Hello Sparkland, yes it is me the Nimsy. About the 1st surgery. Part 1

Sunday, May 25, 2014

First of all I want to thank my little sister whithout whom I dought I would be doing so well throughout this pre-surgery, I had so many meltdowns because I was terrified I was going to die during the first surgery. -Seven- my cuppie cake knew just what was going on and would talk me through it. SEVEN your the emoticon and I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Now for those of you that have texted me, called me and sent cards UR GR8. Marty you are another sister to me and your calls to talk to Nick just mean the world to him and to me. To the Moon, Tink. Alicia once again it is so wonderful to have an older sister, you make the sun come up in the mornings and the moon send off sparkles each evening. I love you gal.

OK HERE GOES:
My first back surgery was on March 12th. For this surgery my Dr and another DR worked together. They made a 10 inch incession below my belly button and the 2nd dr went in and moved all of my organs out of the way and tacked them down. Then my Dr went in and cracked the 3 bottom vertebrea apart and then teplace the disk whith dish he made from bone marrow he extracted from my right hip. after this was done the other dr put my organs back where they belong and off to recovery I went. By Friday they thought that I needed to be transfered to HealthSouth Fayetteville Center until the next surgery.
I knew that was a problem when I woke up after the ambulance ride in a room that looked just like a room in a nursing home. Cto find out I had been taken to Fayetteville Health and Reabilitation Center aka NURSING HOME. Well Nick arrived and we tried to get the nurse over my case but because it was already 5:30 we just kept getting the run around.
Well come Monday when a girl came to get me up into a wheel chair and then to step onto a scale.....................I kept telling her she could not do it alone and besides I could not use my right leg at all.....................well she thought she knew better and when she stood me up and moved the wheel chair BOOM down I went all 200+ pounds of me on to my knees. I managed to get my right leg out from under me and finally she got help to get me back up in the wheel chair...................back to my room.............I called my case worker and told her to call Robin at Dr Blankenships office and get me to the right place. THE AMBULANCE WAS THERE IN ABOUT 20 MINUTES and I as on my way back to the hospital. Of course they checked me over and made sure I as ready for the next surgery which was the next day.

Okay keep posted as I will log back on tomorrow or the next day and continue this saga.

It only gets better and better after this part.

Love, hugs and bucket fulls of blessings,

The Nimsy

SEVEN reporting on Nim's status!

Sunday, March 30, 2014

Yeah! She updated her own status! She'll be coming home from the rehab facility tomorrow. She seems to be in good spirits and is starting to get around on her own a little bit, doing basic self-care things, that we all take for granted each day! Home health care went to her home and made sure that she would have things in place to help her get around as best as possible. With home care and of course her DH Nick, she should be working on getting better every day :)
Yay Nims! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

SEVEN reporting on Nims' condition following surgeries.

Monday, March 24, 2014

I spoke with Nims today, and she sounded pretty good! I could even understand her Southern accent through pain medication! emoticon

Both surgeries went as expected, and now she's been moved to a rehab facility nearest to her home. She says it'll be 2-3 weeks before she'll be able to go home and be able to stand/walk/move without medical personnel standing by in case of a fall.

Obviously, she's in some pain, and rehab will be difficult. She's got some numbness in her lower right calf & foot, that she's hoping will go away in time with more movement.

On the "up" side, emoticon because of the rods placed on each side of the spine, she was told she would actually be 3.5 inches taller!! (In addition, they replaced 4 discs, and were able to put in her own bone marrow.) I'm sure Nims will explain more, when she's back.

Anyway- that's about it. As always, please keep her in your prayers for a speedy recovery!

January back surgery put on hold as I see another Doctor.

Tuesday, December 31, 2013

Hello everyone, yes you read it right............the back surgeries have been put on hold or maybe called off all together. Well, the ones in Springdale, AR that is.

I went in and saw my Attny on the 18th of this month (Dec) and I told him about the feelings I had about having to go 66 miles away from home to have 2 major back surgeries when I knew there were qualified DR's right here in my home town that could do the same surgeries or even ONE surgery to help my back. I told him that it made me so anxious to think about my DH driving 132 miles round trip EACH day when the weather might be BAD just to be there with me but then to take care of the animals back home. I also let him know that when I thought of being put UNDER twice it just gave me a really BAD feeling and so he took all that to my Worker's Comp company and they canceled the surgeries in Springdale (for now) and I am to see a new DR here in Fort Smith that I have heard nothing but good things about (he did a back surgery on one of my Mom's good friends (I knew this lady all my life) and when I talked to her she sang this DR's praises.

So I am once again NOT HAVING BACK SURGERY in January but will be getting in to see this new DR as soon as he has an appt open. Then we will discuss back surgery RIGHT HERE IN MY HOME TOWN at a HOSPITAL I am very comfortable being in which is about 8 minutes from my house.

So once again ladies and gents we are on a stand by until I see the new DR but I must tell you I FEEL WONDERFUL ABOUT ALL OF THESE CHANGES and to me that is what really counts.

So now I am as stress free as I have been in MONTHS and loving it. I promise to keep you all updated when I see the new DR and what he says.

Please continue to pray for me as I know that they are doing great things in my life.

Happy New Year to all and let us make this the HEALTHIEST YEAR EVER!!!!

When I first saw the title of your blog I thought oh no, not again but I have to admit I was concerned about the surgeries. I hope you get into seeing the new doctor soon. I'm glad you are feeling so much better. Stress can make things so much worse.

I am very thankful that you are being allowed to see a local Dr. It seems to me the anxiety of surgery (in the middle of the coldest, most dangerous driving conditions time of year no less) so far away is very justified. I'm so happy for you! I hope you can get the 1 surgery rather than 2.

Good luck! Stay safe and warm!

Nims I felt so funny when you first posted the surgeries you were having. I do know that extensive surgery that was planned may not be needed. My health care people seem to think I can't have surgery on my back but thinking of getting a 2nd opinion in spinal clinic in Little Rock. They do it with very little cutting and pinning. I have appointment scheduled for pain clinic for back injections January 22 and will see if that helps first. Know your pain honey as I'm going through it myself.

Oh, what a HUGE relief to know you're NOT going through with this just yet!! I didn't want to be all gloom n' doom but Nimmie, I just didn't like the plans laid out for you at all, so I kept my mouth shut, knowing it would just heap a' whole lot a' extra worries on ya if I spoke my concerns. I am sooo *happy* this 'door' SHUT so another one could open. Now, you can rest EZ BREEZY and have some time to set this up where YOU are the one making the decisions and not some paper pushers over in Worker's Comp!! Look for all the natural *stuff* first, Nim, and of course, you're in my prayers.

You, as well as the doctor and medical personnel, will be in my thoughts and prayers as you see this second doctor. It makes such a HUGE difference when you have confidence in those treating you.

A great start to the 2014!
