Time Waster

Tuesday, February 16, 2010

First of all let me update y'all on my mom. She left the hospital Friday night and is staying with my sister. She does a little better than the day before each day, which is to be expected. So all is looking good for a complete, albeit, slow recovery. Thanks to everyone who offered prayers, good wishes and kind words.
Well, today I was off work, kids are back at school and I had such good intentions to make today a productive day. But, as they say, intentions don't get things done. Now here it is already a little after 1 in the afternoon and I've barely done anything other than a couple loads of laundry and the dishes. My house is still a mess, but!!!! my little paradise island on facebook is coming along nicely. LOL. I have such a love/hate relationship with my computer. Sometimes my time spent here is either all or nothing. I wish I could operate in the area of moderation... and that goes with all things, but no. I am all or nothing... I eat a lot and all... so therefore I'm fat. I do little or no housework, so therefore I live in chaos. I end up spending my time reading or on this dang computer. I need to learn moderation.

Those of you who are cleanies... where should I start with getting my house in order? I have piles of stuff everywhere that I don't know what to do with. What do you do with extra books that won't fit on the already full shelves? How about art and crafts supplies that cover my counter beneath full cabinets? What about clothes that won't fit in the already full closets and drawers? I'm a mess! We don't live in filth, things are clean, dusted, washed, vacuumed, etc... but we do live in clutter, and I can scarcely throw anything out that I think might remotely be useful someday. HELP! I have tried Flylady, but to no avail. It goes a bit fast for even me and still doesn't tell me what to do with everything. If we could afford it, I would buy a huge storage building to move stuff to... but that is IF... and right now we can't.

Overall, I feel like I am a time waster.. partly because of this computer, partly because I go to attempt to declutter a mess and feel overwhelmed with the dilemma of where to put the stuff, so instead I do easier things like neatening the magazine rack! LOL!
Now I feel like I'm whining. **sigh** emoticon

I need to do something, tho... I'm feeling like this clutter IS making my butt look big... and the stress of it all makes me want to eat!

I like to take the stuff to a flea market and then give the rest away to another vendor or trade for something that is practical/useful. Then the rest I'd dump or give to the resale shop... cause otherwise, you'll have people haggeling with you to get you to give stuff for practically nothing anyway. That way you won't have to deal with irritating
people. And it won't come back inside the house. My family would laugh if they read this cause I save stuff too for crafts as I use them in my work (I'm a COTA Certified Occupationl therapy assist. )and it is hazardous as I cannot throw anything away. I am much better than I used to be. I gave away a ton of stuff. Also you could Use some for gifts to brighten up people's day.
Hope your Mom continues getting better. I am taking care of my sick Mom too. :-( and my sister is very very very ill.
:-( It has been very difficult here for me. I am feeling so emotional. But today she is a little better. So hopefully we'll continue to see some improvement. Maybe now I can sleep now that I wrote this.

I'm happy to hear you mom is doing better! emoticon

I'm living in clutter too but slowly getting organized. My husband and I had both lived on our own for a few years before we got married and moved in together. So we ended up with enough things to furnish two houses crammed into a small apartment...and neither one of us wanting to get rid of our things! lol I have so many things still in boxes and my recent project has been going through them and asking myself "Do I really need this? Is it sentimental or am I just holding onto it because it's 'mine' and I'm stubborn?" lol It has been a great feeling of accomplishment as I elimate each box or space of clutter. I still have alot to go...but don't feel like you're alone. Like you, I am not dirty at all...we just have too many things. And that's it...they are just 'things'. We should stop drowning ourselves with them.

    Glad your mom is improving!!

Clutter - I hate it, yet it always seems to find me. I've really become OK with getting rid of things that aren't sentimental to me. I used to hang on to things because I might use it someday - but I'm better off without the clutter. Clothes are still an issue for me - we have very few closets and they are packed to the gills and overflowing onto surrounding areas. I really try to donate clothes occasionally, but I need to do more of that.

I really try to keep my SP and FB time limited to night - after the kids are in bed and I've done what needs done for the day - but when I'm home all day - I feel the need to occasionally peek LOL!! I think it's a juggling act. SP is part of my "ME" time - when I focus on my health, nutrition, and fill myself with motivation from other members - like YOU!! So, SP is not much of a time waster in my eyes.

Good luck finding the balance, Renee'!!!!

That is good news about your mom!

About your house...I will fly out and train you as my young jedi house cleaner/mess warrior.

Start your cleaning by:

Getting rid of crap. Clean out the bookshelves, etc. Have a yard sale, donate or trash the rest. I personally usually skip the yard sale and just for getting the junk out.

Asses the space left. You will be pleasantly suprised. Things will fit.

Now that clutter is out of the way, I like to dust, clean the glass in house, clean the bathrooms and kitche. Follow up by vaccum and mop.

I do clean my mircrowave and oven weekly. It's so much easier than the cleaning those things once a century like my mom.

Every month I clean the moldings on the walls and floors. Blinds too.

Send money for airfare, I will be Yoda, just cuter.

May the force be with you!

LOL! This blog made perfect sense up until the end when you mentioned how your clutter made your butt look big! By that I was like, "Wait, wha?" LOL!

I'm a clutter person too but usually, if I set aside something I know has to be done, I get it done just because I set aside the afternoon or whatever to DO it. I just have to put my mind to it and understand that I might be there all day. Which is why I don't do decluttering often but when I do it, I DO IT. And it is awesome, lol! :)

First of all -- I live by my mom's rule of thumb. Ask several questions ... #1 do I really need this #2 will I ever use it again? If the answer to either question is no then pitch it and do NOT retrieve it once it is thrown away!

Start small and do a little bit at a time. I also store things in clear plastic bins and take stock of them occasionally. If it is something I haven't used in a year, it goes. This really helps me get rid of stuff. The attachment to some things I keep is emotional but I live in a small house and don't have room for tons of stuff. I have to keep a handle on the piles or they will take over the house!! Recycle what you can.

BIG HUGS getting started. Start small and FINISH BIG!!

Love the new SparkPage, Pina Colada anyone?

Yeah, the Internet can be a huge time waster. If I worked out the same amount of time I was on the net, you would be able to bounce a quarter off of my very manly pecs, lol.

Write down what needs to be done, prioritize the order, crank up the music and dive right on in.

Bag up the extra books, clothes that don't fit or you haven't worn in 12 months and donate them, or if you have the time, sell them on ebay. Hey, every little bit helps.

No whining allowed, lol

Hang in there and keep us updated on your progress.

what's been going on...

Tuesday, February 09, 2010

My mom had surgery Friday and is still in icu today. She's in a lot of pain, so they have her on morphine, but not for long I hope. They had given her something called Toradol which seemed to work great without knocking her out, leaving her alert and aware, but it's hard on the kidneys, so they didn't want to continue with that. They are planning on trying to get her up today and may give her some broth. Things are looking good.

My daughter's incident Saturday was so sudden! While standing there talking to mom, dd15 just fell straight backwards, hitting her head on the bed in the other area (curtains seperating the areas) and then slamming her head on the floor. It was kinda surreal. I scooped down to her and sat on the floor with her while she got her bearings. the nurses were quick to come with a wheel chair and since she hit her head pretty hard (one nurse said the saw it bounce!) they wheeled her to the emergency room. They had to bring my family down from icu waiting to emergency waiting because they didn't know what had happened. Mel was ok, just quite shaken with a severe headache. I went back up to see mom while they all waited in emergency. Let her know Mel was fine and not to worry, then back down to emergency. they had taken her back to a small area where they drew blood, did an EKG, took a urine sample and then took her to have a cat scan. Everything came back good... so they said she had a vasovagal syncope, which is just your basic fainting episode brought on by a number of triggers. info here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vasovagal_epis

By the time all that was over with, it was after 4PM and icu visiting hours are 1-4 PM. :/

Her neck was hurting Sunday and a little Monday but now she is absolutely fine.

Sunday we went back to see mom. then yesterday I was going to go see here again and ... well, remember how I was wanting some winter weather, it came... north of us a little, but jsut enough to make the roads hazardous. :/ So I could not drive up there and when you call you can only speak to a nurse. Today I was planning on going up there but, in spite of nothing falling, the roads, I have been told, are still very bad and slick. I'm hoping the sun will melt it so I can go see her... I'm waiting to hear more. As for winter weather where I am... no, just rain. :/

More winter weather is in the forecast for Thursday and Friday and I have to work Wednesday and Friday, but can take off if I need to.

Well, that's it so far. Stress and frustration abounds. I also need to work my other part time job for a bit today but can't seem to get motivated... I'm working on that. I'm also expecting news about the roads. Waiting is the name of the game right now. And I have a headache. :/

Calgon take me away! emoticon

The same thing happened to my brother a few years ago. He was sitting with my mother in the emergency room and and WHAM he went right down. Something as your daughter they didn't find anything wrong with him. Just a Tasagareban I do fainted in the sun. I was about 10 at summer camp and we were at the beach. All of a sudden everything changed like i was looking at a black and white negative. I had a sudden urge to just fall a sleep and down I went. I'm sure your daughter will be ok probably the stress of everything.

I hope the weather holds out for you to go see your mother. Can't wait till Spring gets here!!

LOL a lot of people have been using that line lately, about Calgon. Before that I haven't heard it in YEARS!

I've fainted twice in my life, both times after sitting in the sun for too long. Seems I also have really low blood pressure and that had something to do with it as well. But it was an interesting thing to me because it really was like falling asleep. Except that it's so sudden. Both times someone was there with me and the second time either my dad or my bro caught me. The first time I just went down like a load of bricks, LMAO!

I hope your mom is doing much better! Your daughter as well. It's kinda spooky to faint but the worst part is the impact when you go down. :(

Hectic weekend

Sunday, February 07, 2010

Hey y'all, it really is a hectic weekend here. I found out Sat. morning that my mom had surgery Friday and was in icu, then while visiting my mom in the icu my dd15 fainted and hit her head so we had to visit the emergency room, turns out she's fine but just had a killer headache for a while. I'm back to the hospital today. (1.25 hr drive one way) and hopefully home early enough to get a bit of laundry done to see my son back off to college for the week.

My eating was BAD and I don't forsee it being much better today :/

Keep us in your prayers and thoughts and I'll elaborate more later on it al

my sick little girl UPDATE

Thursday, February 04, 2010

Thank you all!
Maria, Carly, Tasogareban, Kelly, Rainthief, Banuelos, Melissa, Sherrilou, Jane, Holly, your kind words and well wishes are so much appreciated!

I have good news... she slept all night with no episodes whatsoever and she is fever free this morning. She did wake with a "wierd" feeling tummy and was crying even, but that passed after just a few minutes, so I'm hoping it's just hunger pains... Seems this bout was just some 24 hour virus that is now over with. Thank goodness. I'll be fixing her a waffle or two here in just a few minutes and we're going to watch a Bob Ross DVD.. We love watching him paint!

thank you all again for your hugs and get well thoughts!

my sick little girl

Wednesday, February 03, 2010

Tuesday night was awful. What can you do for your child when she's throwing up? Not much other than support and a cold rag and drink and cuddles and love in between bouts. Bless her heart. We were up most of the night and I have no idea what caused it. Today she ran a temp of 102, but no more barfing (thank you, Lord)... and she's been eating crackers and sipping Dr. pepper and water. She has no other symptoms that I can tell. I gave her Motrin this afternoon and her temp dropped and hasn't elevated as high again so far. (Yay!) We will go to the doc tomorrow if she still has a fever, but it's looking like she's gonna be much better. It's looking like some 24 hour virus and I'm hoping it's basically over.

Just wanted to clarify my status update. :) Will post again how she is tomorrow.
