to the dock

Wednesday, May 18, 2011

walked to the dock at the lake and back in 30 minutes a really quick clip and calculated out as having burned less than 90 calories! The woods were cool and the birds calling to each other delightful.

we had a tornado touch down about four miles up the road in Grove, Virginia . Then it jumped over the York River and hit Gloucester Virginia and so far there are three deaths and the Page school had a lot of damage.

We were lucky in the Lee Hall area to just have had the wind.

I agree about being lucky. I live in Newport News and all we got were rain and winds.

I am glad I covered the peonies and bleeding hearts we had sleet last night and may have snow tomorrow. I used clear plastic bags and bobby pins to secure the bags to the grow through I looked everywhere for the closepins but had to make due with the bobby pins.
some of the bags were white and even black bags I was wondering about opque bags and if it would harm the plants to remain covered for a few days until the the storms passed. we will start having warmer weater late in the week perhamps as early as Wednesday

Hope you're weather picks up...apparently we've had the driest March for fifty years and it seems to be continuing into April so we're now having to water the garden every day...Mother Nature eh! seems we can't win can we? emoticon emoticon

gray day

Saturday, March 26, 2011

it is mid 30', overcast and gray skies

we put out extra bird seed this morning and the flocks swarmed; seem to be growing everyday.

mostly grackles, cowbirds, and starlings. dotted about the black moving mass are the spots and flashes of the red on the red wing blackbirds

The smaller spotted sparrows, juncos, song sparrows, carolina wrens, darted in and about the larger mass snatching up the crumbs

But the bright flash of the cardinals was more prounced in the dullness of the day.

I do not see many robins as yesterday; but it was warmer yesterday
we are suppose to have a freeze tonight

Thursday, March 24, 2011

back in the 30's tonight! but no snow in the forecast thank goodness. I made a tent of the tarp over the table so the plants would be protected. I hope the bleeding hearts dont frost over. the lilac buds look like little berries. the peonies are almost 12 inches tall already. so the frost would not be good. But some years we have frost as late as Easte, but soon we will be over the frost and onto the roses of summer
