's still my goal!

    Don't beat yourself up for your workout minutes. Being sick sucks and so does having brochitis, try having it with asthma (not fun at all). When you are healthy, get back on that horse and rock those goals like I know you can.

Week in Review

Monday, October 13, 2008

Once again I'm blogging about my week on Monday instead of Sunday, this time because I was sick last night. Well, I still am, but I'm feeling better. I'm also behind in my logging and my emails.

I am proud of my efforts for last week. I got a lot of cardio in, until the weekend hit, that. And I ate within my ranges. The Ring in 2009 Challenge is really helping me focus. BLC III starts this week, too. Go Pink!!!

This weekend was great for a number of reasons. For starters, my 12 year old stepson had his first Special Olympics competition. They do different sports every month, and this month was soccer. He's in the skills division, where they do drills and score you on times and accuracy as an individual. When he's older he will be able to do team competition. You've never seen a kid so excited. He did awesome! He won second place for the area for his division, and hasn't taken off his ribbon yet. I'm tearing up just thinking about how happy he is right now!

Another triumph this weekend was yesterday when 10 year old stepson's team won their football game. Huge sigh of relief! I was afraid they wouldn't win one all season (they're really bad, lol!)

I still have a fever, so I'm probably not working out today. I was really looking forward to a bike ride. I didn't get on my bike all weekend because I wasn't feeling well. It was perfect weather, too. I'm hoping I'll feel better by 4:30.

Off to a Good Start. And Can Football Be Over Already?

Monday, October 06, 2008

I feel like I am off to a great start this month. Posting my goals has really helped. I've been tracking my food, drinking sooooo much water, and already have 371 fitness minutes racked up. I haven't started 100 Days of Weightloss yet, but I plan to this week.

I am really looking forward to the end of peewee football, because that is not only a huge time commitment, but it's driving me insane because they are so disorganized. They've changed practice fields, practice times, everything you can imagine, without telling the parents. (My favorite was when, after practicing at one middle school field for three weeks, we showed up to find someone waiting to tell us that practices would now be at the other middle school, across town 20 minutes away. It was total chaos, everyone showing up late, a lot of kids not showing up at all because they didn't have a way to get there, etc.)

I've personally volunteered to help by starting a parents phone tree and anything else that's needed. But the guys in charge don't like me because I've been vocal about the need for more communication to the parents. Rather than take me up on my offer to volunteer, they stubbornly say they are managing everything themselves. It's working well. NOT.

Here's this week's insanity-inducing football item, to give you an idea. After last week's game the kids were given a flier saying that football pictures would be taken Sunday the 12th. This past Thursday at the end of practice, the coaches told the kids and parents that pictures were this Sunday, the 5th. My kid's team and their opponent were to be there 2 hours before the game instead of the usual 30 or 60 minutes the coaches would ask for. I raised my hand and said, "the fliers we were given last week say that picture day is the 12th -- is they this week instead now?" We were told, "Yes, the pictures are this Sunday, not next Sunday. Kids, if you see your teammates at school tomorrow who missed practice tonight, be sure to tell them pictures are this Sunday and what time to be at the field."

So fastforward to Sunday, and it's crazy in my house rushing to get everything done I needed to that morning and get Ryder to the field early for Picture Day. Upon arrival, one of the coaches comes to me to tell me that pictures will be next Sunday. "It wasn't our error, though, it was the picture company's fault. They told us it was today, but this morning when we tried to reach them they said they had us down for next week." Um, perhaps that would explain why the flier you made said it was next week, too?

Really, it wouldn't have been half as irritating if I had not asked about the discrepancy with the flier. But there was insistence that the flier was wrong! Ugh. So rather than tell them to come back later, they kept the kids and had a two hour practice before the game. They were exhuasted before the game even started! Poor kids. And now we have to go through it all again for picture day next week!

Three more weeks. Three more weeks. Just three more weeks.

October Goals

Thursday, October 02, 2008

After the rough start last month, I wanted to be sure to determine my goals and put them in writing before I found myself slipping again.

1) Get back to tracking my food! I've been so busy the last couple weeks that I've neglected my nutrition log for the most part. Starting today it's back to tracking.

2) Exercise 1500 minutes this month.

3) Drink at least 10 cups of plain water per day.

4) Lose 6 pounds

5) Start 100 Days of Weightloss

I'll probably blog about my September results soon, when I have a little more time. I just wanted to be sure to get these down and get my month started right!
