Eye Opener

This week has been a real eye opener as far as calorie intake. We have had several celebrations and going out to eat this week. In the past that would have meant going way off track. I did give myself permission to celebrate with everyone but was still trying to stay within my calorie limits. I was able to go out to eat and choose wisely and not go over my calorie range for the day. I had cake and ice cream at the parties and a wonderful time was had by all Ė especially me. After the parties were over with I was able to get back down to the lower part of my calorie range. It has been an amazing week for me.

At granddaughters birthday party DIL cut me a regular slice of cake and then cut herself a small sliver (she isnít real fond of cake). She looked at my piece and asked if I wanted to trade. I knew she didnít want a piece that big so I said I would eat it. She insisted, so we traded. She is the sweetest DIL a person could ever ask for.

We gave the kids swimming lessons for their birthdays this year. Our oldest GDís birthday was in July and we gave her a framed picture of her jumping off the high diving board to go along with her lessons. For GDís birthday yesterday she wanted a picture too. So we gave her a picture of Dad dropping her off the diving board. Dad was the only one she would trust to do that.

Our next GDís birthday is in February and she has already put in her request for a picture. It is amazing how something so simple can be so pleasing.

    That is great that you were sure enough of yourself to indulge in the celebrations. I too will do just that sometimes for something really special, like cheese, good sourdough bread and bread pudding ( emoticon I really dont let myself often, but when I do, I enjoy it immensely, and then feel guilty later, but I stay as close to my calorie range as I can.
Sounds like you have great grandchildren. Congratulations, family is what it is all about, and of course close friends too.

    Good job! It's nice when you figure out that you can have foods you like in moderation. You don't have to go overboard and totally go off your healthy eating to celebrate. Keep up the good work.

This a great blog and as you say an eye opener. So I am going to suggest something that I see that is greater than what you saw. It is my understanding that you are still working towards your goal, when that happens you go on to maintenance. What I saw was a person who was acting as a person who is at their desired weight and doing the things that maintains the weight. You really are preparing for that day already with your awareness and that is awesome.
I think children are special,we buy and give all these big things thinking that is what a child needs and find that children really do enjoy things that didn't seem like a big deal but was important to the little ones. The pictures are great example of that. If as adults we could see that big and expensive isn't always the best in life.
You have a great family and it is wonderful that you can spend time with them.

    Aren't grandchildren special? When I asked my little one to make out a Christmas wish list she worked on it for several minutes and then showed it to me. It had: a pack of pencils, a new coloring book, a tablet and a pencil sharpener on it. I thought about how those simple wishes will change to really expensive wishes in such a short time. Gotta cherish our little ones every day!
Good for you on taking part in the celebrations of life and doing it smartly!

Had a great day on Tuesday. I mowed the front lawn before GS came over. After he got here we went for a walk. I put him in the stroller (he is 2), and off we went. When we came to the uphill part, I took him out and let him walk/run. When you get to be my age you notice even the little hills LOL. He wanted to hold on to the stroller but I didnít want to have to pull him up the hill so I would start jogging and he would run to try to get the stroller. (His dad has taught him to play chase so he runs everywhere anyway.) When we got to the top of the hill he got to hold on to the stroller until we came to the street. Then I put him back into the stroller for the rest of the way home. He is such a sweetie.

For lunch DIL, Mom and I went to Chiliís. We splurged and had their chips and salsa. I had a free coupon for it and the waiter brought us Queso with it. That was an unexpected treat but oh so yummy. I had their Caribbean Salad for lunch and ate half of it then and the other half for dinner. I didnít go over my calorie limit for the day even with the unexpected treat.

What a nice calm enjoyable day you had. What a blessing that you can enjoy your grandson.
So you went to chili's, I swear that they attach another 500 calories on you when you walk through the door. It was good that you shared some, Congratulations on staying within you range. They have some of the highest calorie dishes going, so you did a great job.

Visualization

A couple of the gals on my team have been talking about visualization. I started thinking about it and realised that I was using visualization last week and didn't even realize it. I visualized eating in the lower 3rd of my calorie range and did it 5 out of 7 days. The other 2 days I went slightly over.

This week I have been visualizing eating in the middle third of my calorie range and sure enough the past 2 days that is what I have done. I am having a rough week with a birthday party Sun., took Mom out to lunch today, DIL out to lunch tomorrow, birthday party Wed., and out to dinner on Thursday before the Community Concert.

Should I try to visualize the bottom third or be content with the middle third of my calorie range.

    Hey Yvonne! There is a range of calories for a reason dear. It gives you the goal to shoot for; some days in the lower, middle or over the top! Of course, going over the top is not the visualization that we need to have. You have been given some good thoughts here to go on. We all have those weeks of temptation when all it seems we are doing is eating and celebrating. I would say you have a great week in store with all your activites, so remember to keep your mind in a positive way. Keep the portion choices in control and enjoy this special week within your calorie range. I know when I have alot going on with plans and I overeat and drink, it spoils my time with my friends and family because of poor choices. So you enjoy this fun week you have planned!

    Hi, you have quite a few things coming up, were you could so easily go over the top even though you may be visualizing be ing in the lower or middle calorie level.
What is your ULTIMATE VISION ?? I think it is to lose weight and reach your goal. This depends on how committed you are, how badly you want it.
I myself couldn' just trust visualizing, I know what I have to do, or I will be back to square one, and I know I am never going back there. It is hard, very hard, but the Prize at the end has got to be worth it.
Unfortunately all of us in our overweight situation, LOVE food, but we can do it, It is definately possible.
You can still eat out and eat sensibly, just think about it and plan.

    Hi Yvonne
Visualization does work, what it does is take a desire and create a belief in the idea, that then can become the picture you want.
So, my question to you would be is why the decision to change the bottom third to the middle range? When I read this, the thought came to my mind that you have some things coming up that very well could raise the calories you take in and by thinking about the middle range is giving yourself permission to be there.
If I really understand the range we have, it is a range that should not allow for any increase in weight, so it really doesn't matter where in there you are.
So if in these things coming up would increase what you eat, It would be fine as long as you stay some where in the range. Most people that say they went off track, really exceeded the maximum in the range.
So the answer to your questions comes back as a question what purpose does it serve in your visualization for you?

Failure and Success

The difference between failure and success is that successful people get back up and keep trying when they fail. My life may be like a yo-yo but I will be the one that keeps on trying. Like SPís motto ďOne step backwards and two steps forward.Ē

My progress may be slow but I am still going forward. I checked my weight ticker yesterday and was surprised to see that I am almost halfway to my first weight loss goal. What a pleasant surprise.

Since joining SP I have frequently said ďnew week, new day, new start.Ē I feel fortunate that every time that I start again I start from a better place than the previous start. I will not give up. I will keep going until I reach the finish line. Giving up is not an option.

Great blog, People who are successful in life, do what you suggest, keep on doing it until they reach what ever goal they have been working towards. Failures quit, it is that simple. You really have a positive attitude and are motivated. If you look at what you have accomplished , you are already a success. I truly believe that you will reach your goal, One day at a time and 1 step at a time.

Good Day

Thursday, September 02, 2010

Had a good day yesterday. Went for a walk. Walked 1 mile in 20 minutes, which is good for me. Did some housework. Took Mom to the audiologist and then out to dinner. We went to Bamboo City. She normally is a light eater, but she piled her plate high and ate every bit of it. I thought she was so full that I would get her cookie. No way, she gobbled it right down and then went home and had some more dessert. I'm still smiling about how much she ate. She did enjoy it.
