Decision Made!

Friday, February 20, 2009

Well I have been doing quite a bit of thinking about this since it began and have come to a conclusion of my own. And I and Walter are perfectly alright with it. What would that be? That if after today Moonhee doesn't come to me sometime throughout the day and say that they have decided to do the honourable thing and finish my training the way it should have been and take the Help wanted sign out of the window.... She has left me with no choice but to tender my resignation. Last day worked will be March 31 2009 And if they haven't found a replacememnt by then guess what NOT MY PROBLEM and they will simply be S.O.L won't they? Not only that but then the letter to the labour board will be rewritten with names and places and formerly submitted. I'm through playing games. So today will tell the story.
I'm not going to take it that far with lawyers and such. I will already have retrobution when I submitt the letter to the labour board concerning the fact that they refuse to pay any time and a half or even regular pay for statatory Holidays whether worked or not. Beczus accoriding to the labour lays they have to pay time and a half for a stat worked Instead they saw to it that neither of us Ashley included who is full time, were never booked to work a stat. But what they fail to realize is that they are required by law to pay regular wages if the day before a stat has been worked or the day after. This even applys to part time. Unionized or not. And too thee only day they are closed is Christmas They remain open year around Stat holidays included And there are some they should be closed on. They are a business They are not medical; hospitals, nursing homes etc. which have to be staffed 24/7

You seem to be a peace with this decision and I'm glad. You didn't need the extra stress. I can't wait to hear what they say.

I will be keeping you in my prayers. I had sort of the same situation when I left my teaching position last May. It was tough but I have heard how things are now there and I am glad that I left! I am now at a job that I love! I hope that you can find a job that will be great for you too!

If Walter is supporting you in this battle, I agree with you resigning. They obviously don't value you as an employee. Bad energy, karma, whatever you want to call it. Are there other job opportunities for you to pursue? Is it necessary for you to work?

Worrying holding you back?

Thursday, February 19, 2009

Is your worrying holding you back?

Once film negatives are exposed to the light of day, they're ruined. In the same way, once you see your worries for what they are--self-inflicted doubts--their power disappears. If you give your doubts and fears too much development time, they'll take hold and start to color all of your thinking in a negative light. Pessimists have more health problems, are less productive, and are generally unhappier than optimists. People that don't worry as much spend more time coping with the realities of life and less time occupied with would-be problems. To get rid of worry, think more confidently. Know that you can handle anything that comes along. Know that with loss comes opportunity. Know that things generally have a way of working out. Stay out of that dark room and picture something better.

Overcoming obstacles one at a time

Your goals may not come easy. There is no accomplishment without work, and no "win" without something to beat. It's easy to get discouraged when roadblocks appear--in fact, it's only natural. You've invested time and emotion into creating the perfect plan, and then something has to come along and muck it all up. Sometimes, though, all you have to do to beat that barrier is to get back up and move forward again. Obstacles are like the Wizard behind the curtain--they're a lot less intimidating once you see them up close. Next time you take a step back, don't let guilt pile it on top of your previous "stumbles." Just take two steps forward and you're still farther along than you were before. It doesn't matter how many walls you face. You only have to get the better of that last one.

How do you keep everything in perspective?

Is there anything that Ziggy doesn't know? In the cartooning universe, he's often placed in hopeless situations, pitted against a world that doesn't make sense. He's an agreeable punch line for the quirks of human nature. Yet he's able to brush off his mishaps and focus on the opportunities that today brings. He can also look to the future with hope, knowing full well that more struggles may lie ahead. Most of all, he can look at himself and have a good chuckle. Do you make yourself anxious about things that might happen or stew over mistakes you've made? Don't let a preoccupation with tomorrow or yesterday rob your ability to face that crazy world with a smile. For Ziggy, today is today. It's not a good day; it's not a bad day. It's a day. And he knows that it's important to give that day the value it deserves.

This is so true. I used to say I was more a disappointed optimist than a true pessimist. My tendency is to look for the positives, but from history, know that good doesn't always triumph over evil, and you don't always end up where you thought you were headed. I have learned, though, that those obstacles we all face don't keep us from reaching our goals, sometimes they just point us to a goal we haven't thought about yet.

Letter of Advisement

Thursday, February 19, 2009

Sent out minutes ago to the Alberta Labour Board! Just seeing what they have to say!

Dear Sir or Madam,

I have a situation that I am needing advice on.
At present I am employed with a local store here in town and as recently as Tuesday February 17, being the part time help I was called into the office and informed that due to a slow down they were cutting back my hours to two days a week. Understandable. However, when I returned from my lunch hour I found a Help wanted sign in the window advertising for part time help!
I confronted my employer on the matter. "You're cutting back my hours because of the business being slow yet advertising for help?" It was then that she informed me that even though I had now been there a year I was making mistakes on cash. Now I make no more mistakes on cash than any of the other employees or employer for that matter and any mistakes made have always been reported and corrected in due course.
And from what I understand this is the sole reason they have decided to replace my employment!
I have reminded her that months previous the main butcher left and the person that was training me at that time did not complete my training because rather than hire another he chose to step into the fulltime position himself. And no one else stepped in to completed my training as it should have been, which was the operation of the cash/till. I was not shown how to correct mistakes etc so that I didn't always have to be calling on someone else. But she has become frustrated with this because she is of course the one I have to report the mistake to and fix.
So after pointing this out, requested that she now complete the training rather than replacing me. I am willing to be trained. It would seem she is not willing to do this. She would rather replace me and spend the time money and energy to train someone completely new! The solution is right in front of them and they refuse to make the effort.

And too there is something else I would like to bring to your attention at this time and that is the matter of Statutory Holiday pay. These employers have told all employees that they are unable to pay statutory holiday pay and so we the employees (two) the first having been employed for two years fulltime and myself part time being employed for my first year have never been paid whether worked or not. They seem to think that they need not pay this at all if we do not work the holiday itself, whether we have worked the day before or after.

There was once or twice that we the employees agreed to forego the time and a half rate of pay just so that we could work and recieve at least our regular hourly wage. This was specific circumstances. It was not meant as an agreement for the entire time we were employed.

This is the circumstances at present. Please advise.

I agree with Vicki's post. I wish you well. It would be great if they were willing to train you but they seem resigned to not do that. It's their loss!

I think you've done all that you can do. I hope it works out for you but I'd be looking for other employment cause it doesn't sound like they want to train you.

It Ain't over till it's over!

Wednesday, February 18, 2009

Battles? I don't know what kind of battle any of you are struggling with but I to am going through something right now and I will fight through it! It Ain't over till it's over! I will not give up without a fight no matter what the adversities are right now.
Remember the lord does not give us anything he knows we can not handle no matter what it looks like when we are in the thick of it he has given us just the right amount of strength to get through it and come out victorious at the other end No matter if the outcome is in our favour or not We still come out the winners on the other side because we have made it through the valley!

Good luck with this. It can be difficult. We went through something similar when my husband's company "reorganized" him out of a job, then he found out they advertised for a replacement.

You seem to be ready to fight this battle. Don't let them get away with anything! You go, girl!

It says in the Good Book that adversity leads to character. Well, I'm a REAL character then! Just consider this a "character building" experience and go kick some butt! I know you can do it and you're going to leave those clowns at work looking foolish and small. Best of luck in this current battle!

Choices and Consequences!

Wednesday, February 18, 2009

Hmm well now let's just see how this is going ot play out.........
Yesterday I put pen to paper and wrote my bosses a personal letter expressing a few things and reminding them of things forgotten.
They have been making issue over mistakes made on cash corrected mind you but mistakes none the less and they have been like bull dogs with it biting into it and not letting go......lock jaw. So I once again stood up for myself like I have always done with them and pointed out that any of us have not been without mistakes I make them Ashley has made them Tony has made them and Moonhee has made them all corrected but mistakes made none the less. But for whatever reason they seem to forget that.
They have also forgotten the fact that because of the butcher packing up and leaving that my training was not completed the way it should have been and that under those circumstances have been doing my dead level best to work with what training I have been given. Because when that happened training just stopped no one picked up the slack and finished the training and the bigger part of that training was the electronic computerized cash till. So yes I made mistakes Now after being there a year part time they are holding this against me! including a few of the mistakes that they themselves made! NOT GOING TO HAPPEN!
I was called into the office yesterday morning as soon as I got there and was told because things had slowed down so much they were going to cut my hours back to tuesday's and Thursday's but if it picked up again I would be called back. I had no problem with this until I returned after lunch to find a Help wanted sign in the windows!
I immediately confronted her with this? Things are slow you're cutting back MY hours but hiring? I said what is really going on Moonhee! She proceeds to tell me that after a year I was still making mistakes on cash that they were going to replace me!
hence the letter....I simply stated that what they were doing is unjust and unfair to me when it was in fact their doing because of my unfinished training.
And.........
If they don't make the effort to compromise and finish my training..........this little matter will be taken up with the labour board! Because there is no just cause for letting an employee go who even though has made mistakes because of is willing to be retrained and complete the training. And too there ia a little thing called stat pay that they have never paid me for In fact they refused to pay me stat pay. They said they couldn't afford it because it was time and a half! So they would never book either of their employees to work on a stat day because of this But they neglect to realize that even though part time if I worked the day before or the day after pay is to be made even as regular payThere is something I could also go after if I choose and that would be mental and emotional distress ! Why because of the way they train and pressure you the attitude It's like brow beating! they have no patience or tolerence for time. They want you and expect you to grasp and be able to do things the way they want them to the letter immediatley! At the very least I could threaten them with this. Hehehe ok a little synasism? But hey they go through with this and I will do what I have to make them pay compensation. Because this is doable. Finish my training. Palin and simple. Make right the wrong.
This is their own undoing. Choices and Consequences!

I'm sorry you're gong through this madness. I'm sure you're a great employee and an asset to the business. Is it possible to find another job with a company that understands proper training is a NECESSITY if they want a qualified employee? I don't think I would let this stress bring me down if there were other options out there. This isn't the best economic time, but I KNOW your niche is out there, just waiting!

Best of luck, girlfriend. emoticon
