Committing to God ~

Saturday, June 08, 2013

Today I found myself rereading some verses in Proverbs 16, that I had reviewed earlier in this wellness journey. Two messages came through loud and clear. Here is what the Lord spoke to me about today ~

Commit to the Lord whatever you do and he will establish your plans. Prov 16:3

If we make our requests known to God and commit our work to him, he will provide the tools to help us get the job done! I can't tell you how often I face work in my life and just don't know how I will get it done, when suddenly a person or situation appears that will help me to accomplish exactly what I am out to do! This was the case with finding Spark People ~ I had made the decision to pursue improved health and wellness and had decided that I needed to be sure to incorporate motivational approaches. As I searched the internet for websites and resources, I came upon the Spark People website - and here I am 6 weeks later having been pretty consistent with healthier behaviors and with 12 pounds of weight loss! Even more proof of God establishing my plans is the resolve that I have been experiencing to carry out the healthy behaviors with my eating and exercising. Praise God! It clearly took an act of God to get this diva moving!

The second verse that jumped out at me and really gave me a laugh was the following ~

Honest scales and balances belong to the Lord; all the weights in the bag are of his making. Prov 16:11

If I thought of my body as a bag, I might consider that all the weight in the bag is of his making! If this is true, then it is really up to the Lord to establish the most appropriate weight in this "bag". I truly believe that God is going to assist me to get my weight to the measurement that is of His making! All I have to do is to be obedient ~ I just have to get out of the way!

Happy Weekend, everyone!
Gail

God's Guarantee of What is to Come!

Friday, June 07, 2013

Isn't it awesome how God's word remains as relevant to us today as it was at the time that it was written!!! This morning I came to some verses in 2 Corinthians - I just love the letters to the Corinthians, as they speak so much of God's love for us!

So here are the words that I was led to today ~

Now is it God who makes both us and you stand firm in Christ. He anointed us, set his seal of ownership on us, and put his Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come. 2 Cor 1:21-22

These verses say so much to me! First they are a reminder that we are owned by Christ and that he will help us to remain in Him! I am also encouraged by the indwelling of his Holy Spirit in us. His precious Spirit provides us with all the tools that are necessary for us to make the wellness journeys that we are on! How excellent that we are guaranteed of what is to come! Clearly this is referring to the eternal rewards that await us! Perhaps we might also consider that "what is to come" might also refer to the enhanced wellness and health that we are striving for. Afterall, the more successful that we are on this journey, the better equipped that we are to carry out God's plans for our lives!

Have a great day!
Gail

Some Extra Help ~ Prayer

Thursday, June 06, 2013

A big part of my plan for health and wellness includes spending time with God on a daily basis. I try to start each day with some scripture, opening my bible and reading whatever scripture that I come to. So often the words seem to speak directly to me, which is like having a person-to-person chat with God. I wanted to share the scripture that I came to this morning. Here is it ~

In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God's people in accordance with the will of God. Rom 8: 26-27

How awesome is it that the Holy Spirit prays for us for the things that we need when we do not know what to pray for! I hope that everyone is having a great day! I pray that the Holy Spirit will pray for exactly what you need today and that you will feel richly blessed!

Thanks,
Gail

Gail, I've just been looking through another of your blogs. I love them so much! Please continue to write them. I agree, when you just pray and meditate and then open up your Bible , it IS just like it is just for you at that time and it is the RIGHT time!

I don't want to know what my life would be like without the Lord in it! There have been times when I know it had to be the groans of the Holy Spirit that have gotten me through! He is also a big part of this particular journey in heathy living! Bless you for sharing your thoughts and prayers!

I have found it cool to look up and post verses that are "love letters" from God-- they build self esteem like " YOU are FEARFULLY and WONDERFULLY MADE!" It is a great way to boost self esteem and remind us we are not what we weigh--rather we are Children of God--Princes and Princess--deserving of the BEST in life.
Blessings Abundant as you make this journey. . .May you relax in the one who loves you and comforts you far better than any food could!

BLC22 - A Fresh Start!

Monday, June 03, 2013

As we begin the BLC22 12 week challenge, I feel reenergized to move forward toward improved health and a more exciting life! The ultimate goal that I came to Spark People with 5 weeks ago was to improve my health and wellness so that I could maximize my life activities! I wanted to be in the best possible shape that I could be in so that I could better carry out the plans for my life!

My goals for the BLC22 12 week challenge include the following:

1. Routinely eat 3 meals and 2 snacks each day and log all caloric items consume. I would also love to meet the goals for various nutritional components.

2. Carry out balanced exercise regimen that includes cardio, strength training, and stretching activities ~ still working on the frequency of each ~ right now - 5 days/week of cardio, 2 days/week of strength training, and at 2-3 days/week of stretching.

3. Get blood sugars in acceptable ranges, including FBS, pre-meal BS, and post-meal BS (FBS less than 110; other sugars less than 140).

4. Have energy to get my home organized with excess items removed from my house.

5. Weight - of course I want to see a weight loss - in the next 12 weeks, I would like to see between 12 and 24 pounds lost.

6. Draw closer to God as I turn to Him each day to accompany me on this journey!

Of course, there are many other benefits that will come along with achieving these healthy behaviors. I plan to pay attention so that I can notice and enjoy these positive changes. I am exciting for moving on to this juncture of the journey and look forward to the new people that I will meet and the new experiences that I will enjoy! I want to be sure to enjoy the journey, not just live for the end result!

Thanks,
Gail

First Month of Healthy Lifestyle!

Sunday, May 26, 2013

I just realized that I have been with Spark People for one month! I am pleased with my progress and definitely feel that I am developing some new healthy habits. Out of the four weeks, I have had only 4 days where I ate items that were not in my nutritional best interest. On the other days, I was well focused on eating for nutrition and when hungry or required by physical needs. I was able to get back on track after the four times, which is a key difference for me this time over previous efforts. I am getting a grip on the exercise balance with the integration of stretching, cardio, and strength training. I am really enjoying the learning, motivational, and community activities that are available on Spark People. I consider the first month a success - far exceeding my prior attempts in this area of my life! emoticon

As I continue into my second month, I want to focus on checking my blood sugars and correctly using insulin. I am looking forward to the second half of the Diabetes 8 Week Challenge and beginning the BLC!!!

I must give God kudos for sticking with me and giving me the focus that has been needed to reach my wellness goals! What an awesome and kind God we have! I also wish to thank all of my new spark friends for commenting on my blogs, posting messages on my spark page, and sending me spark goodies! Your support has been tremendous and means so much!

Thanks!
Gail
