We watched the Biggest Looser the other night and I found it very encouraging. At 72 I would be in with the seniors. Bonnie is struggling but she isnít quitting. Before biggest looser, she would maybe get the treadmill up to 1.5 and Anna pushed her up to 3.3. She didnít think she could do it but she did and was elated.
Ten years ago I would do 3.0 with short spurts of 3.3 on the treadmill. Wednesday I did 2.25 miles at 3.5 with spurts of 3.9. It is amazing what you can do if you keep pushing yourself a little bit more regularly.
As I was coming out of the gym I read this on their message board, which is my new motto:
Bite of more than you can chew and then chew it!
We joined the gym one year ago and I just keep pushing a little farther. It is great to look back and see how far I have come in one year.
I need to start setting goals again and get back on track. July we were gone on vacation and it has been very difficult getting back into a routine since getting home. Not to mention how tired we were when we got back home. Mom's days are up and down and I have been stressed out over that. Sometimes it is harder on her good days because she thinks she can do more than she has the strength for. Hospice is wonderful, as much for me as for Mom. They are a big help both emotionally and physically.
I am turning over a new leaf and getting back on track. Looking forward to a good month. Here are my September goals:
Eating: Track everything I eat on paper and put into the tracker at least 3 times a week.
Exercise: Strength training twice a week and gym twice a week. Stretch 5 times a week. I know that isnít enough aerobic exercise but it is a start.
Spiritual: Continue reading through the bible. Memorize Phil 1:7-11
Emotional: Need to get rid of some of the stress in my life so I can get the sleep that I need. Put the computer down and read or listen to music in the evenings.
Had an appointment with my trainer this morning. Mom got up early and I got everything done for her before I had to go. I got to the gym a little early to do the treadmill and warm up before we got started.
When the trainer got there I told her I want a routine that I could do at home. I am unable to get to the gym much anymore. I also let her know that I needed stretches to do after working out. She set me up with a real good workout for me. She wanted to know what I have been doing. The only thing is push ups for my SP challenge which I didnít think that I have very good form. She had me do the 2 that I do and said I have good form. Yay.
I have 5# weights at home so that is what we used. I was surprised that I could do them. I had decided before I saw her that I was going to work my muscles till they were tired and that is what we did. Iím tired tonight, but it is a good tired.
I had met with JR Monday and we had a nice visit and a good walk. It was so good to meet another Sparker who knows what I am going through. I felt so motivated after our meeting. I have started logging my food again. I didnít realize how much I have been eating. Thanks JR for the encouragement.
Another motivator has been Hanna from a team that Iím on. She started a challenge where we do 1 push up the first week, 2 the next week, etc. We are on week 2 and I found that I CAN do them. Thanks Hanna.
Our GD graduated from high school last Saturday. It was a long, cold, rainy, snowy, windy drive to get there but it was worth it. Our son and his family went with us in their car (they have 5 kids). It was a beautiful graduation. In the middle of it each student brought a rose to his or her parents. Lots of hugs and tears but it was really neat. There were 30 kids that graduated.
On the way home we stayed all night in Denver and then went to the zoo. There is a lot of construction going on which should be finished next year. I think every grade school student in Denver was there. Had a good time. Rode the train and the carousel. I even got one that went up and down lol.
I gained 3 pounds in 5 days. Have been having problems with my eating for several months and just havenít been able to do what I know I should be doing. For the last 3 days my calorie count has been near the lower end of what SP allows. I got the book Made to Crave from the library and was reading it on the trip to and from the graduation. It must have been what changed my attitude. Iím so glad that I got an attitude change!!! Fortunately I enjoy exercising at the gym. I enjoy their Expresso bikes and have started taking a Zumba Gold class which I love. It is easier than a regular Zumba class. I can only make it through 30 minutes of the class but Iím sure that time will increase.
Tentatively we are planning on leaving for Moab, Ut next Wednesday and coming back Saturday. We will do a lot of hiking, mostly in the Arches. The weather is supposed to be in the high 60's. It sounds wonderful to me. No housework, no cooking. They have the best restaurant on the hilltop as you go into Moab. Time alone with just hubby and me. What more could anyone ask for. Hope we stay in a place with a hot tub after all that hiking.
