Tracking Food

Tuesday, January 04, 2011

I didn't have time to track food during December. I have learned enough in 10 months on SP to not have to do it - or so I thought! I put on around 3 1/2 pounds. I started tracking everything again yesterday. I ate like I had been and after dinner ca.me the great awakening. I found out why I put on those pounds!!!

Well I am now back to tracking everything I eat and exercising again. Oh, did I mention that I hadn't exercised after the first week of December (unless you count shopping).

I'm getting down to business and looking forward to a good year.

Ah, yes, December. Well, it is behind us now (literally!), and we can get on with the rest of our lives! Food tracking is so important...I keep my notebook right next to my living room chair for easy tracking, but found I still 'forgot'. I have gone back to using the nutrition tracker on the sight. More hassle but also more effective, for me.
Keep up the good work, you're doing great.

    Hi Yvonne
I Love your blog, I think some times that we are so fortunate to have found SparkPeople. For in the past with the weight going up and down and up again, we had no support. So, You have learned a very good lesson on what to do and that is tracking and exercise.
You come into 2011, with a plan and the knowledge of what you have to do. 2011, in my opinion WILL be a very successful year for you.
Thank you for sharing emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

The people that I know that are successful with keeping weight off (one gal for 15 years) track their food. I think I am one of those that will have to do it forever. I jot everything down in a little pocket pad and then in the late afternoon/early evening, I put all of the entries in Spark and see if I have any calories left. That decides what kind of snack I can have. The spark people phone app is really nice, if I would take the time to use it. Sometimes its just easier to write it down.

Looking Forward

Saturday, January 01, 2011

I have been thinking a lot about goals and what I want to accomplish in 2011.

I have been spending way too much time on the computer. Whenever I am sitting, I have the computer in my lap. I couldnt even watch the Roses Parade today without it. This has to stop. I am not looking forward to trying to change this. I tend to get hyper without the computer. I will also have to make good use of my time when I do use the computer.

I want to use the time that frees up to read and do an in-depth bible study. I have been wanting to start with Philippians. I just finished an exciting class on how to study the bible without using commentaries and cant wait to put it into practice.

I also want to start going through things that we have that we never use and get rid of them. Someone should be able to get some use out of them. I am not sure whether we own our possessions or they own us :-). Now I just have to decide which room to start in.

Last but not least is Spark People. Over the holidays I just did not have time to track my food and exercise. That definitely needs to be started again. The exercising will be easy to start again. Exercising is something that I enjoy doing and it makes me feel good. It also gives me more energy.

Tracking my food is a chore that I am dreading. I know what I should be doing eating more fruits and vegetables and cutting back on sweets. I have cut back to one or two F/V a day. Will start out with baby steps again and increase them to three a day. Getting my water back up to 8 glasses a day should be easy. Thank goodness for that.

I need to read more encouraging blogs on SP. I feel that these are some major goals for me and I need all the encouragement and motivation that I can get.

emoticon Yvonne! Just getting goals in writing is a big step in the right direction! I could identify with your computer challenge -- we got an i-pad in late Nov. and I find I've got it far more often than hubby. If nothing else, playing solitaire. Then I started getting sharp pains in my forarm and realize I'm stressing those muscles and putting pressure on nerves because of the repetetive motions. No More Solitaire -- and I do need to sit here at the desk rather than in my lazy-boy chair so often! As I was putting hats & mittens away yesterday, I pulled out several things to donate at church -- little bits of giving things away helps me. There's always more than we need! Just start small instead of looking at the big picture! Baby Steps!!
emoticon You've accomplished many things in 2010 that you can be proud of, and I'm sure you'll accomplish these goals, too! I look forward to cheering you on in 2011!

Great job putting out your goals in writing! (I need to think about and do the same thing, but I've been procrastinating:-)

Maybe you can stop thinking that you only track food when you're doing "good". My first baby step was to track my food - good, bad, or ugly. Just tracking it was a success. That, in turn, naturally led me to make small changes. I haven't been doing that the last week or two - but I did today! It wasn't all that pretty for supper, but it's tracked!:-)

Happy New Year!

I love what you said about our possessions owning us! So true. Cutting back is something that most of us Americans need to do. Thanks for the reminder there!

Also, good luck with your well laid out goals. You have a plan and realistic expectations. I am sure you will be successful! All things are possible through Him after all! :)

Keep us updated on your new style of bible study. It sounds intriguing.

    Hi Yvonne
Happy New Year. Great blog. I have a question about to much time on the computer. Is the time on the computer Spark time or other things? Reason I ask is that you said you didn't have time to track over the holidays? A couple of months ago, you blogged your goals and results every day or so, It seemed to work and also it is one of those areas that is you miss something , Spark friends can help motivate you to do it.
I feel you did a great job in 2010. You were quite successful in my opinion. You have some great goals set for 2011 and all I think is you just need to get going. Tracking has to be a priority, also you made a statement about getting ready to get rid of some things. believe me , decluttering can open up a huge area where things seem to get created and what I am saying, some extra excitement and motivation in other parts of your life.
I also feel you will be fine, getting started, knowing that you have been successful, having the support of Spark friends WILL result in a successful 2011.

Hello dear friend! Sounds like you have some great goals to start the year with! It's so easy to get out of whack and you sound determined to get back on track. I don't like to track my food either, but it really shows how to do it right when I do. I love your thoughts to get back to a Bible Study too; that will help your feelings about making the right choices.

We just got back from my mom in law's house in Missouri. She is 88 and has not ever (hardly ever) got rid of anything! It's so very cluttered in her house, and not very safe. It's hard for her to rid of things. Ron and I did our best to clean some stuff up, and we got a few things done! That always makes me want to come back and clean and give things away too! Hope you are inspired!

Blessings on your day and way to go!
Love,
Julia : )

Ready for a New Start!

Monday, December 27, 2010

The Holidays were good except for Mom continuing to go downhill and the weight gain. From Thanksgiving to Christmas I put on 3.8 pounds :-(. I had stopped tracking food and wasn't exercising. I am ready to start again and looking forward to the New Year. Doing some thinking about short and long-term goals for next year. Having a hard time on deciding what goals I should have. Thinking about all facets of life.

Last week 2 of the GC each spent a night with us. Last night GS spent the night. We will bake cookies today and go to McDonalds for lunch. Fortunately I like their salads. Wed. night GD will spend the night. I'm hoping to get to the gym a couple of times this week. Next week should be back to normal - whatever that is :-).

Dieting is hard at anytime but when you have an ailing parent, it puts extra stress on you.
So don't be too hard on yourself and just do the best you can.

We all need a break at times, not having to worry about calories , water, or how long we exercise. I think if this new healthy lifestyle starts seeming like a job or hard work then It is a lot harder to stay with it.

Thanksgiving

Wednesday, December 01, 2010

My 8 yo GD came over Wednesday and we cooked. She made the pumpkin pies. I think they were the best pumpkin pies that she has every had ;-). I was cutting up celery and onion and she asked if she could cut them up. She said that her mom let her use a sharp knife. I turned it over to her and kept an eye on her. She did a great job. We made the green beans and a sweet potato casserole to be baked on Thursday.

DH and I get the turkey ready to go into the oven before I left for the Turkey Trot. DS and I got there about 10 minutes early and it got started about 10 minutes late. It was cold about 13 degrees, brrrr. Once we got moving we warmed up quickly. There were a lot of people in it, 729. That is the largest 5k that I have done. Had a good time and finished in 54 minutes. Finished 2 nd in my age category there were 4 of us in our 70s.

Had a good dinner and family time. Even got to see some of the parade.

Today DS and I hiked Dinosaur Hill. Even found a geocache there. We also saw a bald eagle sitting on the top of a tree by the river. Forgot my camera. Had a good time
