Feeling Refreshed

I am glad to say that I am back on track. I have no idea what got me here. It might have been the vacation and getting away from all my responsibilities. Whatever it was, it is good to be back. I feel refreshed, invigorated and ready to start Sparking.

It has been easier to exercise since I joined the “SparkPeople's Official Virtual Walk/Run Challenge.” I talked my brother, SIL, DS, and DIL to join. We are all on the same team. Even though I am the oldest, I don’t want anyone to get very far ahead of me – preferably not at all ahead of me ;-). Do you think that I’m competitive? I have to increase the amount of walking that I am doing by quite a bit to catch my brother and son.

I am enjoying the Western Slope June challenge. I am finding it very encouraging to be able to report the good things that I am doing. It is keeping my focus on the positive actions instead of the slip-ups. I also like my June motto which is “I am a winner!” Just typing that in posts several times a day is changing the way that I think.

June is going to be a good month!!!

    Don't you love it when you feel really into it? I just wish I knew what got me feeling back in the groove, so I could bottle it for the next time:-)

I'm glad the Walk Across America is helping you walk. It was really helping me, too - maybe I need to remember about it:-) I've been struggling lately with my exercise.

Good for you for getting your family involved! I'm also the oldest and I'm not competitive, either:-) emoticon

A very excited blog, doesn't feel good. Glad to see you got your family doing it. I went over 2000 miles the other day, wrote my blog on it and today ( saturday,) I will walk into Colorado.
It has been so much fun. So for you and your family congratulations and enjoy the walk. By the way, sometimes when I was coming to a town, I would google it, we pass some nice little towns. emoticon emoticon

Motivation

I have decided to read something motivating every morning to start my day on the right track. Today I read DONNA999's journal. The following is a quote.

"I've always been a good planner and scheduler. It's one of my strengths. I decided that I was going to take the time to PLAN my food a day early and then stick with my plan. Again, a simple thought but then no one ever said eating healthy was complicated.

That night and every night since, I have created my food plan for the next day. I scheduled three meals and two to three snacks for work. Worked to ensure that there were at least two fruit and two veggies and two dairies every day. I also vowed I would drink my 8 glasses of water BEFORE I drank a single coke.

I've stuck to my plan like cement glue to paper. If I wanted to eat something not on my plan, I went to the computer and adjusted the food before a crumb crossed my lips. If I could eat the item and stay within my calories and fat and carbs, then I would eat, if not, not."


When I get back home, I am going to start planning my meals. Today I will get in at least 30 minutes of exercise and drink 8 glasses of water.

I am going to take GS out to lunch. Took my two GD out to lunch the past 2 days. It is fun to have one on one time with them. It has been a good vacation.

Tomorrow we head for home - Home Sweet Home. It is fun to go but always good to get back home.

    I find planning ahead is almost magical in how well it works!

A planning ahead tip for going out: Most restaurants have thier menues, with nutrition facts, on their websites.

CREDITS
I am drinking more water – usually 8 glasses a day.
Eating more fruits and vegetables – was 1 or 2, now 3-5
Exercising – was 3-5,000 steps a day, now 5-10,000 steps a day.

Negatives
Binge on sweets when I’m tired and tell myself “I don’t care”.
Sometimes I’m just too lazy to exercise.

Desires
Loosing weight is not my main desire. I want to be healthy and have more energy. I want to find something else to tell myself besides “I don’t care” that really means something to me. I read the e-mail yesterday and again today. It has hit home but my mind is rebelling against thinking. I do NOT want to prevent action but I don’t know what action to take.

Another sparker said, “I don't know if I have the energy to start another life!” That is where I am at right now.

Another quote “I felt as though I was going off track in my determination to be healthy and making positive decisions. This has reinforced my decision to remain focused and positive.”


What we think is what we become.
I am taking this to heart and am going to focus on what is inspiring to me. I believe that if I had not written all of this down, I would not have gotten past the feelings of helplessness and giving up. I am going to start a list of positive quotes, ideas, goals, etc. to focus on when I am tired or feeling down.

I needed sunshine in my life today and that is what I have found.

    You got it again, Yvonne. What do we do on those days when we really just don't feel like it, when we don't care, when we're withdrawing from this and perhaps other things in our life? How do we prevent it? I try to be positive most of the time, but there are days when I just withdraw. I need to find something to help prevent it - and to get me back in the game quicker when I DO choose to withdraw. ACTION! That's what life is all about. That's what gets us where we want to go - in whatever it is that we want.

    Wonderful and inspiring post. I am going to keep this one handy where I can read it when my get up and go takes a hike. I really try to keep the people who surround me on a positive path. I tend to choose friends who have a positive attitude

Cleaning and reminiscing

I'm busy cleaning. Getting ready for my brother and SIL to come and be with Mom while we are on vacation. I'm so fortunate that they are willing to come from Florida to give us a break.

I cleaned kitchen drawers yesterday. They look so much better. I don't know why things can't just stay organized LOL. Today is bathroom day - yuck. Then tomorrow they will be here and Thursday we leave for our sons and family. Looking forward to seeing them again.

Our oldest GD is 17. One more year and she will be out of high school. That doesn't seem possible. They grow up so fast, especially when you don't get to see them very often. When she was 15 and had her learners permit to drive, I took her out and let her drive. We went exploring. She didn't scare me too bad LOL. Actually she did quite well. In town, she got a little too close to parked cars but no scratches. I think she has it planned so we can have some time for just the two of us. Many wonderful memories.

Our other GD is 15 and our GS is 13. We are taking our GS to Disneyland in July. We had previously taken each of the girls on a vacation by themselves. Such good memories.

But enough of that. I have bathrooms in front of me!!!

A very nice blog, but you did remind me, I need to clean the house, the cleaning lady is coming tomorrow and I don't want her to see the mess emoticon. Time does fly. I have been in florida almost 17 years, my grandson and and one grand daughter were about 4. Now they are 21 and I have a granddaughter that will be 16. I really never got to see them grow up. It is great that you will be able to spend time with your family. Enjoy it.

    I know they do grow up fast, my baby grandson is 16 years old, and the oldest is 23, and a father himself, unreal, so enjoy them and like you said make lots of happy memories.

    Yvonne, enjoy your grandchildren every second you can ~ they grow up too fast!
My oldest grandson is 30 and the youngest is 21 and it makes me wonder, "Where did the years go?"

It's wonderful that your brother and SIL will stay with your mother so you can go visit your son and family! Enjoy your visit with them, come back feeling refreshed and happy and energetic. Although from the sound of your blog, you ALREADY are energetic! emoticon

    Isn't it amazing how quickly things become unorganized?:-) I'm sure you're looking forward to seeing your brother, even if it's just for a day or so before you leave for NE. It's nice that you have great memories and plans, too, to think about while cleaning - helps the time go by faster:-)

Goals

A spark friend asked me today what my goals are and if I am continuously setting new small goals for myself.

Coincidentally, I was cleaning the bathroom today and pulled my goals that I had set in March off the mirror. I was surprised to read them and realize how I had "forgotten" them. Here are the goals and the only one that I have kept is drink 8 glasses of water 95% of the time, spend time with God each day 99%, and keep a positive outlook 85%.

I am going to rethink my goals and make them more doable and try to look at them more frequently than once every two months. Is it any wonder that I stopped loosing weight. I guess I thought the pounds would just fall off because I belong to Sparks and set up some goals..

In thinking about my goals, I don't want small ones. I feel like I should be able to do a lot more than I am on a consistent basis. Then I get discouraged when I don't get it done. I need to make some changes, but I don't know what.

3/22/10 This week my goals are:
Exercise at least 20 minutes a day x 6 days
Drink 8 classes of water a day.
Eat 5 F/V a day x 5 days (3 for 2 days)
Walk 7000 steps a day x 6 days
Clean office 30 minutes a day.
Spend time with God each day.
Keep a positive outlook

I may not get it done before we leave on vacation Thursday, but I WILL get it done.

    That is on aspect of my 'plan' that I've not yet fully (or maybe at all) developed. The goals. I know I need to, I know it will be benificial, but .... I really hate lists, thats the excuse i keep using. Stupid - I know. Hmmm... I wonder what other method I could use to set and track my goals, that does not include a list....

    Sounds like a very doable list, I have almost all of them in my "track other goals" Your last 3 are not on my set goals, but, I do try all of them daily, and as far as losing weight goes, I just seem to be at a plateau, and I know it will bust through soon, so will you. emoticon Mary

    Yvonne, you're right - you may have started a bit too optimistically (I always do that, too:-). It's so good that you're going to take time to reevaluate your goals. If you get it done before vacation, fine, and if not, that's fine, too. I'll echo Monty - if you have a hard time remembering to do them, once you determine what you want them to be - add them to your Other Goals page so that you can track them here. You'll get the added bonus of getting sparkpoints, too:-)

I'm glad you give yourself credit for meeting some of the goals, too - it's good to see what we DO as well as what we don't do:-)

    Hi Yvonne
A very interesting blog. If I may make a couple of suggestions and comments. I think that the goals you set up are realistic and in my opinion should be a part of ongoing goals. Each has to do with healthy living. In fact, the steps walked if 7000, could be over 20 minutes and are counted as an exercise also. Are the others like water and F/V being met, or is it a little high to start with. What I would suggest, if you put them on the mirror, you should see them, if you use that mirror. When you track spark points, there is one called track other goals and you could add all these goals to it and then track it. And if you are having a difficult time remembering or doing, I would be glad to send you a daily reminder. You also could set that up by adding it as an appointment and have it show up every day as a spark notice.
What ever I can do to help, let me know.
