Are You As Busy As You Think You Are?

Sunday, November 04, 2012

A couple of Sundays ago DH, DS, DIL and I were sitting around the table after dinner and I asked for help. I felt like I had too much on my plate, busy all the time and not getting things done that I wanted to do. DS asked me what my priorities are. That made me stop and think about what I am actually doing and what is most important to me.

I wonít give you the list that I came up with but loosing weight and being healthy was up there close to the top. So I am putting what I eat and donít eat and exercise second on my list of things to do every day. Staying within my calorie range comes before any sweets, not that I ate a lot of sweets but I would have a treat every day, one that was not high in calories. It has made a big difference. The scale is going down and not roller-coastering.

I found an article this morning that you might be interested in reading Are You As Busy As You Think You Are? Here is the link to it.

We can do this if we make it a priority.

Yes, indeed! Good point! Our action show what are priorities truly are ... It's easier to talk about losing than to make healthy choices. Only one of those will bring results!

I totally understand about the treats. Somehow I think I can't go a day without a treat. I've really got to get out of that habit because I am not on the losing side anymore. I have gained about 5 pounds over the past couple of months and I really don't like that. I've got to get things under control. It has been particularly hard the past couple of weeks with company and hunting. It will be good to get back into a routine for a while.

Awesome blog! I say I have no time to do things, but I know it's an excuse. I waste time, procrastinate, and all those things, when I need to get down to business. Thanks for the kick in the pants. I'll be making my own time sheet this week to see just how many hours I waste. I've done this before, and it has helped in the past. I need to prioritize and get things done again.

Back to my "busy is not the same as active". Still have the same hours in the day but spend a lot less of them sitting. Get up earlier to compensate for my computer time and READING, SEWING, NEEDLEWORK, have been replaced with LISTENING TO BOOKS WHILE WORKING OUT, WALKING SUGAR, HOOPING, AND YOGA. Do I miss the other? Sometimes, and I use them for a break but they are no longer a priority!

That was a really great blog and an interesting article. I know I spend too much time on the Computer and need to improve the amount of time I spend exercising; I may try that time and motion study just to see where my time is spent. I imagine it will be an eye opener, especially if you calculate the amount of time spent sitting at work, home, watching TV,etc. emoticon

Good blog. I too didn't think I'd be able to find more time for more exercise, let alone tracking food intake and since I've made it my priority it's all fallen into place.. sure some days the floor doesn't get swept until later in the day, but it doesn't really matter! Thanks for sharing.

I have read many articles on how when you slip up on your eating instead of giving up and really blowing it just forgive yourself and get right back on track. When I read those articles I know that I donít do that. I donít get upset and eat more I just get back on track right away.

Well, yesterday I went to the gym and worked out and then went grocery shopping. By the time that I got to the store I was starving. I looked around for something that I could eat right away. What I found was oatmeal raisin cookies. I opened it and had one for only 130 calories. That was okay. I could still fit it into my eating plan. I finished shopping and let the clerk put them in the bag with the other cookies Ė I mean groceries. It was tempting to put them in the seat next to me lol.

Got home fixed a good dinner. After dinner DH got a cookie and asked if I wanted one. I said no Ė yay me. After awhile I heard those cookies calling me, and calling, and calling. Finally I said one more wont hurt, it is just one day. So I had another one of those yummy temptations.

Well since I had blown the day, guess what I had before I went to bed. Yes, you guessed it, another one of those wonderful, delicious, yummy temptations.

I guess Iím not as good at getting right back on track as I thought I was. Today is another day and I have been wondering what to do with the rest of the cookies. I was thinking about sending them home with my GS but DIL picked him up at McDonalds so that is out (I had a salad with grilled chicken and 1/2 package of Balsamic Vinaigrette dressing).

This morning when I got on the scales I was 1 pound lighter than when I weighed on Saturday. When I at those cookies now, hey donít look at all tempting. I have worked hard to evict that pound and I will not do anything to put it back on. My goal is to loose 1 pound a week and those cookies are not going to sabotage me!!!

Way to go, Yvonne! It sounds like you still don't have the same problem that some of us do - after all, you did only have 3 cookies instead of the whole bag:-) We all have different issues, don't we?

You're doing GREAT!!!!

Thanks for posting this blog. It made me see that I am not alone in these struggles. A few weeks ago, I'd had a streak of eating really healthily, so I figured that I would be able to handle a little bit of temptation. So, I bought a bag of Halloween candy -- it was Pretzel M&M's in little fun-size packs. I knew that my calorie limits would allow for 2 little packets of M&Ms per day. Well -- that didn't work at all. I ate a ton of them the first day.

But, I learned. Even if I'm eating fairly well now, I know that I can't keep that kind of food in my house. Actually, I re-learned that lesson, because I thought that I'd been cured of temptation, but clearly I haven't been yet. So now we both know better. :-)

Have a happy and healthy weekend! emoticon

I started the 5% Fall challenge back on 9-28. I just weighed myself this morning, I dropped 2lbs.
Yeah! My motivation is coming here and being with my Spark friends.
I am eating healthier everyday all thanks to you and the others.
Keep doing the right foods and it will help you.
Blessings for your daily journey,

Part of Our Bible study discussion and the teaching DVD today focused on dealing with temptations. She talked about "hanging around" temptations rater than fleeing. About the justification we can make the way we can talk ourselves into "little" dalliances.
She reminded us that temptations are universal (we'll all have them) and temptations are ESCAPABLE! God promises that He will Always provide a way of escape! Rest assured, Yvonne, He is able to keep you from stumbling, but He won't take away your free will. When we fall on our knees in weakness and humility, we arise with His strength and the pure heart that overcomes our struggles with our oh-so-human frailties!

It is kind of funny I should read your blog about temptation right now. I was just in a co-workers office and she grabbed a fun sized Butterfinger out of her candy bowl and started eating it. Butterfingers are one of my favorite candy bars, those and Reeses Cup, basically anything with peanut butter and chocolate, sorry I digress. Anyway, I was giving her a hard time about eating it in front of me. I am no longer able to eat anything that has white sugar in it because it give me migraines and other issues. I had an Atkin's Peanut Carmel bar in my lunch box that had been calling my name all morning. I came straight to my office and got it out and was eating it while logging in to SparkPeople to log in the calories and I saw your blog post. I hope your blog helps me to not feel like I've blown it for the day and eat anything and everything in site. That's what I usually do when I give in to one of the Atkin's bars unless I'm using it in place of a meal. Thanks for helping me stay on track and your continued support.

I doubt three cookies will totally undo all your hard work for the week. We all have our up and down days. I think it keeps our system confused so maybe it won't know we had too many calories in one given day and still let us lose a little bit.

Arches National Park

Friday, October 12, 2012

Monday we went to the Arches. This is one of my favorite places to go. Here are some pictures from there.

Landscape Arch. It is 360 feet long and the longest arch in the park

We saw several of these little friends. This one stayed still long enough for us to get his picture.

Fiery Furnace. The park gives guided tours through these rocks. Neat tour.

See the face?

Double O Arch

Fall 5% Challenge

Thursday, September 20, 2012

I have never done a 5% challenge before and am excited to get started. I am also concerned about whether I can do this.

This is a pre-challenge activity, so here goes.

Why do I want to loose weight?
Be healthier.
Get down to a healthy BMI.
I want a stomach that doesnít bulge.
Get rid of my high cholesterol medicine.
I want to have my picture taken without hiding behind someone.
I want to live life to the fullest.

What do I want to change?
Be more flexible.
Have more energy.
Be stronger.
Eat more fruits and vegetables.
Loose 1 lb a week.
Tame my sweet tooth.

What things will you be able to do in the future with a slimmer healthier body?
Wonít huff and puff so much or not at all.
Have more freedom of movement.
Be able to go and do whatever I want to do.

And list all the OTHER things that you want to change!
I want to be a good example for others
I want to have ONLY things we love and use in our home.
