Not a great week again...

My exercise so fell off the wagon this week, it's not even funny. Had a great start last Sunday, but I have a friend going through a crisis and she needed me several times this week... so I went to check on her 3 nights and got no exercise in those nights.

Now that we have gone to daylight savings time, I am going to make every effort to crawl out of my warm bed in the mornings to exercise, that way the bulk of it is done and I don't have to worry about it the rest of the day.

On the other hand, my eating was mostly under control this week, so... yeah.

But I can feel my butt and thighs getting thicker, though the scale shows no uptick... so I gotta get out there and move IT!

The Army thing is going to happen in its own time, but it's frustrating the crap out of me... sigh.

.just jokin, but not really. Thanks for the swing by here & on FB. I'm wearing my blue wool socks too :) A nap definitely made me feel better. I think my middle guy has got the flu...his head is spinning now and he looks like crap. He's been breathing on me constantly too...ok, enuf said.

OMG!!! I thought I was the only one who went thru the "thicker"feeling of body parts!!! You've got thighs, I got gut & back. Geez - will we ever get a break?!?!?!? Just keep on trying!!

Still nothing from the army? Crap! That IS very frustrating GRRrrrrrrRRR! Bet your paperwork is sitting on someone's desk again...and they have the flu because they didn't get vaccinated in time. Doh!

OK - chick...gotta go lie down.

What a week... H1N1, WIC & Camarilla, oh my!

This has been a nearly impossible week to get anything done, including exercise... had friends over two nights, which makes it hard for an evening exerciser to fit it in (waving hands madly). I also was borderline under the weather all week (just worn out and every time I would try to do what is normally no problem to me, I would just run the heck out of gas).

So I have not been exercising well all week, luckily my food was mostly under control... except for the huge indulgence I allowed myself on Wednesday... my old favorite Steak 'n Shake Orange Freeze... wow did that shoot my calories to the moon. Oh well, this was quite the week...

Work was non-stop ARGH!... Between H1N1 flu shots, calls about the H1N1 flu shots, triple booked WIC clinic, investigating 2 outbreaks: one shigella in a daycare and one foodborne @ a church supper, and getting the word out about H1N1 with the daily vaccine availability changes... yeah, well that was my week.

If there was a week I NEEDED exercise... this would have been it... but it was nearly impossible to get...

The weather here has turned UGLY... misty rainy cold and bleck to the nth degree. It feels like November... ICK!

So, tonight I hit the treadmill in earnest, determined to put in a full hour to random songs I have put on the "Go" list on my mp3 player. I kind of used the songs on the player to guide my speed. It really was fun and the hour went pretty fast...

    Good guess! Yes I am a public health nurse! Nice to know there are some people who actually have a clue about what we do!!

I'm glad of my treadmill... even with its strange speed-changing tendencies... just hold on tight!

Tonight is the last day of my short (5 day, which was part weekend) vacation... really it was a 5 day weekend. But it was very much needed. I have a pile of work to return to but that is okay... I feel somewhat refreshed and better equipped mentally to go back and dig in... and get ready for the flu shot season. Our seasonal flu shots have been delayed since our shipment didn't come in. We were supposed to have clinics all this week and had to cancel them last week due to NO VACCINE... I just hope the old folks weren't rioting or burning nurses in effigy or something. It looks like we may well have the H1N1 before the seasonal supply arrives... or we will be giving them concurrently.

Anyway, I had 5 days off, Thursday of last week through today. My friends came down from Chicago and we all went to a science fiction convention together and had a great time. It was nice to relax and commune with fellow nerds. I didn't exercise much on Friday per se, but we walked all over the place in downtown Columbia, showing Sarah the town. Saturday I did treadmill. Sunday I didn't exercise either... that was driving back from St Louis day. It was fun to wander around in costume, see way even more amazing costumes, attend panels on writing/publishing/etc, go to the Buffy the Vampire Slayer Musical Episode Sing Along, see old friends, and so on. I took a nap in the hotel room on Saturday afternoon, but that was okay by me... it was all good.

Also got to go shopping since I had extra birthday spending money... I bought myself a beautiful pair of oak leaf earrings in bronze, a bronze necklace with a small celtic knotwork medallion ( www.honecksculptures.com ) and a print of a baby dragon with his tail wrapped around 4 baby chicks ( jek2004.com/1049-chicks.jpg ). Shopping at a science fiction/fantasy convention is similar to renfest shopping.

Today I got Ketta & Sarah on the bus and tonight I did my 3.35 mile route running/walking and managed a 4.67 mph pace. I am working to stretch my running longer and longer. I want to be able to run the whole route soon... but as the weather gets colder and the days get shorter, I will be increasingly pushed indoors onto the treadmill. Sniff... I really love being outside. It really is time for me to start getting Army Strong! I am up to a solid 17 push-ups now and even did 19 the other day.

Considering that I was at the convention and not counting calories, I think I did pretty good. I also tried to keep the body moving as much as I could. I was very still on the day I didn't exercise, so keeping moving is very important to me.

The battle of the fleas continues... it's been awful. We have bug bombed, but it only did so much good. We will be bug bombing again and vacuuming assiduously in the days that come... we will lick them, though it is tempting to burn down the hut, as Mark says...

I finally heard from the Army, apparently a glitch arose in a switch to a new computer system that does the background/security clearance checks... but my recruiter contacted me today to get the extra info he needs to get everything rolling finally. Apparently hundreds of others got caught in this... so it will get fixed.

My daughter continues to do well, she is just busier than the proverbial one-armed paper hanger! She is working 2 jobs and doing school... her medications are helping her stay on an even keel and it's wonderful to see.

Not sure what else to say right now. Things have calmed down considerably.

Isn't it always the way? You are waiting and waiting and waiting....and it's a computer clitch!! emoticon God works in mysterious ways...you had other things to do while you were waiting...important things that had to get done, so really, in the big picture, it was not time wasted at all...well, except for the fleas...that is the one thing he could have held back on! emoticon

Have a great work week!! The 5 dayer was a blessing...now it's time to tap into your inner zen nurse goddess! Bring on the shots!!!!!

The days of summer are changing over to fall... I can so feel it in the air. I love fall, it's my favorite season and it seems that my life seems to get a new kick each fall, a new energy, the time to go in a new direction...

I really feel energized to get my good habits back on track today. I grabbed an apple instead of the snickers bar this morning, though I did allow myself the candy a little later after I'd eaten more fruit. I am not someone who does well with total deprivation. So small pat on my own back today.

An oldie but a goodie spun up on my mp3 player today while I was out running... it's "Shell Shock" from Pretty in Pink... not sure of the band, but it's a great song and apart from the good steady beat, part of the lyric struck me... "Hold on, it's never enough, it's never enough until your heart stops beating... the deeper you get, the sweeter the pain, don't give up again until your heart stops beating..."

That is what this journey is all about, whether you are still trying to lose or maintain... you just cannot give up! It's worth it: the time, the work, the effort because it's all about creating a healthier you for yourself AND those who love you. And it's not just about getting physically strong, it's about mental and spiritual strength too. And you know, it's perfectly OKAY to take that time for yourself since it's good for those around you too.

I know that if I'd not taken this journey to get my body in a healthy place last year, this year may literally have killed me. I wouldn't have been able to cope with the emotional and spiritual challenges (both good and bad) that have been flung at me this year. I've had a hard time coping from time to time... but without being able to fling myself into exercise, I would have lost my mind.

So, it's fall, I will be running outside until the weather forces me to stay in on the treadmill.

Up and down, up and down we go!!! and you are so right because IT IS SO WORTH IT!!!

Every little bit we do is a big plus in the end, especially for the people we love.

The journey really doesn't end with maintenance... it would be so nice if it did.

I haven't exercised all the minutes I would like... and I have eaten way more than I should be.

So again, back on the horse. I can do it.

Yes - back on that horse you go! Phases are a part of maintenance - don't you DARE beat yourself up over it either! Remember, you are ARMY strong and tough!!
