My "GO TO LIST" of snacks

Friday, April 27, 2012

Lately I have been very good about being compliant with my nutrition calorie limits. But I haven't felt so good about some of the snack choices I have been fitting in there - for example, lower fat potato chips.

I have decided that in addition to not deviating from my calorie limits, I am going to to make it a point to eat for my body - for health - for fuel.

I have made a list of snacks that will easily fit into my program, and that taste good too! Now I don't have to resort to processed junk (at least in my mind it's junk) like yechy tasting super low cal popcorn, or tasteless fat free cheese (hello, how do they do that anyway, isn't cheese mostly fat????)

So here's the list:

1 cu diced watermelon 49 cal
Sm Apple -63 cal
Med Peach - 42 cal
20 Grapes - 39 cal
1/2 Grapefruit - 37 cal

Smoothie - 1/2 Banana or 6 large strawberries, fiber one vanilla yogurt, couple drops of stevia
Banana smoothie, 104 cal, 3.6 g prot., 6.4 g fiber
Strawberry smoothie - 71 cal, 3.4 g prot, 6.7 g. fiber

2 med stalk celery w/ 1 tea lowfat cream cheese - 23 cal, 1.1 g prot, 1.4 g fiber or
2 med stalk celery w/ 1 tea peanut butter - 44 cal, 1.9 g prot, 1.7 g fiber

Pistachios - 1/2 ounce (about 24) & 1/2 apple - 117 cal, 2.9 g prot, 3.3 g fiber

2 tbsp hummus w/ 2 saltines - 100 ca, 2 g. protien, 1 g fiber

1 piece (11 gms) ghirardell1 72% chocolate - 66 cal, .7 prot, 1/3 fiber

1 hard boiled egg - 70 cal, 6.3 g prot.

1 babybel mini semisoft cheese - 70 cal, 5 g prot.

3/4 cu Special K "Protien" w 1/2 cu skim milk, 150 cal, 14 g prot, 5 g fiber

1/2 Kashi Granola bar - 70 cal, 3 g prot, 2 g fiber

1 low cal whole wheat pancake (sparkreciepe) w/ 1 tbsp natural maple syrup
122 cal, 3.7 prot, 1.8 fiber

1/2 cu 1% cottage cheese w/ 6 lg strawberries, 114 cal, 14.6 prot, 2.5 fiber

Many of these items, besides killing the hunger until my next meal, feel just like a treat! Cheese, for example, always feels like I am cheating, and so does the chocolate. With a little bit of planning I can now eat healthy, lose weight, and feel like I am getting my favorite foods!

Lot's of great variety. Looks like you have all the "craving" flavors covered by a healthy alternative. Sweet, salty, crunchy, protein.

Awesome list of great snack choices. I have also found myself going for the not-so-good snacks, but I think I like your list better LOL. Keep up the good work!
