The final concert

Monday, December 16, 2013

We did our final concert for the winter 2013 season this afternoon. So much fun for me as a singer. The audience seemed to enjoy themselves. It was a great program with good variety. (BIG smile)

That's it for this evening. I'm tired and off to bed.

I'm back.

Friday, December 13, 2013

It has been several months since my last post. We came through the Rim Fire without any personal damage. The fire did a lot of damage to National Forest and National Park land. It will take years for recovery which makes me sad.

In order to help with recovery, and to try to mitigate future damage, seeds are being planted, roads are being shored up, erosion prevention work is being done and logging of damaged trees is ongoing. I spoke with a ranger recently who advised one of our favorite cycling roads may be closed until 2015.

On to other subjects:

We are pleased with our new house. It appears to be very well insulated and is just the right size for the wood burning stove to keep us warm and cozy. However, it is not perfect...the toilet keeps getting plugged. We are waiting for the local plumber to come fix the underlying problem and install a new toilet. In the meantime, we have to use the bathroom off the garage which is unheated. brrrrr. It could be a lot worse so I'm not complaining - just sayin'.

Last night was our first winter concert. "Our" being Pine Cone Singers. We had a lot of fun preparing and the first concert went ok. Hope the jitters are gone now and the rest of them will be even better. One tonight, then Sat afternoon and Sun afternoon.

That's all for now.

Rim Fire

Sunday, August 25, 2013

Boy can things change fast! A week ago a fire started near our town. By Monday, it was clear it would be coming our way. We watched daily to see if it would encroach upon the residential areas near us or if the fire fighters would be able to keep it to the forest. I hear the Rim Fire is the biggest forest fire in the country right now. Between the air attack and the folks on the ground, hardly any structures were lost. It could have been so much worse. But – it isn’t really over yet. The fire has moved on and is heading toward another Sierra Nevada community in our area. I am feeling relief for my friends but concerned because folks I don’t know are facing the same threat we just escaped.

Return from Paradise

Thursday, August 15, 2013

Had a great bike trip in Montana. Got home and:

Signed the papers on Monday. Recorded on Tuesday. Spent all Wednesday moving stuff. Whirlwind week. Will still have more to move tomorrow and then we have to clean the place we’re leaving.

The new place is a third the size of the one we were renting so it will be an adjustment trying to figure out where things will go. We also want to paint the master bedroom a neutral color. Right now it is dark blue – all four walls.

I’m thinking…shelves – lots of shelves.

I will have more motivation to try selling stuff on the internet. We have things we no longer need but they are not ready for the garbage pile.

Almost Ready

Wednesday, July 17, 2013

Most of today was spent preparing and packing for my trip.

I seem to be very scatter brained these days. I put all the camping gear except the sleeping bag in one bag. Dan had filled the sleeping pad with air for me yesterday so we could make sure it didn’t leak. After the bag was packed, I saw the sleeping pad. It had lost air but was it from a leak or because the air inside got cool? Oh wait! I already packed a different sleeping pad that does not need to be blown up. Now I don’t have to take the pump. Ended up unpacking all the camping gear, removing the pump, and putting the camping gear in another bag which also accommodated the sleeping bag. Whew! I finally feel like I’m ready. Tomorrow will just be packing the last minute stuff before heading out. Thank goodness for packing lists!

Dan and I did drive by our new place to determine how far it is from a fire hydrant (200’) and the fire stations (1 mile for Cal Fire and 1.5 miles for Groveland FD). Getting fire insurance is tough in a potential wild fire area. Many carriers will not even quote it and others are EXPENSIVE!

Yesterday, as I pulled out camping gear, I moved wrong and a horrible pain went through my hip area. It lasted all day and all night and into today. Fortunately, it is slowly going away. I’m moving very carefully. I will NOT let this deter me from my planned vacation.
