Week 3 Review

emoticon Why am I having such a hard time with my eating? It is depressing! Went over my calories on four days. I exercised hard at the beginning of the week and then went home and binged on sweets. I know that when I am tired I snack more and it is usually sweets. That has to change. Another thing that has to change is not overdoing. Saturday when I went to the gym, I didnít push as hard. I did workout a little longer and burned almost the same amount of calories but wasnít as tired. I also put over a lb. back on last week.

emoticon My exercise is going pretty good. Will keep that up. If I binge on food this week, it will be popcorn and not sweets. Looking forward to a better week.

FOOD
Limit sweets to 2 a day. Ė Fell off the wagon this week. Did log my food and couldnít believe how much I ate.
One fruit every day. Ė Had 1 orange this week.
Drink 8 glasses of water a day. - Did good on this one.

EXERCISE:
Exercise 5 min. 6 days a week. - Got my 6 days done!!!
Do 130 minutes of exercise this week. Ė Did 164 and will set 160 as my goal
Do the January Daily Exercise Challenge 6 days a week. Ė Did 2 days.
Stretch after working out. - Did good.

SPIRITUAL: Continue reading through the bible. Done

EMOTIONAL: Take some time for myself every day. I have been taking time to read every day.
Start a gratitude journal. Ė Nope

HOME: Spend at least 30 minutes cleaning five days a week. Doing good on this.

Hi sweet Yvonne, I so appreciate your honesty and struggles that you share. The strongholds in our life are aptly named aren't they? I just got done making a batch of chocolate chip cookies under the guise of having some fresh ones when my son comes over with a friend to pick up our truck...and of course I had to taste test them. More than once! It sounds like you are doing well on the exercise goal you have for yourself! Fabulous! I am wondering why you are having one fruit/day? Is this to cut down from the natural sugar intake, or are you trying to up your fruit intake from having zero per day? Praying this week will go better where you want it, and those triggers will dissipate for those nasty (but good tasting) sweets!

Joy!

I know what you mean about sweets. If they are in the house, I will eat them. My granddaughter has had type 1 diabetes since she was four, ten now. We all became aware of sugar/carbs then. I have the Russell Stover sugarfree candies in the house and that is what I eat now whenever I want something sweet. I learned to eat tiny bites so it lasts longer. She taught me that. They come in several different varieties. Hope this helps. Sounds like you did a great job with the exercise. Keep up the good work.

You've got a plan - and haven't forgotten it. I know what you mean about the sweets. My problem is the mindless eating - a handful here and a handful there - pretty soon it's gone and I don't even remember enjoying it! emoticon

Good luck with this next week!

Congrats on all the "Done"s I see! Know the sweet trap too well! Find some sweet indulgences that are portion controlled and healthy, too! I like a "trail mix" of almonds, dried blueberries, with just a few dar chocolate chips. 1/4 C. Of that is a great mid-morning pick-me up! Vita tops are another sweet way to get high fibre, high protein in 100 calories! You can do it! emoticon

All in all....you are doing great!!! Some things just act as triggers and I wish i had an answer for you on how to fix that!! My big downfall is nuts....any kind. I try not to eat salted ones, but the sweet ones aren't any better.

Yvonne, If I focus more on activity; I think less about food. But, those things that trigger me, including sweets, I still; probably never will, can't keep in the house. I enjoy them elsewhere. "They talk to me"!
I love what you are doing; reviewing your week, looking for a better way. You will get there, just keep it up.
Even if you are eating something that's not in you plan, for me, it works to write it down BEFORE you eat it. Don't let yourself slip into mindless eating. Mindless eating=a binge.
Making sure I get enough sleep is important too; remember HALT:

Hungry
Angry
Lon
ely
Tired - - - things that let us slip into excuses and unhealthy choices.

Be well and don't give up! Hugs

EXERCISE:
Until I feel better, I will do 5 minutes a day. Did pretty good on this. Will change this to 5 min. 6 days a week.
Adding the following: Did 88 minutes of exercise this week. Will increase it by 30 minutes this coming week.
Do the January Daily Exercise Challenge. - Will change this to 6 days a week.
Stretch after working out. Did good.

SPIRITUAL: Continue reading through the bible. Donít have a problem with this one. Enjoy it very much.

EMOTIONAL: Take some time for myself every day. I have been taking time to read every day.
Smile frequently. I donít have a problem with this and will remove it.
Start a gratitude journal. - Missed 2 days. It is more of a regular journal with at least one thing that I am grateful for every day. Enjoying this very much.

HOME: Spend at least 30 minutes cleaning five days a week. I have been enjoying this and getting extra minutes. Never thought I would enjoy doing housework lol.

I have the same problem with fruit, I have it in the house, and I like it but I'm just not good at eating it. Something I've been doing that helps is I plan all my food a day ahead, making sure to include some fruit in either my meals or snacks. It really helped me this last week.

Yvonne, You have a plan and that's a great start! Love your list. Having goals and moving in the right direction will get you there, even if you have to change the route along the way. Without goals, you're not moving and don't get anywhere! I eat a lot of fruit; everyone has to figure out what works for them I guess. Counting calories and exercise minutes works for me. I like how your list includes things for a totally balanced LIFE. WTG!

January 2012 Goals

Friday, December 30, 2011

We can meet our goals through small victories. It is the small everyday decisions in life that will get us to our destination. Yesterday I choose a side salad instead of french fries. I also walked down the aisle of reduced price Christmas candy and decided I didnít need them in the house. Two victories in one day.

It is important to remember our victories. It is what we focus on that is important. I am posting my January goals around the house to be sure I donít forget to do them every day. I have also made a spread sheet to check them off after doing them.

My goals for January 2012:

FOOD
Make a healthy food choice every day.
One fruit every day.
Drink 8 glasses of water a day.

EXERCISE:
Until I feel better, I will do 5 minutes a day.
Do the January Daily Exercise Challenge
Stretch after working out.

SPIRITUAL: Continue reading through the bible.

EMOTIONAL: Take some time for myself every day. Smile frequently. Start a gratitude journal.

HOME: Spend at least 30 minutes cleaning five days a week.

Post my goals where I can see them every day.

Revisit my goals at the end of each week to see how well they're working for me. I wont wait for the entire month to pass before I evaluate my progress or add in a new challenge

Iím excited and looking forward to the New Year and a fresh start. Here is to loosing weight and getting fit in 2012.

Great start to 2012 Yvonne! I love check lists and they help me all the time! I have a chart that I keep right here at the computer to check off or record my daily progress; either to track here, or just for me. It does give me the chance to look and evaluate. Because there's always something new I want to try and I can't do it all! Goals and flexibility can work together. You are on your way to finding your healthy balance. Happy New Year!

Mom

Saturday, November 05, 2011

I wanted to let everyone know that Mom passed away yesterday. It was a day of joy and sorrow. Sorrow for those left behind and joy that she is where she wanted to be - with Jesus. God has been such an important part of her life. One of her favorite sayings was "God is so good." And it was almost always for the little things that I would have overlooked. She was a real blessing to us during the time she was with us. She lived with us for 13 years and even in the last couple of years, during failing health, she was a bright spot in our lives. She had a ready wit and a lovely sense of humor. She will be greatly missed.

I will be off-line for awhile. Family has already started coming in. Looking forward to celebrating Mom's life with them.

Love you all,
Yvonne
