Arches National Park

Monday we went to the Arches. This is one of my favorite places to go. Here are some pictures from there.

Landscape Arch. It is 360 feet long and the longest arch in the park


We saw several of these little friends. This one stayed still long enough for us to get his picture.






Fiery Furnace. The park gives guided tours through these rocks. Neat tour.

    Cool pictures! I really need to get there. I didn't know there were 2 arches in sight of our town until last year - one you can only see from on the river and the other from a helicopter. nature's architecture!

    The pictures are much appreciated from this North Central Pennsylvanian who is enjoying the bountiful artistry of deciduous forets in the fall. It's nice to see what the rest of the country has to offer.

    My DDs love the national parks. I don't know if they drove through Arches or not last March when going from CA to WI--they were going to go to Grand Canyon but it was too snowy and those roads were closed to them. Beautiful picture!

Fall 5% Challenge

I have never done a 5% challenge before and am excited to get started. I am also concerned about whether I can do this.

This is a pre-challenge activity, so here goes.

Why do I want to loose weight?
Be healthier.
Get down to a healthy BMI.
I want a stomach that doesn’t bulge.
Get rid of my high cholesterol medicine.
I want to have my picture taken without hiding behind someone.
I want to live life to the fullest.


What do I want to change?
Be more flexible.
Have more energy.
Be stronger.
Eat more fruits and vegetables.
Loose 1 lb a week.
Tame my sweet tooth.

What things will you be able to do in the future with a slimmer healthier body?
Won’t huff and puff so much or not at all.
Have more freedom of movement.
Be able to go and do whatever I want to do.

And list all the OTHER things that you want to change!
I want to be a good example for others
I want to have ONLY things we love and use in our home.

    Great reasons Yvonne and you'll experience more changes than you can even imagine! I know hula hooping wasn't a thought for me 10 years ago! Wearing single digit sizes wasn't either! The healthier you get, the better you feel, the more you do and that transforms you!! You're off to a great start!

    You are well on your road now!!! I joined the 5% summer challenge. It was my first time. I am back for the fall challenge. I found that I did lose some weight, which being close to maintenance was a biggie. But of course, I gained some back. The challenge helps you to keep on track. The weekly weigh ins are good too. You don't want to disappoint the team. Good luck.

Spark Coach

I’ve joined Spark Coach for the free 2 weeks and then did the 99 cent month. I needed something to get me motivated again and that is just what it is doing.

This is one of the screens that we fill out every day. I started out not doing very good but the last couple of days I did 4 on everything. That is so gratifying. I love being able to post uplifting information in the highlights. Now I want to start checking off 5’s. It is making a big difference in what I am eating. I enjoy exercising and have been picking that up too.

We are going to visit family for Christmas and my goal is to loose 6-8 pounds by then. Before joining I was doing good to loose 1/2 to 1 pound a month. I know that I can do this.

    I did it, too, Yvonne - for the same reason:-) I will admit that I haven't done so well this week - but it's the first time in my life I've had FOUR doctor's appointments in one week and I'm also working extra to make up the work time lost. I feel like I'm drowning - it shows me that I REALLY have to get some good habits set up to take care of me, whether I have a lot going on or not.

Woo Hoo!!! We CAN do it. I look forward to you being down those pounds by Christmas!

    Yvonne -Hope the SparkCoach is a great motivator for you! I signed up for the 2 week trial too - did great for the first three days - then the weekend came and it just wasn't a habit at that point. Guess I better get back on to finish the last 4 days of the trial period.

Increase Your Willpower

I just read an article on things that increase your willpower and things that decrease your willpower. Some things like being tired decreases willpower and it explained why that is so. Another one was why willpower increases when you are busy but not stressed. These are just a couple of the ideas in it.

Step-counters

I have a Fitbit step-counter that I love, but it stopped working just before our vacation. I grabbed an old one out of my stash and have been wearing it. I am positive it doesn’t count all my steps so last week I checked it out. I took 40 steps and checked it. It said zero – 0 – zero steps, oh no. I dug another one out and took 50 steps. What do you know it said 50 steps. My step count the last few days has risen a lot.

I called the Fitbit company and they are sending me a base station. It transfers my active time and steps automatically to my computer. Will be glad to when it is working again.

    I so sympathize! I wear my pedometer all the time! I even keep a spare battery as I don't like to be without it. It is one of my best motivators to keep moving! I know you'll be glad when it is working properly again! Be well.
