May devotional

Sunday, May 06, 2012

every first Sunday we have a devotional before Sunday school. I either need to find somebody to do it, or I do it.

all those folks who volunteered at the beginning of the year to take one of the devotionals have been unable to, so...guess what!

here is what I have planned for today:

poet Mary Rita Schilke Korzan wrote the following tribute to her mother:

When you thought I wasn't looking
You hung my first painting on the refrigerator
And I wanted to paint another.

When you thought I wasn't looking
You fed a stray cat
And I thought it was good to be kind to animals.

When you thought I wasn't looking
You baked a birthday cake just for me
And I knew that little things were special things.

When you thought I wasn't looking
You said a prayer
And I believed there was a God that I could always talk to.

When you thought I wasn't looking
You kissed me good-night
And I felt loved.

When you thought I wasn't looking
I saw tears come from your eyes
And I learned that sometimes things hurt --
But that it's alright to cry.

When you thought I wasn't looking
You smiled
And it made me want to look that pretty too.

When you thought I wasn't looking
You cared
And I wanted to be everything I could be.

When you thought I wasn't looking --
I looked ...
And wanted to say thanks
For all those things you did
When you thought I wasn't looking.

This is one of my favorite Albert Schweitzer quotes: At times our own light goes out and is rekindled by a spark from another person. Each of us has cause to think with deep gratitude of those who have lighted the flame within us.

please take time this month to let your mom, grandmother, aunts, and any other motherly women in your life know how much they mean to you.

happy anniversary, hon!

Friday, May 04, 2012

I called DH to ask him to pick up a bag of salad mix to go with dinner, and he said HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!

we BOTH forgot. He was talking to some folks at work and was asked how long we'd been married. He thought about it, and realized today is our anniversary.

He really should have known it was close...DH picked the wedding date to be close to Derby Day!

so, happy 12 years to Obie and Jack's mom & dad! emoticon

and happy Derby Day!

Happy Anniversary. It will be 20 for DH and I on August 14.

Funny, that (and the toilet paper) was his claim to fame. He consistently remembered our anniversary and I consistently forgot.

We are Mom and Dad to several animals. emoticon

Why sleep is important for weight loss

Thursday, May 03, 2012

I've been up since 4 this morning. I did 50 minutes of Pilates (with 2 dog resistance)

Jack (the lab mix) likes to give LOTS of kisses while I'm laying on the floor. Obie (the Golden) likes to provide something extra to push against by standing against whichever body part I'm trying to move. And he weighs about 90 lbs!

so...I was starving after my workout. Breakfast was turkey and cheese on one slice of whole grain bread. That was at 6. Of course I was hungry again fairly early. I had some Canadian bacon for my first snack.

If you eat a little something every 2 hours starting at 6 AM, you get close to the top of your calorie range way too early.

I did turn down the offer of a Krystal and some fries at lunch (the boss didn't want his last Krystal).

and I stayed in my range. I still have enough points for a piece of fruit if I get hungry before I fall asleep.

and I went to the park for a quick run on the way home emoticon

I have dog resistance here too. I thought I was the only one...he doesn't understand that I am not on the floor to scruff all over him. Then after all that work...he always needs a good nap. I wish I was MY dog!!!

another Boot Camp class wearing a wrist brace

Thursday, April 19, 2012

I've been doing exercises for carpal tunnel and my wrist is MUCH better. I wore the brace to class tonight anyway to remind me NOT to do anything that would hurt my right arm.

once again - planks, lots of planks. I did do much better with the triceps dips this time than I did on Monday.

and I picked up my Cheerios Challenge shirt for the race on Saturday. The volunteer shirts look great this year! Can't wait to see what the runner's shirts look like.

I have to be at the Y between 6-6:30 on Saturday morning emoticon

Great going Debbie! I hope you Carpal Tunnel eases down for you. I have that in both wrists. It isn't to bad, yet. It flares up when I over use my hands. The brace does help. Do you sleep with it on at night? That helps tremendously. Good luck on you race today. You will do just great. I know it. emoticon emoticon emoticon

Boot Camp class with a wrist brace

Monday, April 16, 2012

this is what happens when you're hard headed and don't listen when the Boot Camp instructor tells you to do planks instead of push-ups and give your shoulder a rest: the wrist on the other arm starts hurting.

I've been putting more weight on my right side because my left shoulder was bothering me. Still trying to do push-ups. Now my right wrist is killing me.

I've been wearing a carpal tunnel brace off and on for about 5 days (mostly to remind me NOT to use my right hand). I moved the mouse to my left hand a long time ago. The carpal tunnel exercises aren't helping this time.

I need to try doing them more often and see if that helps. They usually give IMMEDIATE relief.

Tonight during Boot Camp, I did as I was told: plank holds. LOTS of plank holds. I tried one time to do push-ups and realized quickly that it was a mistake.

only 3 more Boot Camp classes left in this session emoticon He'll start over in September.

guess I'll be slipping into the football stadium and running bleachers on my own for a few months.

Please be careful!! An injury could set you back a lot further! I wish you healing!!

    You know better than that.

When an injury is in play, you rest and let it HEAL. Pushing through just makes matters worse! You're lucky that you didn't make things even worse.

Take it back a notch, and focus on other parts. ;)
