Have you ever...

Tuesday, March 06, 2012

One of the teams I am on is doing Have you ever… Today I posted Have you ever chased a hot air balloon. It brought back a lot of good memories. One day Mom and I were on our way back home and we saw a balloon that was coming down. We took off after it. We could hear them talking to their ground crew.

Another time I heard a balloon right after I got up (you can hear them when they turn the fire up). I told Mom to hurry and get up and put her housecoat on. We got in the car and went down to the school, about a half mile away, and sat in the car and watched them. What fun.

DH and I went to the balloon festival in Albuquerque. That was an amazing experience. We had to get up at 3:30am to get to the park by the time they launched at 7:00am. By the time they started going up the road into the park was backed up with cars for a mile or more. We were standing near a balloon that was heating up and boy did that fire feel good. I couldn’t believe all the different shapes that were there. There was trucks, bottles, cows, stagecoach, arks, buildings, the old woman in her shoe, plus all the regular balloons in many colors. What a beautiful sight. At night there was a balloon glow. When they all light up their balloons it is awesome.

Yvonne, hot-air balloons have gone over our house a couple of times too. One year (about 10 yrs ago) the VBS theme was a hot-air balloon trip. We were able to get a ballonist demonstrate his balloon for the kids - it was lots of fun.

    Hi Yvonne
Thank you for sharing this. I love hot air balloons and have years ago followed several balloons. When I lived in Pittsburgh , we had a huge show every year . Here in South Florida, I don't recall seeing any balloons. maybe its the weather.
Glad you got to share this.

The Albuquerque Balloon Festival is awewone. I went about 30 years ago when it was just getting started and it was awesome then I would like to go again to see how much it has grown. We have a couple of small events near here and I alway go at least one time every year with the grandsons. Even though they are small they are still awesome.

Yvonne, you are very lucky to be that close. I love to see them in the air when they are having their annual balloons festival in a couple towns away from us.

Green Eggs and Ham

Saturday, March 03, 2012

Yesterday was Dr. Seuss' birthday. Had a meeting at I-Hop and they had Green Eggs and Ham. The scrambles eggs had creamed spinach in them. I'm game to try different foods even though I don't care for cooked spinach. They were delicious and so was the pancake in a waffle cone. In fact, they were so good I kept my 3 GD's overnight and took them there for breakfast today. Kids are so interesting. One said she would go if she didn't have to have the green eggs. She tried them and like them. One wouldn't even try them. The other one got them and didn't like them - she is a real picky eater so I wasn't surprise. Had a fun time anyway.

I'm not big on cooked spinach either (barely wilted is OK) but I find if I chop it first and add to other dishes (like tonight's spaghetti sauce) it is fine. And I like the fiber-rich results! Keep trying new things! And keep building those wonderful memory times with grandkids!!

Hee Hee! Yvonne; I am so glad that YOU tried the spinach on the green eggs and ham. Plus you encouraged your grandkiddos to try something different too! You are an adventurous grandma!

I do not like them here or there
I do not like them anywhere!
Not in a boat, not in a plane
Not even on a train!
But wait! I shall try them at I-Hop!
Maybe I will not, will not stop!

(I took poetic license here on trying to remember something from the book and adding my own words too!)

Joy!

New Month, New Start

Thursday, March 01, 2012

I love the start of a new month. March is going to be a great month. There is St. Patricks Day, first day of spring, and daylight savings time begins. Love it when the daylight lasts longer.

Woke up this morning to snow. Great big, beautiful flakes. Won’t be going anywhere today. DH had to shovel the sidewalk. First time this winter.

Let’s see, how will I get my exercise in for today? I have to get some time in since my goal for the month is 1000 minutes. Last month I had 750 so it is doable. I have had only two 1000 minute trophies in 2 years. I am determined to get my third one this month. Now to get back to what I am going to do today. We have a circle I can walk through our house which I do when I need to do 5-10 minutes. I also have Wii Fit Plus which is fun to do. I got the SP Boot Camp DVD, but she moves too fast for me. I also have Just Dance which is fun. I enjoy doing things that are fun. I will probably do a couple of those things today.

We are baby-sitting our grandson this morning. He isn’t feeling good but our DIL had to take their foster baby to an appointment. We are watching Dinosaur Train, his favorite. I like it too lol.

Got to get up and get moving now.

February Update

Saturday, February 25, 2012

I can't believe February is almost over. I have enjoyed the Feb. Exercise Brag and Boast topic. I love seeing what others are doing and it encourages me to keep moving. You gals are awesome.

Yesterday I went through more of Mom's things. That is an emotional roller coaster. It does brings back a lot of good memories but I miss her too. I didn't get any exercising though. I had a streak of 11 days straight going. Spark Guy wouldn't think much of that (lol), but I am pleased with it. Have to get back on the bandwagon today.

Good job Yvonne. I think 11 days straight is a good deal. Heck, the way my Feb went, I would think 2 days straight would be good :(

It must be very difficult to go through your mom's things. I hope you're coming across a lot of things that can bring good memories and a chuckle now and then.
