Scared Straight?

Friday, January 04, 2013

omg.. I think I now know what it means to be "scared straight". I have struggled with weight loss for years.. and backslid again for months now, gaining yet more weight... but after reading people's posts on what made them decide to lose weight.. and reading about hip replacements, knee replacements, etc.. it REALLY made me realize how SERIOUS this is.. I've thought about heart disease, diabetes.. that stuff is horrible of course, but it's invisible in some ways.. mechanical issues, like knees, hips, feet (already have issues there)... and to think that my WEIGHT would cause me to have to have multiple surgeries some day.. Lord HELP ME TO LIVE HEALTHIER!

It's so easy to ignore that little dial on the scale inching up and up and to think I'm feeling fine...that little twinge is nothing....I'll get started tomorrow or, next week, or next month when the weather gets better.
But today is the day. Today is your life.
I just had emergency back surgery. Talk about being scared straight. One of the things the surgeon said that convinced me to do it was- that pro athletes get things like this taken care of all the time- and I said- yeah they're in better shape- and my Doctor said- no- they are thinking- they need to get back to work. Their time is valuable- their time is money.
And it hit me. I'm no pro athlete. But my time is valuable. My life is valuable. I need to get "in the game". And I need to get back to work too!
Welcome to the game! emoticon emoticon

Victories for today

Wednesday, January 25, 2012

I said I had a courageous day today because it took courage for me to face my desires and say NO in order to affirm a bigger YES!

The carb. maximum my Dr. suggested was just too far beyond my reach, so I lowered is slightly. I had to still work at it, but was able to successfully eat through my day and stay within limits today. ONE day at a time...

I drank great gobs of water.
Though I switched up my lunch (they had turkey at the cafeteria today), I adjusted by eating my "lunch" for dinner and it worked out well.

I am currently stealing my self-will to stand on my slant board (exercise for a heel spur issue), and have almost finished for the night. (starting out with 15 mins, and will have to work up to 1/2 hour a DAY).

I avoided the tempting sugar at my church meeting tonight.

I'm now headed to get ready for bed and to read before sleep.

Yay me!

praying for safe travels..

Friday, January 20, 2012

Living in NJ, we are anticipating some snow/sleet tonight into tomorrow morning. I have to travel 1 hr. 45mins in whatever weather is out there at 6:30 in the morning. Need to go to bed, rest up, and take my time. Hoping the day will prove fun, since I have two hats; volunteer and coach...

Did good today for food.
Had annual exam: Prescription for 50 THOUSAND units of Vitamin D a week + addition of B12 supplement, and one big concern is borderline high cholesterol (which I've been for years). I think as I eat better, that will come down naturally.

Otherwise... did a few other good miscellaneous things.

Tired. Time for bed.
