I didn't feel like going to the gym after work. I just wanted to go home and go to sleep. I changed into my running clothes and decided to give it 15 minutes.

there's rain in the forecast and it was looking iffy, so I was going to try the treadmill. I walked .25 mile to warm up, then set my speed at a 10 minute mile. I made it to the first mile and increased my speed a little. 2 miles down.

I wanted to make 3.1 at a 10 min mile pace. I was having a tough time, and Young the Giant came up on my MP3 "my body tells me no, but I won't quit 'cause I want more!" Made it to 3.1 and walked again, then a bit more running, walking, running. I did 5.6 miles in 65 minutes.
My treadmill 5k time was 30:12 emoticon

I'm pretty happy to have held my 10 min mile pace for so long. Usually about 1.5 to 2 miles is all I can take at that pace. I'm feeling better about reaching my goal of a sub 30 5k this year!

    That's really awesome! I think I COULD run for 3.1 miles... but my shins won't let me. I think I'm going to have to break down and buy new running shoes.... *sigh*

sleeping in split shifts

I have recurring insomnia. My problem is more staying asleep than going to sleep.

for a while I tried to force myself to stay awake until at least 8 PM. That didn't really make much difference so now I just take my sleep when I can get it. When I wake up during the night I drink some chamomile tea and hopefully get drowsy again.

if I can't get back to sleep, I get caught up on my ironing

  I have discovered since I turned 55 that I feel better if I don't try to sleep too long at night. 4 to 5 hours at night is good and then a 2 to 3 hour nap during the day has eliminated my stiffness, head aches, morning stuffy nose, and my mid afternoon drowsies. I quit fighting it and just plan my life around it. I sleep from 11pm til 4:30 or 5am. then from 10am til around noon. I can't believe how much better I feel. No more frustration because I can't sleep, or wake up stiff or with head aches. No more worry that "I can't sleep".

    I know exactly where you are coming from, since I started menopause my sleep patterns have changed, I tend to take sleep when I can get it, lately it seems to be somewhat better but that goes in spits and spurts if you know what I mean. I'll be praying for you, I certainly feel for you as I am in the same situation...Hugs.. emoticon emoticon emoticon

Boot Camp was outside again tonight. Back to the football stadium emoticon

an Indian run (forward and backward!), push-ups, mountain climbers, wall squats, 6" and flutter kicks (I don't really care for laying in the grass), we hit the bag a little, ran bleachers, then our push-up / sit-up test. (Don't tell anybody, but he forgot the burpees!)

the instructor always offers an optional challenge at the end of class. Tonight's challenge was to run the entire length of the field, then run it backward, then repeat. So we ran the 100 yard dash 4 times (2 of them backwards).

did I mention that I did 25 minutes of spin as a warm up? I'm so glad that I didn't ride my bike to the Y tonight because I'm not sure I could have ridden back to my car!

I was up early this morning and feeling good so I did Pilates. The weather was gorgeous today. We've been kind of hot for this time of the year, but today was mild with a nice breeze. I went for a run at the park at sunrise.

as I was getting ready for church, I tried on a dress I hadn't worn in years because it was too small. Now it's WAY too big and in the Goodwill pile.

After church and lunch with mom & our church friends I got my bike ready for the year and went for a leisurely ride around town. I did get my heart rate up, but since I'd already gotten in 2 workouts this morning I wasn't too concerned about an intense workout.

Now that my bike is ready I can ride it to the Y after work instead of driving. That's another 20 minutes of cardio at least each time I go to the Y.

last year's running shorts

although it's early spring, we've already had some hot weather. I've been switching out my workout clothes. You see I keep all of my workout clothes in the trunk of my car. They go from the dryer back to my car. That's so I never have the "I left my gym bag at home" excuse to miss a workout.

It's time to remove the yoga pants and LS tees and move the running shorts and tanks to my car. There's a problem though. Last year's running shorts are really huge on me now. Some I can't even run in because the waist slides down as I run (no matter how tight I tie the drawstring).

My longer workout shorts seem to be fine. I've been wearing those to boot camp. Most of them are actually men's shorts. My husband HATES them, but I don't like to wear running shorts when I'm using the weight machines. I need something that is longer on my legs. I have one pair from Dollar General that he really despises. I admit they are pretty bad, but there's a story behind them.

One day at work I decided the weather would be great for a bike ride that afternoon. (I also keep my bike at the office. No place to ride near the house.) I realized I'd left my stack of laundry on the counter. I still had t-shirts, but no shorts or yoga pants with me. The only place near the office that sells clothes is a Dollar General. At lunch I went to DG. Nothing in the women's section, but they did have a pair of navy men's shorts that would work and they were cheap. Problem solved. Yes, they are hideous. I'm not at the gym to look pretty and hook up...I'm there to get fit!

I do try to look decent and like most gals, I love cute workout clothes. But they have to be the right price. I buy most of mine at TJ Maxx, Marshall's, and Ross. Off season you can get some good deals.

my running shorts are now too big? Oh well. Some problems are nice to have!

and I've given away all of my size L and XL tees. I have plenty in medium. I'm not going to need those larger shirts ever again!

    I had a victory this morning. I have a pair of khaki cargo pants that I love. I've been unable to wear them for a while, because they're not stretchy, so they don't have the forgiving waistband most jeans do these days.

I've been able to wear them for a while, with a slight muffin top.

Today? I put them on, with room to stick my thumb in, fresh out of the wash and unstretched, and no muffin top!

    Yea Debbie! I am so glad to here about your clothes being to big. Doesn't that make you feel great? I can't wait until that happens to me. I have a long ways to go. I am getting there pound by pound inch by inch. I am very proud of you. Keep going. emoticon emoticon
