I rode my recumbent bike again today for ten minutes. I also did about ten minutes of resistance and strength training with my bands. I stayed within my calorie range. I will continue to track my foods and move my body. I hope to increase the minutes on Sunday. My knees and legs ache but I'm doing it and that makes me feel good.

Somewhat Successful

Yesterday I stated some goals in returning to SP. I did well today. I logged everything that I put into my mouth. I stayed within my SP ranges for everything tracked. I did drink a little soda with dinner. I did eat a couple ounces of barbecue chips. I tossed the rest of them into the garbage so I wouldn't eat any more of them. I drank six cups of water so far and willl down two more before bed. I was not going to do any moving but have been really down today so after dinner I rode my stationary recumbent bike for ten minutes. Five shy of my intent but it was better than none. Tomorrow will be another day. Baby steps.

    Hi Karon,
Like I said on the 400 board-NOOO BABY STEPS are these!!! When you're getting started again, each step you take are magnificent, giant leaps and we're sooo proud of you!!! Each of the things you did here are SOOO RIGHT ON!...eating a few of the chips-getting rid of the rest...MOVING "EVEN WHEN" you were DOWN---THAT'S TOUGH TO DO!!!---AND YOU DID IT! 10 min's is great by way.
Hope you're feelin' better today. I'm accomplishing more and more day by day as well and each success seems to be enabling MORE success...helps me WANT MORE, BELIEVE I "CAN" DO MORE...we're doin' it, Karon! Hugs-Sherry

Making My Way Back to You

I think my body is trying to tell me something. Thinking about eating French fries makes me nauseous. Eating anything sweet makes my stomach cramp. Drinking diet soda makes my tummy burn. So ... I am done! I am going to get back to eating healthy, drinking water, and moving my body. I am going to use the tracker here. I am going to increase my water back to at least 64 oz per day. To start, I am going to move my body for at least 15 minutes once a day and next week I am going to get back to doing my Walk Away the Pounds DVD. I've gained 50ish pounds and want them gone. I want to get back to 265 again. I can do it. I will do it. I am worth it!

New Territory

I have finally managed to get into new territory in the weight loss. I had been stuck at 265-270 since last July. This past week I managed to go from 269 down to my current weight as of today 263.8! Woo hoo for me!

I've been really increasing the protein and it seems to be paying off. I'm also staying on the high end of the calorie range and making better food choices. The exercise is still my three days a week classes and I'm trying to get myself to commit to walking and using the fitness center here at my apartment complex regularly but cannot seem to get it done. I seem to come home from work, sit down, and just veg. I suppose I could get a work out in before work as I'm certainly up early enough most days, however, that is my "me" time and it's quiet in the house and I just want to spend quiet time by myself. Not sure I'm ready to give that up. *sigh*

So ... I hope to continue the downward trend that has begun. I would love to be sitting at 230 when I go to see my surgeon in October for my two year follow-up appointment. I have made that my goal weight for now. Not sure it can happen as that is about 35 lbs in four months which at this point post op isn't very realistic. I am going to keep it as my short term goal knowing this but if I don't make it, I will not consider it failure. I need to commit to doing what it takes and having a goal, even such as this, helps to keep me on track.

    There is nothing I have to say that you don't know. However, 'tis a well proven fact that those who exercise in the morning get it done much more reliably than evening-ers. So maybe your time for "me" needs to change its character to help out "me" in a different way for a while. Hard to believe you are approaching 2 years. I am getting too old too fast..... Lee

exercise is that hard part and I too get up early for me time..but I do my exercising then, I can sort of zone out on my bike or treadmill and think , dream and make plans for my day, my week and for my healthy lifestyle....it has worked for me..

Water aerobics on Wednesday was intense. We did steps in the water. I didn't think it was all that different but I am here to tell you that while it didn't seem all that rough, I have sore muscles that scream otherwise. Hope we start to step more regularly in the water. I enjoyed it and know that the soreness is good.

The weather here in Chicagoland has been beautiful this past week. I started walking with the girls at work about a mile every day, at least. On Thursday, I got out the bikes and we went for a bike ride. Now mind you, I had not been a bicycle in at least 25 years! I was wobbly but it is true: You never forget how to ride a bike once you've learned.

One of the girls and I set off. I started out on a girl's bicycle but my knees started to ache early on. I exchanged bikes with the girl because the one she was on was a bigger bike but it was also a boy's bike. No more knee pain. Cool! Then we were riding uphill and she called for me to stop. I did and put my feet down only to realize even not sitting on the seat I could barely reach the ground with my tippy toes. I leaned to the left to swing my leg off the bike and the bike slid. I fell on top of the bike and then down onto my elbow and knees. OUCH! I ended up with some small puncture wounds in the heel of one hand, road rash on my arm near my left elbow, and road rash with puncture wounds on my left knee. I sat there on the ground stunned for a couple minutes. The girl was mortified and came to see if I wanted help up. I managed to get up with a little bit of dignity. We walked (I more likely hobbled) back toward the home. Almost there and I decided to get back on and ride again. Made it back without incident but once again, fell getting off the bike. The girls tease me that before I can ride again I need knee pads, elbow pads, gloves, and a helmet. In spite of the falls, I had so much FUN! I want a bike to ride at home. Just need to make sure that I buy one that is the right size for me. I'm okay. Sore and scabbed over, but okay. I survived my first bike ride in over 25 years and it felt FANTASTIC!!!

I am loving that I do things now that I haven't been able to do for so long. I want to rollerskate again. I used to love rollerskating. Last time I went, I spent most of the night on my butt on the floor because my center of gravity was so off from all the weight. I had a hard enough time getting off the floor in the first place. Add the rollerskates and it was next to impossible to get up. I so want to try but am afraid. Maybe I'll do it in the gym at work, late at night when no one is there to witness the fall should it happen. I think that will be my next exercise challenge. Just got to work up the courage ...

    Awesome, Karon!!!! And lest you think you're alone in the "fall dept.," I fell while trying clip-in bike shoes the first time with my racing bike (haven't ridden it since 2002). My mother was in the front yard working on the flower bed and I cruised into the driveway...and forgot which foot I put down when coming to a stop. I popped the wrong foot from the clip and fell over.
