Yesterday was my last day of my first cycle on the Fast Metabolism Diet.
Over the past few weeks I have stuck to this diet, doing my best to follow it as written. I did make mistakes here and there... eating foods that weren't on that particular phase's food list, and not exercising... not hardly at all... but I did make sure to follow it as best as I could, and I drank all the water... 10 to 12 cups per day.
The results are:
March 17 - started at 223
March 24 - 211... lost 12 lbs that first week. We all know it was a lot of water weight.
March 31 - 210.5... only a half pound that week. Commitment kept me going.
April 7 - 208... 2.5 lbs lost that week. much better
April 14 - 205... final weigh in for the diet.
I lost 18 lbs in 28 days.
I LOST 18 LBS IN 28 DAYS! :) That rocks!!!
Yes, I am very happy about that!!
205 is the lowest I've been in over 5 years.
And I ain't gonna stop there!
Yes, I will be doing another 28 days starting April 21st. I'm taking "off" a week for a Mexican potluck here at work, and for Easter Sunday... but otherwise this week, I'll be pretty much sticking to the plan unofficially.
Now I just need to get the exercise part in there!!
No... I WILL exercise during the next 28 day cycle of the FMD.
What else has this diet done for me?
1. I am caffeine free. I haven't had coffee or cokes or caffeinated tea or anything with caffeine since March 17th... will I keep it that way? Yes, for the most part, although I will work in a square of dark chocolate now and then, and I've found some Swiss Water Process Decaf coffee. 99.9% caffeine free and 100% chemical free. Yum! Coffee again... but I'm not going to be a pot a day girl like before.
2. I have done just fine without sugar. I never ate a ton of sugar anyhow, but I even stopped using artificial sweeteners. I have been using Stevia when a sweetness was desired... most often fruit fixes my sweet need. But I will be allowing myself a little sugar now and then because there is a little bit in my chocolate! :)
3. I am much more diligent about reading labels and looking for artificial ingredients... If I don't know what it is, or if it's not something that naturally occurs in food, then I don't eat it. I now pass by junk foods or anything with preservatives at the grocer and see them as poison, and definitely avoid them. I found I don't have a hard time passing stuff by when it's laden with artificial stuff. It just does not appeal to me any more.
4. I can eat breakfast and not throw up! LOL! I used to claim that I just can't eat unless I've been up a few hours... but on this diet, you eat within a half hour of waking... I did it, and now I look forward to breakfast!!!
5. I can eat and still lose weight! I feel like I pretty much eat all day... breakfast, then snack, lunch, then another snack, then dinner... I try not to eat after dinner. Nighttime eating was becoming a very bad habit for me again... so I just nipped it. No eating after dinner unless it's veggies... like celery! :)
6. Weighing daily sucks, but I did it. during each week my weight would go up a pound or two before coming back down... very frustrating and worrisome, but in the end... I lost the weight. :)
My daughter did this diet with me... not as strict as I did it, she could not eat every 3 hours because she is in class and they did not allow her to have a snack at school... but she did get up and eat breakfast with me every day, she ate lunch every day and a snack when she got home... then dinner... then a snack later in the evening. She went completely off the diet for 3 days... 2 days back to back of pizza one time during the second week when she spent the night with a friend... then this weekend, she ate at Sonic... again, stayed with a friend and that's where they ate. When her friend stayed with her, she was able to stick to the right foods much easier... but I never fussed at her about the pizza or sonic because she was very good about hopping right back on this diet without a blink... .... oh, don't get me wrong... I did not forcer her to do this diet either. She had been going all day without eating then eating dinner and over eating at night and was not happy with her weight. I didn't want her to keep eating that way... nor did I want her to do the common teen thing and starve herself to try to lose weight. I told her about the diet and let it be her choice... and she said yes... and in spite of her "off" days... she lost 13.5 lbs! I am so proud of her!! It will be up to her if she wants to do another 28 days with me... but I think she will. I told her she didn't need to lose weight for anyone but herself.... and if she wanted to keep losing to do it in a healthy way. But as far as I'm concerned, she's perfect and I told her so... but I was a teen with a weight problem and I know how it feels... I just want to support her in a healthy way.

Progress. That sums up March in a single word.
This month I turned 49. I started a new diet. I lost a few pounds. My weight-loss-mode switch has been flicked "on" and I have been focused and motivated daily. I will not turn 50 still needing to lose weight!

Many of you know that I decided to try the Fast Metabolism Diet... due to the success of a couple of friends on here who have tried it... so I decided to give it a go as well. I'm committed.
I bought my book on Amazon and started reading it on March 12th. Wow.. it sounded so good. I am going to fix my sluggish metabolism in 28 days and eat plenty of food in the process... but wait, you have to eat only certain foods. No dairy, No wheat, No preservatives....
It's 3 phases per week:
PHASE ONE (Monday-Tuesday): Lots of carbs and fruits
PHASE TWO (Wednesday-Thursday): Lots of proteins and veggies
PHASE THREE (Friday-Saturday-Sunday): All of the above, plus healthy fats and oils
Here's a list of her rules:
It might sound like the "No" diet, but she explains why each thing is to be avoided and there are many more yesses on this diet!!! All REAL foods. It all sounds good... that is eating clean and can't go wrong there... but it proved itself to be kinda difficult for one who lives in po-dunk country. My first initial grocery shopping trip was a disappointment. I thought I chose simple to find things to make some of the recipes... not to be found! So the first week was tuff. No coffee (yes, severe headaches did follow and took a week to subside, I was a chocolate and coffee junkie!) No pizza on pizza night made me use my "thinker." I have made my food tracker available to look at if anyone is interested. I added notes along the way as well. But do not judge! You are not to count calories or carbs or fats on this diet, but I want to keep in the habit of recording what I eat. Some days are pretty low in calories, but I assure you, I did not go hungry. I ate basically all day long (every 3 hours.) I normally never ate breakfast, now I eat within a half hour of waking. then it's snack, meal, snack, meal.
This is a diet you have to learn to do and your have to pay attention to what you are doing. You eat certain types of foods on certain days in certain amounts at certain times. ... yes, it all has a little bit of leeway, but not much if you want to do it "right." I'm finding I like the structure and discipline of it. And the longer I'm on it, the easier it's getting!
So.. March 17th I began this diet. I weighed myself at 223 pounds. Yep. I had gained quite a bit back after my January loss... I mentioned that in my Feb blog. I was feeling pretty crappy about myself because of it.
So yeah, 223 lbs on Monday morning March 17, 2014.
Fast forward 7 days of the diet...
Today March 24, 2014 I weighed in at 211 lbs. Yep... a 12 pound loss folks!!! Wow.
I know, part or maybe even all is water weight. I don't care. It's weight... and it's gone. :)
And I have a confession to make... you are supposed to do 3 days of exercises as well... 1 day of cardio on phase 1, 1 day of strength training on phase 2 and one day of a relaxing activity (like yoga or get a massage) on phase 3... My cardio was trudging up and down the stairs at work... nothing more. My strength training was toting files and stuff from office to court room and back... and my relaxing activity was sitting on the couch watching a movie. What I'm confessing to is not putting much effort into the exercise portion of the rules of the diet. :/ I'm sorry to myself on that one.
So here I am on Week 2 Phase 1 Day 1... and I have the whole week planned as long as I get things cooked! :) I never was one who liked to cook much at all either. However, several of these meals are crock pot meals... and that I like. :) Easy.
I'm not expecting another 12 lb loss, but I do have hopes of a good loss, nonetheless.

Aloha! the advice I need is... how do I keep orchids alive? :)
Yesterday while we were out and about, my hubby bought me the most beautiful tropical blue orchid I have ever seen, actually the only blue orchid I have ever seen... is it the real color? I don't know, can they alter colors in orchids like they do carnations? Anyhow, I just want to keep it alive, but I don't have a green thumb, so any help and advice is most welcome! Here's a pic of it but keep in mind, this pic does not do the real thing justice.
So... how do I keep it beautiful and blooming, what do I do when these blooms fade or wither? The tag it came with says bright room, no direct sunlight, once a week set pot in water for 5 minutes, let drain off.... and that's it.
UPDATE: Just learned that these are color infused and will probably re-bloom white. I'm ok with that. This blue I'm enjoying now is worth it. :) Also, if it re-blooms at all it means I'm doing something right! I also found my orchid and care tips from the place that sells and grows them! Had I looked beyond the limited care tips on the tag, I would have found the website address which shared much more info and I could have spared y'all this blog. :)
Also, here's a pic of my little Daisy in her ugly Christmas sweater I bought her back at Christmastime. I had meant to put this up a long while back, but forgot about it. It's actually a little big on her, but I double up sweaters on her when it's cold outside, so she needed it a little big. :)
