Football Fanatic or Active Lifestyle

Sunday, October 21, 2012

I am well aware of how fanatic fans can be about their football afterall, i used to start watching football thursday night then friday if games where on and saturday college and the nfl on sunday and nobody misses monday night thats a fan right? I reside in ohio, i went to high school that has the second longest rival Dover vs New Phila....pretty big football state....and i am a steeler fan sorry brownies ....so why brag about my addiction to football ....two reasons one is to accumulate the time we are spending watching others exercise and the second is how did i kick the habit

I know that i am getting ready to attack something sacred to many so please read with an open mind and not crucify me til the end....here goes

The amount of time i spent watching football is what i want to focus on because if you are good watching one game a week (your favorite team) then thats in moderation and acceptable ...but lets look at my past : 3 hours / Thursday, (leaving Friday out for balance), 10 hours / Saturday, 9 hours / Sunday, 3 hours / Monday.....totaling this is approx 25 hours...again to make this article apply to the masses lets round down to 20 hours per week for the average Fanatic.....I think immediately we can see the first problem ...this is a very non active lifestyle!
Not to mention most guys i know are putting down the beers during some of this time, need i say more.....

20 hours per week for lets say 15 weeks (trying to stay conservative) 300 hours per season roughly...this was my past and based on monday talk at work the next day listening to coworkers recite every bad call, one handed catch, brain smashing hits and cheerleading outfits oops i mean what the coaches did wrong ....well i wasn't alone....how many bike rides and hikes and kayak trips did i miss to watch other people exercise....Fall is my favorite time of year yet I was ok with letting it all go bye me, chips and salsa in hand!

Now, I don't know about you guys but I am not even sure how I could find that much time watching football now days but lets continue...How did I kick the habit like the browns punting AGAIN!....sorry maybe a little steelers fan still resides in me ......well, first off I wasn't happy about the hall of fame game getting cancelled because of millionaires fighting with billionaires over money.....sorry this is a personal pet pieve of mine ...while they were busy figuring out their contracts ...they had to of cost Canton, Ohio (stark county) some serious revenue...25 minutes fom my city...so This was the catalyst that started a new future...My personal boycott on football was well unhurting to the NFL but made me feel better about my perspective on life and money. I saw less than one quarter of football last year ...COLD TURKEY....guess what was the first thing I noticed? More time with the family an immediate reward....then I ditched cable and got a smart TV ...now I only watch netflix and amazon movies and hulu network but no football still....this amounted to me doing 15 events (and one to go) this year...from 5ks to 24 hour race (i mean 11hours and 4 minutes) another fantastic reward.

I really struggle with writinig this blog cause most people care more about their football than politics, diet, job, well in my neighborhood...ANYTHING.....but to conclude if you have an addiction to football that may be increasing your inches around your waist, then maybe it's time to look for reducing the amount of time watching those snaps.....i thought i would miss it, i really did.....at poker night the guys are often talking about the games and well frankly don't miss it at all.....I just am so grateful for getting healthier, running awesome races, and spending all those Sundays with the family that it is all worth it.....

Final Tip : Moderation....enjoy some games but if you are neglecting areas of you life to watch East Detriot Community College V Harvard State at midnight cause it's the only game on well Put Down The Remote go to bed and go find a 5k tomorrow.....

Extra Final Tip : record the games skip commercials or do lunges and dumbbell curls while watching...or if its superbowl...record the commercials skip the game lol

I have always been a football nut. The NFL turns me off now.. don't watch much of it .. maybe few minutes to check the scores. Mostly i keep up on Yahoo Sports tho. My biggest thing is NCAAF but considering how they go about rankings and favor the media popular teams even that is a bit of a turn off. Amazes me how a team with a loss or a very weak schedule can come ahead of other more deserving teams. Maybe I am finally out growing it? at last to a degree? Slowly but surely pulling away from it all.

Saturday, October 20, 2012

All day today i have heard lots of people say they don't celebrate sweetest day because it is a fake holiday and created by the card companies....SO WHAT...it's a good excuse to do something with your significant other and do something special for them.....is it really that bad of a thing? i know.....everyday should be special right (no, my relationship is not new lol)....almost 6 years later and i admit i have not had enough special moments cause of work or just plain ole busy ....so take time to enjoy the other person that has to put up with you lol just my two cents

fast food calories

Saturday, October 13, 2012

My family has been trying to make healthier decisions when it comes to eating and well we have done great job cutting out pop and fried foods and eating more veggies.....however, we are not perfect and with our busy schedules still end up using convenience...ugh hum fast food....now we try and pick the best stuff they have but honestly even their best choices are not that good...for fun recently we picked two of our favorites and checked the numbers.....I'm not going to publish the restaurants or the numbers but let's just say we were very surprised for two reasons ....first the sodium and fat was way more than we thouht they would be for the items we picked and then we checked what the kids would eat ....is it chicken nuggets or chicken nuthings .....wow so glad we looked don't think we will be so trusting of the "healthier choices" anymore ....second , we checked the items we used to eat and omg.......glad I'm not getting 3000 mgs of sodium in one scarred down meal anymore .....anyway the reason I didn't give specific details is because I am challenging anyone who still dines at these heart killing "convenient" places to pick your favorites go online today and check their numbers. My guess is you will prolly stop visiting as often. Thanks and have a great day

I sympathize with you. My family loves to go to Burger King. And by "loves," I mean that before my husband and I got married five years ago, they were going to BK at least twice a week because of its convenience. Anyway, I got a copy of their nutrition facts while I was there over the weekend and while I wasn't completely flabbergasted at the amount of calories and fat in some of the items, I was still quite shocked. The breakfast platter? 1450 calories! That's my calorie range for the day! The Cinnabon minis weren't much better.

I did turn all of this into a positive learning experience. The kids and I played "Guess How Many Calories." They were shocked as well, so I'm hoping that I showed them the importance of paying attention to what they eat as they grow older. emoticon

It is really scary... but moderation is the key. I honestly don't know I could live without my greasy fries once in a while.

I tend avoid these places as much as possible and it is easy now that the kids are all grown up. But yesterday DH wanted a Wendy's burger and I was to pick it up for him, I decided to get a grilled Chicken sandwich (350 cal)and a regular serving of french fries of which I ate 1/2 tracked ( 209 cal) and salt is no small change either. Just with these two I was out by 559 cal and within two hours I was starving. That is my fill of fast meal for a while. We really need to be educated consumers. Thanks for a lovely blog and the alarm. emoticon emoticon

I am on an elimination diet. I am avoiding all those kool-aids with the high fructose corn syrups.

that is one of the advantages of tracking - it makes you face the nutrition in these foods.

Have a great day

I've avoided fast food for several months now, just for that reason. Yes, it's delicious, but when you look at the lack of nutrients and the abundance of sodium and fat--just not worth it.

I totally get being busy, and I hope you find a way to eat healthy with your schedule. Have you tried planning menus (breaking up your favorite recipes into "weekday" and "weekend"--depending on how long they take to make) and shopping once every two weeks for the ingredients?

we all deserve this

Friday, October 12, 2012

In life we will always have temptations, nay sayers, and weaknesses.....our job is to overcome...sometimes it will be easy and other times it will be a challenge and we will have to dig deep inside of ourselves to arrive at our point of destination...looking forward as we picture the future us using actualization techniques to imagine our perfect weight or fitness level , let's remember that the road is the lifestyle not the destination ....make the lifestyle the road and the results will show up....maybe not tomorrow maybe not next month but keep plugging and doing and enjoying that new Lo cal meal, or fitness routine you have fallen in love with....maybe that t-shirt from your first 5k walk or jog or pb.....this journey is exciting, lively and fruitful.....someday you may feel like quitting but remember YOU DESERVE THIS

people helping people

Thursday, October 11, 2012

I was just wondering why the world is the way it is ...at what point did we decide that greed and hatred and selfish behavior was the way to live our life and treat others...if you don't know what I'm talking about maybe you don't read the newspapers....I don't anymore I quit years ago....why? I didn't want to live in a world where war, selfish death, murder, etc dominated my existance....I know I can't be an ostrich and put my head in the sand..but I also don't need to have it in my face everyday...I know the ugly of the worlds exist and I can worry about it or maybe I can live in a different world.....this year I raised money for st judes, a foundation I strongly believe in, I always give my change at the gas station to the jar to help someone in need (everytime) even if its 98 cents , I am no saint I just try to make daily giving a part of my life ...earlier this year I bought a total stranger their breakfast just to do it ....made my day and I never introduced myself so I could not take credit or be thanked ....later I challenged a coworker and they did the same.....many of you have prolly watched the movie PAY IT FORWARD and enjoyed it as entertainment but how many have actually tried it.....I challenge everyone to give today or by the end of the week even if you feel you dont have the money ...I do not have lots of money I just think if we all focused on giving instead of taking the wars and murders would.be reduced ...far fetched? After PAY IT FORWARD please.go watch the BUTTERFLY EFFECT....people helping people join this club it is well worth it ....challenge your friends to do it also ...we can continue talking about all the things in the world or we can start doing random acts of kindness ...yes go watch EVAN ALMIGHTY....I love when movies have messages but how.many of us are really hearing them.....thanks again for anyone that took the time to read anything I write.....
