Snow day and my back hurt...

So I didn't exercise much. I jogged in place for 3-5 minute segments in my living room and managed to accumulate 7100 steps.

Not too bad for a day when my back hurt. I laid on the floor with my legs up in my chair and became a cat couch too. Monty is a very loving purrfluff, but we still have not figured out the physics of his ability to concentrate every single one of his 14 lbs in each foot as he walks on us...

Anyway. It was sort of a rest day... the office wasn't closed, but I was afraid more of the other drivers than the roads and thusly stayed home.

I went over calories by 300... oh well, can't change yesterday... but I still ate TONS of veggies. But I got kinda snacky towards the end of the day... bah.

So today is a new day. And of course my pedo battery died today... so I will have to get that replaced in the next few days. I will also walk/run treadmill tonight to get some miles in. My back is also loads better today.

But it's so frakking cold out there that I just want to huddle somewhere under toasty blankies. Luckily the worst of this brutal cold snap is today and tomorrow... then we hit a balmy mid 20s on Sunday... break out your bikinis!

It's so hard to get motivated to eat right and exercise when it's like this outside. I go into retreat and hibernate mode... and the "don' wannas" come on and nag at me to just sit and knit. So I use knitting as a reward for getting up and moving... at least that was what I did last night. I'd jog in place for 3-5 mins and then sit and knit a row... then back up... I just started too late to get in my whole 10K steps.

Each day is a new challenge. . . I really want to hibernate until spring.

    I think it would take HOURS of intense knitting to equal a much shorter time on TM or jogging in place.

    She's right...knitting is on the calorie burning calculator thingy. So I'm NOT the only one with a wonky pedo now!!! I hate hubby's...no cal burn in it. ick..I like mine better.

    I don't think it really counts as exercise, but I read knitting burns about 100 calories per hour. emoticon

I have made it to 4 days straight of exercise... now to just make it 5 and I will have topped last week!

I also ate GREAT today. I made an amazing stir fry of veggies and tofu with a sauce of white wine, miso, dashi, water, soy, ginger & chinese five spice. I had it over brown rice and it was so so so YUMMY!

I had leftover quiche and salad for lunch. I was very careful all day.

Tonight my hips were a little sore, so I just walked 3.5 mph for 70 minutes on treadmill, took it easy based on how I felt. But still managed to top my 10K steps even though I forgot my pedo at work today.

I am wondering if I will go to work tomorrow since it is snowing like mad out there. We are only supposed to get around 5 inches... we have about 2 already... but it's the blowing and drifting they are predicting in the morning that concerns me more.

So I kept to my tracking of food and exercise today... we'll see what next week's weigh in says!

Honestly, I have been afraid to step on the scale here at work. They are checked for accuracy once a year by a fellow with actual weights that are meant to do just that. So our scales are accurate to 300 lbs+.

My home scale is much more forgiving... being about 4-5 lbs lighter than here... it is adjustable and I will adjust for the best accuracy I can have there.

So I bit the bullet... my weight is up to 151.8 without shoes, pants or scrub jacket (I can close the door to the room with the scale). So I have to bite it a little harder and lose this 10 lbs I have regained. I was doing great but the year of turmoil has made me let myself slide little here and a little there which led me right back to my bigger bad habits.

So Done.

I'm still in good shape and at a healthy BMI... but I need to reverse the trend that happened in 2009. I started 2 years ago at nearly 205... I just have to do what worked... it's not rocket science... DOH!

So here we go... I got over the fear of the accurate scale at work, I know the truth, now I just need to go forward with the knowledge and use it!

Push ups, still at 13/25 after a week of not doing them (was actually resting my shoulder a bit). Will do sit ups at home tonight. Ran .7 of a mile (0.1 per 5 mins) last night on the treadmill.

Working my way out...

    Sounds like you're ready to do what you need to do to get out of the doldrums. You know what it takes to get where you want to be, and I'm confident that you will do what you need to do.

    Sounds like my creep-up around my anniversary this year...hit 153...yup, I did...and got pissed and scared and even more determined to NOT go up anymore. YOU can do it...WE can do it...we ARE that 10% remember?

Congrats on facing that scale..ugh! It's done now..onward & upward!

PS - found my hubby's pedo...so far...very lame, very lame... emoticon

    Congrats on your weight loss from before. You did it then and you can do it again. Keep the faith. It sounds like you are starting off right. Just remember that weight loss/keeping fit is a life long commitment, not just a periodic thing.

But it's a new week! So we will just restart. I didn't count calories, but I did dust off my trust Leslie Sansone 5 mile walk last night... it was just what I needed, she was just what I needed.

I was amazed that I started with about 1350 steps on my pedometer and ended with over 10K! Go Leslie!

So I managed to do well for 4 days last week, blogging, tracking, etc. So this week I will go for 5 or more.n I brought Jillian Michaels Cardio Kickbox to do at lunch. Then if I can jog TM tonight... well, there you are.

There are no good excuses about Thursday to Saturday last week since I know what to do. But I'm also not going to beat myself up over it. I will just start again... I feel I'm still in the right mindset to get it done.

I have some nice hot tea this morning instead of my usual ice water... it's -3 outside and I can feel the cold creeping in through the wall to a certain extent... it's hard to really get warm once you get chilled through...

I spent yesterday knitting hats on a knitting loom... it was a nice change of pace. I gave one to my friend who had us over for lunch and hanging out... she loved it... and I kept one for myself... and wore it this morning... over my usual ski headband... my ears get so cold so easily... but in cold like this my whole head needed a layer of protection.

So a new week, a new year, a new decade and a new start... as every DAY is!

    Damn straight lady!! New year for sure! Remember when we used to walk to Pemberley and back again? Geez, that was almost 2 years ago!

I've done JUNK on my side in the exercise forum...I'm not even bothering to count the 10 squats yesterday that pulled my inner thigh out - LOL. So you see...you are ahead of the game in my book, even after falling down at week's end. Time to go back to baby steps...baby steps...no matter where we are, when we fall off. You'll get there...stay strong! emoticon

Actually, I have made it to day 4 of exercise. I'm only burning about 200-250 calories each day, but I am starting to rebuild my consistency.

Today was a treadmill walking day... but I am starting to put incline on that puppy, which according to the exercise tracker really pumps up the calorie burn. The other night I alternated 5 minute intervals @4 mph, flat vs. inclined... and the calorie burn for the incline walking was 66% more than flat!

So tonight I alternated 10 minute intervals and did 20 minutes inclined and only 16 flat (w/ 3 minutes each warm up and cool down @ 3.5 mph included in that total).

I'm using the longer incline intervals to build up my endurance for the longer running bouts that I will slowly increasing. I hope to be able to walk an entire 30 minutes and more on the incline soon.

So I will keep building up back to where I was when I hit goal in the fall of 2008.

I will be part of the 10% that keeps it off for good! I know what to do, I know how to do it... it's just staying on the horse and continuing the journey for life!
