Life is Good

Wednesday, August 17, 2011

Had an appointment with my trainer this morning. Mom got up early and I got everything done for her before I had to go. I got to the gym a little early to do the treadmill and warm up before we got started.

When the trainer got there I told her I want a routine that I could do at home. I am unable to get to the gym much anymore. I also let her know that I needed stretches to do after working out. She set me up with a real good workout for me. She wanted to know what I have been doing. The only thing is push ups for my SP challenge which I didnít think that I have very good form. She had me do the 2 that I do and said I have good form. Yay.

I have 5# weights at home so that is what we used. I was surprised that I could do them. I had decided before I saw her that I was going to work my muscles till they were tired and that is what we did. Iím tired tonight, but it is a good tired.

I had met with JR Monday and we had a nice visit and a good walk. It was so good to meet another Sparker who knows what I am going through. I felt so motivated after our meeting. I have started logging my food again. I didnít realize how much I have been eating. Thanks JR for the encouragement.

Another motivator has been Hanna from a team that Iím on. She started a challenge where we do 1 push up the first week, 2 the next week, etc. We are on week 2 and I found that I CAN do them. Thanks Hanna.

Glad to be on track again!!!

I'm so proud of you, Yvonne! It's not easy to get back on track when we stop tracking, etc. A big gold star to you, my friend! I'm proud of you for taking care of YOU - you deserve it and are worth it! I'm so glad you were able to get a workout routine you can do at home - good for you for seeing the reality of your situation and for coming out and asking the trainer!! And WOO HOO on the good form of your pushups!!!

I'm glad you've found motivation from JR and Hanna. You are a great support to others (like me!) and deserve to find support from others, too.

Have a wonderful day!

    Hello Lovely Yvonne,
This season in your life is a challenging one indeed. Caring for your mom is such an emotional, physical and spiritual roller coaster right now. You ARE doing the right thing by caring for yourself too, as Susie mentioned. It will give you what you need to meet the day before you. What a gift of love you are giving to your mom.

Congrats on that pushup challenge you are doing with our team! I am so impressed with your attitude...keep it going girl!!

Yvonne, it is so good to read this! I was heavily involved in caregiving for both my parents before they passed away (15 yrs ago for Mom, nearly 4 for Dad). During both seasons, I put on a lot of weight. I didn't take care of myself at all, and just comforted myself with sweets and junk food. I really am happy to see that you are working out and watching your intake more! Taking care of yourself will give you more energy to care for your Mom.

Hooray for the new workout from your trainer, for her "good job!" on your pushup form, and for connecting with a fellow Sparker! Keep it up! Your diligence will pay off!

You are always so encouraging to everyone else - Glad you got some extra encouragement returned to you. I'm trying to log all my food intake also - but not doing very good. You were right when you told me it just takes a lot of extra time.

How has your mom been doing? I admire you for all you do for her. We had my MIL with us for a month after her hip surgery and it really changed our routine.

Nebraska Trip

Thursday, May 19, 2011

Our GD graduated from high school last Saturday. It was a long, cold, rainy, snowy, windy drive to get there but it was worth it. Our son and his family went with us in their car (they have 5 kids). It was a beautiful graduation. In the middle of it each student brought a rose to his or her parents. Lots of hugs and tears but it was really neat. There were 30 kids that graduated.

On the way home we stayed all night in Denver and then went to the zoo. There is a lot of construction going on which should be finished next year. I think every grade school student in Denver was there. Had a good time. Rode the train and the carousel. I even got one that went up and down lol.

I gained 3 pounds in 5 days. Have been having problems with my eating for several months and just havenít been able to do what I know I should be doing. For the last 3 days my calorie count has been near the lower end of what SP allows. I got the book Made to Crave from the library and was reading it on the trip to and from the graduation. It must have been what changed my attitude. Iím so glad that I got an attitude change!!! Fortunately I enjoy exercising at the gym. I enjoy their Expresso bikes and have started taking a Zumba Gold class which I love. It is easier than a regular Zumba class. I can only make it through 30 minutes of the class but Iím sure that time will increase.

Sounds like a wonderful weekend: fun, family, celebration and an attitude adjustment along the way! WooHoo!
Attitude is everything and spring is a great time to put a new one into action! You have so many reasons to be healthy. That's what changed things for me. When my attitude changed from size goals to health and fitness goals, and being healthy to enjoy my family and life more, I started focusing on those healthy choices and my weight inched down. The weight loss was a bonus! Time for a fresh start!

    Hi Yvonne
Great blog, It was nice that you could be there for your GD graduation. Looks like you had a great trip and I see you picked up a book to read. What ever it takes change something, it seems to come along.
Glad you love Zumba, I think our instructor is awesome but I feel it is Zumba and not the Gold. We had a sub last Friday and she says she teaches the Gold and it was different and not as fast. Either teacher is fine with me, I really love it, in fact they just added back a 3rd day, had cancelled it till fall and I guess to many people complained.
Thank you for sharing and I know that you WILL release the weight.

Glad you got to have family fun! I love the carousel! I also loved Made to Crave! There is a message thread about it on driven By Faith team, if you want to read what some others have shared. Mostly posted rely in the year when the book was just out.
I made some unhealthy choices today. Need to regroup tomorrow! We Can Do It!

    Hi Yvonne!

How special to spend the time with your family and celebrating the graduation. Those are special memories in the making. Your resolve to recommit is a great choice; those pounds can sneak back in before we know it. Stay focused on your goal and crave what the Lord has in store for you! I am so excited for your Zumba class! I am heading to Missouri tomorrow for 10 days to visit family and am nervous about the extra eating and sitting in the car! I will crave the good things.

Joy!

An attitude change is a great thing to have. Now you can make some progress again. I got discouraged today. I went to the Docs office today and her scales weighed me 8# heavier than ours. Of course I had clothes on, but not 8# worth. Keep up the good work. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Sounds like you had a good trip and spent quality time with your family. That's awesome. Congratulations to your granddaughter. We spent the weekend in Julesburg CO and it was a fun, but VERY cold weekend. Crazy wind. My daughter and granddaughters went to the zoo on Monday and had a good morning there too. The 2 year old rode the elephant on the carousel. Wouldn't that be funny if you two were on the same ride!!

Glad you had a great weekend. I think I'm in the same boat as you are with getting control of my eating. We're gone so much on the weekends that it always sets me back from the momentum I may have gained during the week. I haven't tried a Zumba class. Everyone I talk to loves it though. They do have one in town but it starts at 4:30 and I work till 6, so I guess that's out.

Well, have a good weekend. We're actually headed to GJ to visit our son and DIL. It would be fun to hit some of those hikes that you and JR do. Not sure what the game plan is though

Good for you, I swear, I have been in this same rut for so long, I never lose any weight, and I really do not over eat, and I do exercise, I know I have to change up something, but I keep trying, I have not hit the magic button yet, but, it will happen, hopefully, I really do not need to lose more weight, maybe that is my problem, but I want to get down to what I made my goad. so good luck to you, We can do this

Moab

Thursday, March 24, 2011

Tentatively we are planning on leaving for Moab, Ut next Wednesday and coming back Saturday. We will do a lot of hiking, mostly in the Arches. The weather is supposed to be in the high 60's. It sounds wonderful to me. No housework, no cooking. They have the best restaurant on the hilltop as you go into Moab. Time alone with just hubby and me. What more could anyone ask for. Hope we stay in a place with a hot tub after all that hiking.

emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon - oops, how did that get in there? emoticon

Liberty Cap Trail

Sunday, March 06, 2011

Yesterday we hiked part way up Liberty Cap Trail with DS, DIL, and 5 GC. The first part wasn't too bad with a little elevation increase. The second part was almost straight up. DS said we gained 100 feet in a short way. I forgot my camera but the views were wonderful. DH, DIL, GS and me turned around and went back down. We had hiked about 1 1/4 miles before turning back. DS and the 4 older GC went on up to the top. The youngest that went was only 5.

Our 2 1/2 yo walked or ran most of the way up. DS carried him in his backpack about 1/3rd of the way up the steep part. He walked all the way down. When we got back home, DIL and I did Just Dance on the WII for about 25 minutes. Had a wonderful day.

My calves are really tight today. Going to have to do some time on the treadmill with the inclination raised to get into shape for our next hike. Glad the weather is getting nicer so we can do more of them. It is much more fun than walking the treadmill.

Sounds like a fun hike with the family. When we go to GJ to see our son and daughter in law, we are going to have to check out these hikes that you and JR talk about. I LOVE that it's getting nice again. Our snow is melting like crazy these last couple of weeks but now we have Mud Season big time.

Have a good week -

5k Walking Program

Saturday, February 26, 2011

I just finished week one of the SparkPeople's Official 5k Your Way Walking Program. It is a five-week program. It is going to push me to pick up my speed. My goal is to do it in less than 50 minutes. My best time so far is 51 minutes. There is a local 5k on April 23rd that I would like to do.

The first weeks goals are:
Day 1 Ė walk 15 continuous minutes. Did that.
Day 2 Ė walk 1 mile. I walked 1 1/4 miles in 22 minutes.
Day 3 Ė walk 1 1/2 miles, which I walked in 28 minutes. That would equal a 58 minute 5k.

It is a good thing that I have a couple months to bring my speed up.

Next week we have to walk for 30 continuous minutes, walk 1.75 miles and 2.0 miles.
