Mom

Saturday, November 05, 2011

I wanted to let everyone know that Mom passed away yesterday. It was a day of joy and sorrow. Sorrow for those left behind and joy that she is where she wanted to be - with Jesus. God has been such an important part of her life. One of her favorite sayings was "God is so good." And it was almost always for the little things that I would have overlooked. She was a real blessing to us during the time she was with us. She lived with us for 13 years and even in the last couple of years, during failing health, she was a bright spot in our lives. She had a ready wit and a lovely sense of humor. She will be greatly missed.

I will be off-line for awhile. Family has already started coming in. Looking forward to celebrating Mom's life with them.

Love you all,
Yvonne

Yvonne and family - You were so fortunate to have your mother with you for so many wonderful years. And she was very blest to have been able to stay with you for 13 years. I know you and your family will be celebrating a wonderful life and exchanging many memories. I know your heart is heavy but knowing your mother is celebrating in heaven will help ease the hurt.

    Dear Yvonne,
May the Lord of peace, joy and HOPE be yours, as you celebrate and grieve the loss of your sweet mom. She is enjoying God's goodness in eternity. You blessed her life by caring and loving her; especially the past 13 years. She seemed like a special woman; just like you. May God hold you close and enjoy the memories of your mom as you gather with your family.
God is good!

New Motto

Saturday, October 15, 2011

We watched the Biggest Looser the other night and I found it very encouraging. At 72 I would be in with the seniors. Bonnie is struggling but she isnít quitting. Before biggest looser, she would maybe get the treadmill up to 1.5 and Anna pushed her up to 3.3. She didnít think she could do it but she did and was elated.

Ten years ago I would do 3.0 with short spurts of 3.3 on the treadmill. Wednesday I did 2.25 miles at 3.5 with spurts of 3.9. It is amazing what you can do if you keep pushing yourself a little bit more regularly.

As I was coming out of the gym I read this on their message board, which is my new motto:
Bite of more than you can chew and then chew it!

We joined the gym one year ago and I just keep pushing a little farther. It is great to look back and see how far I have come in one year.

September Goals

Friday, September 02, 2011

I need to start setting goals again and get back on track. July we were gone on vacation and it has been very difficult getting back into a routine since getting home. Not to mention how tired we were when we got back home. Mom's days are up and down and I have been stressed out over that. Sometimes it is harder on her good days because she thinks she can do more than she has the strength for. Hospice is wonderful, as much for me as for Mom. They are a big help both emotionally and physically.

I am turning over a new leaf and getting back on track. Looking forward to a good month. Here are my September goals:

Eating: Track everything I eat on paper and put into the tracker at least 3 times a week.

Exercise: Strength training twice a week and gym twice a week. Stretch 5 times a week. I know that isnít enough aerobic exercise but it is a start.

Spiritual: Continue reading through the bible. Memorize Phil 1:7-11

Emotional: Need to get rid of some of the stress in my life so I can get the sleep that I need. Put the computer down and read or listen to music in the evenings.

Home: Give Momís room a thorough cleaning.

emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Have a good month.

A great list Yvonne! I love that you are looking at the "whole you"! I was neglecting the aerobic part of my fitness too; accepting that 3 ten minute sessions of aerobic walking was just as good, if not better, at reving up my metabolism as one 30 minute session has helped me a lot. I think spreading it throughout the day helps too. Now, with these short spurts I get at least 60 minutes in a day without ever leaving the house; just loop from one end to another! It's also a great stress reliever and I sleep like a baby! That said; I know I don't have the stress you are dealing with and I'm so glad you have hospice involved to help. They are wonderful. Be well. Hugs, Joy

You have set some challenging yet achievable goals. I tend to set goals for just eating and exercise and neglect writing goals for the spiritual, emotional and home. You've inspired me to take a closer look at those areas of my life for goal setting as well. I try to have a daily list of what I want to accomplish. Now I think I will be expanding on it.

Life is Good

Wednesday, August 17, 2011

Had an appointment with my trainer this morning. Mom got up early and I got everything done for her before I had to go. I got to the gym a little early to do the treadmill and warm up before we got started.

When the trainer got there I told her I want a routine that I could do at home. I am unable to get to the gym much anymore. I also let her know that I needed stretches to do after working out. She set me up with a real good workout for me. She wanted to know what I have been doing. The only thing is push ups for my SP challenge which I didnít think that I have very good form. She had me do the 2 that I do and said I have good form. Yay.

I have 5# weights at home so that is what we used. I was surprised that I could do them. I had decided before I saw her that I was going to work my muscles till they were tired and that is what we did. Iím tired tonight, but it is a good tired.

I had met with JR Monday and we had a nice visit and a good walk. It was so good to meet another Sparker who knows what I am going through. I felt so motivated after our meeting. I have started logging my food again. I didnít realize how much I have been eating. Thanks JR for the encouragement.

Another motivator has been Hanna from a team that Iím on. She started a challenge where we do 1 push up the first week, 2 the next week, etc. We are on week 2 and I found that I CAN do them. Thanks Hanna.

Glad to be on track again!!!

I'm so glad you were able to get a workout routine you can do at home - good for you for seeing the reality of your situation and for coming out and asking the trainer!!     Yvonne, it is so good to read this! I was heavily involved in caregiving for both my parents before they passed away (15 yrs ago for Mom, nearly 4 for Dad). During both seasons, I put on a lot of weight. I didn't take care of myself at all, and just comforted myself with sweets and junk food. I really am happy to see that you are working out and watching your intake more! Taking care of yourself will give you more energy to care for your Mom.

Hooray for the new workout from your trainer, for her "good job!" on your pushup form, and for connecting with a fellow Sparker! Keep it up! Your diligence will pay off!

Nebraska Trip

Thursday, May 19, 2011

Our GD graduated from high school last Saturday. It was a long, cold, rainy, snowy, windy drive to get there but it was worth it. Our son and his family went with us in their car (they have 5 kids). It was a beautiful graduation. In the middle of it each student brought a rose to his or her parents. Lots of hugs and tears but it was really neat. There were 30 kids that graduated.

On the way home we stayed all night in Denver and then went to the zoo. There is a lot of construction going on which should be finished next year. I think every grade school student in Denver was there. Had a good time. Rode the train and the carousel. I even got one that went up and down lol.

I gained 3 pounds in 5 days. Have been having problems with my eating for several months and just havenít been able to do what I know I should be doing. For the last 3 days my calorie count has been near the lower end of what SP allows. I got the book Made to Crave from the library and was reading it on the trip to and from the graduation. It must have been what changed my attitude. Iím so glad that I got an attitude change!!! Fortunately I enjoy exercising at the gym. I enjoy their Expresso bikes and have started taking a Zumba Gold class which I love. It is easier than a regular Zumba class. I can only make it through 30 minutes of the class but Iím sure that time will increase.

Attitude is everything and spring is a great time to put a new one into action! You have so many reasons to be healthy. That's what changed things for me. When my attitude changed from size goals to health and fitness goals, and being healthy to enjoy my family and life more, I started focusing on those healthy choices and my weight inched down. The weight loss was a bonus! Time for a fresh start!

    Hi Yvonne
Great blog, It was nice that you could be there for your GD graduation. Looks like you had a great trip and I see you picked up a book to read. What ever it takes change something, it seems to come along.
Glad you love Zumba, I think our instructor is awesome but I feel it is Zumba and not the Gold. We had a sub last Friday and she says she teaches the Gold and it was different and not as fast. Either teacher is fine with me, I really love it, in fact they just added back a 3rd day, had cancelled it till fall and I guess to many people complained.
Thank you for sharing and I know that you WILL release the weight.

Sounds like you had a good trip and spent quality time with your family. That's awesome. Congratulations to your granddaughter. We spent the weekend in Julesburg CO and it was a fun, but VERY cold weekend. Crazy wind. My daughter and granddaughters went to the zoo on Monday and had a good morning there too. The 2 year old rode the elephant on the carousel. Wouldn't that be funny if you two were on the same ride!!

Glad you had a great weekend. I think I'm in the same boat as you are with getting control of my eating. We're gone so much on the weekends that it always sets me back from the momentum I may have gained during the week. I haven't tried a Zumba class. Everyone I talk to loves it though. They do have one in town but it starts at 4:30 and I work till 6, so I guess that's out.

Well, have a good weekend. We're actually headed to GJ to visit our son and DIL. It would be fun to hit some of those hikes that you and JR do. Not sure what the game plan is though
