New Month, New Start

Thursday, March 01, 2012

I love the start of a new month. March is going to be a great month. There is St. Patricks Day, first day of spring, and daylight savings time begins. Love it when the daylight lasts longer.

Woke up this morning to snow. Great big, beautiful flakes. Won’t be going anywhere today. DH had to shovel the sidewalk. First time this winter.

Let’s see, how will I get my exercise in for today? I have to get some time in since my goal for the month is 1000 minutes. Last month I had 750 so it is doable. I have had only two 1000 minute trophies in 2 years. I am determined to get my third one this month. Now to get back to what I am going to do today. We have a circle I can walk through our house which I do when I need to do 5-10 minutes. I also have Wii Fit Plus which is fun to do. I got the SP Boot Camp DVD, but she moves too fast for me. I also have Just Dance which is fun. I enjoy doing things that are fun. I will probably do a couple of those things today.

We are baby-sitting our grandson this morning. He isn’t feeling good but our DIL had to take their foster baby to an appointment. We are watching Dinosaur Train, his favorite. I like it too lol.

Got to get up and get moving now.

February Update

Saturday, February 25, 2012

I can't believe February is almost over. I have enjoyed the Feb. Exercise Brag and Boast topic. I love seeing what others are doing and it encourages me to keep moving. You gals are awesome.

Yesterday I went through more of Mom's things. That is an emotional roller coaster. It does brings back a lot of good memories but I miss her too. I didn't get any exercising though. I had a streak of 11 days straight going. Spark Guy wouldn't think much of that (lol), but I am pleased with it. Have to get back on the bandwagon today.

Good job Yvonne. I think 11 days straight is a good deal. Heck, the way my Feb went, I would think 2 days straight would be good :(

It must be very difficult to go through your mom's things. I hope you're coming across a lot of things that can bring good memories and a chuckle now and then.

Kept my exercise up this week. My eating is starting to come under control, making better choices. That is so encouraging. All in all, I’m pleased with my progress this month. I don’t expect perfection, just progress. My weight stayed the same and that is okay. I’m excited about how things are going this week and looking forward to weighing on Saturday. I know, I have four more days to go, but the first three have been very good as far as my eating goes. Am going to the gym today, yay!!!

FOOD
Limit sweets to 2 a day. – Had a total of 15, one over my 2-a-day goal.
One fruit every day. – 0.
Drink 8 glasses of water a day. - Did good on this one.

EXERCISE:
Exercise 5 min. 6 days a week. - Got my 6 days done!!!
Do 160 minutes of exercise this week. – should have left it at 130. I had 127
Do the January Daily Exercise Challenge 6 days a week. – 0

Week 3 Review

Monday, January 23, 2012

emoticon Why am I having such a hard time with my eating? It is depressing! Went over my calories on four days. I exercised hard at the beginning of the week and then went home and binged on sweets. I know that when I am tired I snack more and it is usually sweets. That has to change. Another thing that has to change is not overdoing. Saturday when I went to the gym, I didn’t push as hard. I did workout a little longer and burned almost the same amount of calories but wasn’t as tired. I also put over a lb. back on last week.

emoticon My exercise is going pretty good. Will keep that up. If I binge on food this week, it will be popcorn and not sweets. Looking forward to a better week.

FOOD
Limit sweets to 2 a day. – Fell off the wagon this week. Did log my food and couldn’t believe how much I ate.
One fruit every day. – Had 1 orange this week.
Drink 8 glasses of water a day. - Did good on this one.

EXERCISE:
Exercise 5 min. 6 days a week. - Got my 6 days done!!!
Do 130 minutes of exercise this week. – Did 164 and will set 160 as my goal
Do the January Daily Exercise Challenge 6 days a week. – Did 2 days.
Stretch after working out. - Did good.

SPIRITUAL: Continue reading through the bible. Done

EMOTIONAL: Take some time for myself every day. I have been taking time to read every day.
Start a gratitude journal. – Nope

HOME: Spend at least 30 minutes cleaning five days a week. Doing good on this.

Hi sweet Yvonne, I so appreciate your honesty and struggles that you share. The strongholds in our life are aptly named aren't they? I just got done making a batch of chocolate chip cookies under the guise of having some fresh ones when my son comes over with a friend to pick up our truck...and of course I had to taste test them. More than once! It sounds like you are doing well on the exercise goal you have for yourself! Fabulous! I am wondering why you are having one fruit/day? Is this to cut down from the natural sugar intake, or are you trying to up your fruit intake from having zero per day? Praying this week will go better where you want it, and those triggers will dissipate for those nasty (but good tasting) sweets!

Joy!
Julia : )

I know what you mean about sweets. If they are in the house, I will eat them. My granddaughter has had type 1 diabetes since she was four, ten now. We all became aware of sugar/carbs then. I have the Russell Stover sugarfree candies in the house and that is what I eat now whenever I want something sweet. I learned to eat tiny bites so it lasts longer. She taught me that. They come in several different varieties. Hope this helps. Sounds like you did a great job with the exercise. Keep up the good work.

You've got a plan - and haven't forgotten it. I know what you mean about the sweets. My problem is the mindless eating - a handful here and a handful there - pretty soon it's gone and I don't even remember enjoying it! emoticon

Good luck with this next week!

Congrats on all the "Done"s I see! Know the sweet trap too well! Find some sweet indulgences that are portion controlled and healthy, too! I like a "trail mix" of almonds, dried blueberries, with just a few dar chocolate chips. 1/4 C. Of that is a great mid-morning pick-me up! Vita tops are another sweet way to get high fibre, high protein in 100 calories! You can do it! emoticon

All in all....you are doing great!!! Some things just act as triggers and I wish i had an answer for you on how to fix that!! My big downfall is nuts....any kind. I try not to eat salted ones, but the sweet ones aren't any better.

Yvonne, If I focus more on activity; I think less about food. But, those things that trigger me, including sweets, I still; probably never will, can't keep in the house. I enjoy them elsewhere. "They talk to me"!
I love what you are doing; reviewing your week, looking for a better way. You will get there, just keep it up.
Even if you are eating something that's not in you plan, for me, it works to write it down BEFORE you eat it. Don't let yourself slip into mindless eating. Mindless eating=a binge.
Making sure I get enough sleep is important too; remember HALT:

Hungry
Angry
Lon
ely
Tired - - - things that let us slip into excuses and unhealthy choices.

Be well and don't give up! Hugs

Sounds like a really good week to me too. I'm curious, why just one fruit a day? I can understand not overdoing anything but that seems pretty restrictive for a healthy food. Keep up the good work!
