Day 27

Got through another day and this was about the hardest so far, but it's b/c ofother things going on in my life. First off, DH moped around here last weekend with a cold and he was so kind as to share it with me and the baby. Now, don't know when or how, but the baby showed signs with a cough and then snotty nose on Monday, and I started about Wednesday. Today, I just feel wiped out and really didn't even feel like going to the gym today. I tracked my strength for today though I won't really get it done till tomorrow. ( I had to do that last week, too.)
Also, my doggie , of 11 years, who has had trouble now a few months with some kind of spinal problem that has rendered his back legs goofy. It started with just some weakness and the vet said it was not hip dysplasia, but it would probably progress. I can't afford a specialist and it may or may not have been able to help anyway. But now, he can hardly get up onto his back legs, can stay up to poo and sometimes falls in it and has more trouble even weeing. Can't hold a squat any more., poor baby. He does cry now. He started that today and I'm not sure if it's want of attention or pain or a combo. He does bark and whine shen he need to go out. I think he's having some discoumfort now and it's tearing my heart out. We will have to send him on to Rainbow Bridge very soon, so short story made long.....this has added to my foul mood.
So....at the gym I did a 20 minute mile for 30 minutes then started again when I decided not to try strength today. Did a 24 minute mile for20 minutes.
So, totaled 50 minutes.

I could use prayers to help me through these last days (or hours) with my dear Lucky. He is such a sweet, big galoot. Thank you.

    I am so sorry to hear about your sweet dog. I wish I still had my dog wheel chair to send you. emoticon

I eventually had to help my sweet Dr. Dog to the Rainbow Bridge when his hips finally gave up on him. Not much is harder than having to make that decision. That is when you wish they could talk human and say, 'I'm ready.' We are left to try our hardest to really listen to dogspeak to make our best interpretation. I think that is one of the things some people don't get about dogs - they seem to understand our language bette than we understand theirs.

    It's always heartbreakingly sad to lose a much loved pet, but take comfort that you can help make his last days more comfortable and peaceful, rather than just letting him dwindle on in pain and distress.

I really feel for you, and it's got to make staying on the healthy path a really difficult road to keep walking down.

    I know this is so hard...I went through this with our Golden...even though you know it's best for your sweet boy, it rips your heart out of your chest....you know, if you took a 15 or 20 minute walk around the neighborhood that would still keep your streak going....it would give you private time to adjust and relieve the stresses of trying to make it to the gym on a really bad day....could you live with that? I'm sure it would count as far as the rest of us are concerned....Hang tough, my friend. emoticon

Hi there, all of my Spark friends following the continuing saga of "the streak of Olderdandrt!!!!
So, nutrition down the tubes today. Went to DaVinci's ( a local Italian restaurant) and I can never go there without getting gnocci. Just love the stuff! Ordered a Ceasar salad and ruined it for myself by putting too much dressing on. Phooey!!! Then DH decided to stop at an ice cream shop on the way home. Poo!!! Got a small shake (which I'll probably throw most of it out b/c it's not really good! It's very thin. Like drinking milk. So.......let's get down to the fun stuff.
Just to let you know, I did wash my workout pants last night and when I put them on today, they fit fine. Got to the gym and started walking, I realized that the pants remain a bit roomy!!! Now, I'm certainly not ready to go shopping for a smaller size for a while yet, but there is slight improvement in that department!!!
I didn't wear myself completely out this evening, but still averaged my 20 minute/mile for 62 minutes! I had been planning to try to walk longer which is why I was kind of taking it easy, but bad storms had already been through and the sky was darkening with more storms on their way!! So.....I hit 62 minutes, looked outside and it was soooo dark, I just stopped the machine, got my workout summary and beat it out of there!!!
And so, my friends, ends the 26th day of this streak!!! UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!
I hope you all aren't getting completely bored with this as just me doing this is all it's about! I only wish I had some sage advise or something to share, but right now, all I have is what I do !

    Not down the tubes... you had a little eating vacation. An occasional dinner out enjoying yummy food is probably good for you because you won't be missing a favorite food and craving it. It's when you do it on a regular basis that it reached the down the tubes status. Now something like that milkshake, which was a disappointment, is not worth the calories.

You are doing a fantastic job. I am loving your posts!

In another 26 days, they'll have grown even more. *giggle*

Good job on sticking with it, one day of less than perfect food choices is no hardship. You tried to get the right things and you identified bad choices and determined how to deal with those. Step stepped. :)

Day 25

Wow!!! Thought I was pooped after last night!!!! Wow. I started my treadmill workout a few minutes till 4 this afternoon and walked 55 minutes. Was going to only do 30 minutes, then strength then 30 minutes, but decided I'd be way too tired to walk that long again after strength, so went ahead and walked through the pain to the 55 minute mark and still averaged a 20 minute mile!! 3mph!!! Took around 40 minutes to do my strength then finished off with a nice moderate 10 minute walk( which also averaged out to a 20 minute/mile). Don't know if my workout pants just need washed or if they really are getting lose. Guess I'll \wash them tonight and find out!!! hehe
Diet has been ok today and I have absolutely no idea what supper will be. I tend to come in a little lite on the calories, so I don't worry too much.
Got a few things to get done around this house, so I'll sign off for now. I'd never have gotten this far without all my Spark friends!!! Thank you!!! And thanks for reading!!! I appreciate you all!~!! and BTW I slept like a baby last night and actually was able to get up a tad earlier than usualy this morning!!!! Yippee!!!!!

    Hi and good for you!! Hopefully i can follow in your footsteps. I haven't used my tread mill for a long time but last time I tried I didn't last 10 minutes. it is still on an incline and I need to adjust things. I want to walk the dogs plus walk myself. You are doing so well, I have started as of Aug 1st so i can't celebrate much except that I am doing it finally. You have to keep going so i can follow! Georgine emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Day 24

Today was quite a battle. It was DD's late day, which means she was supposed to work till 4:30, but she didn't get here till 5:20! Needless to say, it was peak time at the gym so I decided I'd just wait till about 7:30 to go. No closing time today. But I hate going so close to bedtime, but it's better to go late than not at all, right? So DH gets home around 6:45 with dinner. Tried not to eat too much, and I didn't think I had, but about 30 minutes in, Ididn't feel so hot. What's nice is that they have TV's set up so I was watching this hilarious show called WipeOut and walked and laughed myself through the ugh and worked through it. Then about 10 from the hour, I decided ( not really decided) to choke on a swallow of water. Only lost 30 seconds of walking to cough and sputter. hehe. It did, however, take the wind out of my sails, so I quit short 4 minutes of the hour.
So, I actually completed 56 minutes at 3.0 mph....20minute/mile! And I was going to stroll tonight! HA!
Gotta hit the hay, my friends. It's late (for me) and past my bedtime!
Thank you for taking the time to read and keep pushing me!! I was as close tonight of not going as I have the whole 24 days!!!!

    Woohoo, doing a fantastic job of getting in your exercise - an staying hydrated, emoticon. Seriously, it is better to cough and sputter than to do what I did, being silly about the expense of the water at the rest area, getting dehydrated, and busting my head open. Hydration = good!

Did you get to sleep? I have a terrible time with that if I exercise too close to bed time. I get all revved up and can't rev back down.

I can't believe that I did it again!!! My average speed was between an 18 min./mile and 19 min./mile @ 3.1 mph!! I actually did a bit over 3 miles!!! If you had ever had told me I would be able to do this, I'd tell you you were completely crazy!!! The highest my heart rate got up to today was 122, but hovered between 120-122 for 15-20 minutes, which just HAS to be a good thing!!
Nutrition is great as usual. No probs at this time and no real complaints.

These blogs seem to be getting shorter, but sweeter, these days. I guess b/c it's getting down to being an art. (Might not go quite THAT far just yet!) hehe

What's really cool is that I can get myself there and not have to impose on DD or DH or anybody else. Especially since I'm walking longer and still do a half an hour or better of strength training a couple times a week. I can come and go as I need to.

Thanks for reading and as always......please keep kicking my tush!!!!! Gotta get it slimmed down somehow!! lol!!
