One month until the big 3-0!

Tuesday, May 14, 2013

I am less than a month away from my 30! & the sun is shining, so it's a great time to update! Not to mention that all but one of the kids are at school, so I've only got one child to distract me.
Well, this week has started Phase 3 of the Live Fit program. Phase 2 wasn't really too scary, just lifting, sometimes playing with the number of sets/reps, & 30 mins of elliptical on non-leg days. Phase 3 seems to be a whole new beast! Last night was legs, & that wasn't bad. There were more supersets & active rests (jumping rope instead of just resting for a min before the next set). I was feeling pretty confident that the hubs & I could handle this no problem.

I should've known better. My friend who did it last spring warned me about Phase 3. We were getting the kiddos ready for bed last night when my hubby suddenly pipes up, "Have you seen tomorrow's workout??"

30-second sprints on treadmill; Level 8; 30 seconds on/30 off; 30 minutes total

I'll be doing this with the hubs tonight, so I won't be moving completely non-stop, but it's gonna be pretty close! & then 30 mins of 30secs on/ 30secs off sprints! Not gonna lie, feeling pretty intimidated right about now!
But it's gorgeous out today, so hopefully the Y won't be too crazy & we'll be able to get this knocked out without having to wait around too much. Those sprints have be freaked out tho!

In my mission of 130 by 30, I'm still about 10-15lbs away, but that's my fault for not sticking too closely to the nutrition. Meh. The scale may not be moving much, but the inches have been coming off bit-by-bit & revealing more muscle! Still got that layer of "fluff" but I'm confident that it'll make it's way off too. Calorie-wise, the plan wants me between 1450-1750, which seems high compared to my Spark tracker, which has me in the 1200-1550 range. But, hey, I'm gonna go a little bit higher & see if that's what my body needs to let go of some more body fat.

Also some exciting news!!! I'm gonna be getting certified as a Body Pump instructor! The training is the first weekend in June, so I should be getting my prep materials any day now! Hopefully after that I can get AAFA certification & start teaching group fitness classes!

Anywho! the wee diva is getting restless & I need to make us some snacks to take to the park after we pick up the mister man from preschool.
Hope everyone is having a fantastic day!

Tired of thinking about food today!

Wednesday, April 03, 2013

The title of this blog pretty much sums it up today, haha. Just wanted to have a little mini rant.
I've been following Jamie Eason's Live Fit program, & eating clean as much as possible. Can I just say, that we're on week 3 & I *still* have not mastered how to get breakfast in within an hour of waking up! Especially since this plan wants you to eat egg whites & veggies, so I'm cooking it up. I spend my mornings getting the kids ready to head out to school, while cooking my breakfast & somehow, even if I microwaved my eggs & veggies, I never seem to be able to get it into my mouth before 9am. (I tend to get up around 7...hate me if you must, lol, but I also don't go to be until around midnight, usually later.)

Anywho! This meal plan has you eating every 2-3 hours...but we have lots of premade stuff that goes along with it & that hubs & I prep on Sundays. Pumpkin protein bars & mini chicken meatloaf muffins-- yum! Those are for the "tweener" mini meals. Where I've been hitting a mental roadblock is with lunch & dinner. I love eating clean...I love how I feel & how my body feels...but I'm so sick of all the flavors in my kitchen & thinking of meal ideas!

I know this phase will pass, just like anything else, but yesterday & today I'm just sick of thinking about it. I don't even think Pinterest could lure me back in today, lol. Maybe I'm just in need of a meal that I don't have to cook...

End of rant! Thanks for listening & I hope you all are having a great day!

Thanks, ladies! We ended up going to Buffalo Wild Wings tonight, so that eased my mental burden for the moment lol. I got a big ol' salad with grilled chicken & pico. & I might just have to premake something that I can just microwave...like mini frittatas ;)

What about cooking little mini frittatas in muffin tins beforehand?? I wouldn't be able to eat w/in an hour of waking up either, though, I usually wake up around 4/5, but don't eat until 7/8!!!

That is a huge commitment and I think you are doing great! I would probably not even attempt it while still having small kids.

Welcome to Spring Break-- Parent Edition

Saturday, March 23, 2013

Oh, spring break, we meet again.
The kids have been cooped up inside all winter, are stir crazy & testy...nothing like a week of play in the great outdoors to welcome spring, right?
Wait. We're supposed to get snow tomorrow & only be in the 30s this week. Well played, Spring, well played.
*sigh*
This is when I remind myself that I'm incredibly blessed to be able to stay home with them on a daily basis. Even when they'd rather be with their friends, lol. & this will be an excellent exercise in parental patience.

Last weekend I did get my corned beef! My aunt & uncle (who own a local butcher shop) invited us to their house on St. Patrick's day for corned beef, potatoes & cabbage. Then they surprised Robert with cake & ice cream for his birthday, so of course I had to try some of that too. It was fantastic! Yummy!

Then Monday I had my Reuben & made gluten-free banana bread. It was all very tasty, but after two days of too much sugar & salt & fat, I was feeling sluggish all day on Monday. After getting back to clean foods on Tuesday, I honestly felt like I had a hangover! Sugar withdrawl, maybe? By Wednesday I felt back to normal & that "lightness" I feel when I'm not eating processed foods was back. Yay!

This past Tuesday, Robert (the hubs) & I started Jamie Eason's Live Fit challenge on bodybuilding.com. The first two weeks, there is NO CARDIO. When I first read that, I almost felt like Iike I might have a panic attack, lol. Her explanation is that she wants all those calories that you're eating to be going towards building muscle.

The workouts so far I can handle. It's the eating every few hours that I have trouble with! I'm sure that other parents can relate. Some mornings I'm lucky to get anything for breakfast, let alone eat within the first hour of waking. I'm just so busy getting the kids ready & out to school that sometimes I don't finish eating, even if I've started eating, until 9am. Then you're supposed to have a mid-morning snack, lunch, afternoon snack, dinner (this usually ends up being my protein shake time) & finally one more snack (with no carbs/starches). That's a LOT of eating! I'm more of a breakfast, lunch, snack, dinner kinda gal. At least those I can usually remember to eat.

This ends up being, for the ladies, about 1500-1600 cals, give or take some for what veggies you're eating. I usually eat closer to 1300-1400, so that coupled with the no cardio rule kinda freaked me out. & I did put on about a pound...but I'm hoping that after a rest day tomorrow, I'll find out that it was just extra fluid in my tissues from my muscles gettin' bigger. ;-)

My Y friend, Sonya, did the same program last year & she just assured me to trust the program & by phase 2, after cardio has been added back in, that my muscles will be revealed. Yay, muscles!

Hope everyone is having a great weekend! We just started Pocahontas & are gonna pop some popcorn & snuggle in. If I can get these yahoos to hold still, that is!

Ambushed by Cravings

Friday, March 08, 2013

Luckily it's late enough at night that there's no way to get what I really want lol.

I didn't feel like I was consciously working on eating clean this week, but it just kinda happened! With the exception of some coffee (I just had to try that new Starbucks Hazelnut Macchiato-- nonfat!) & some water flavoring. Honestly, I think it was the fact that I made 2 types of soup this week! & the rest of the week's meals were simple meat & veggie fare.

I've also become more acquainted with another mom at the Y, thru Body Pump (we both wanna get certified) & found that our fitness goals are quite similar. & she turned me on to the Facebook page called Ripped Goddess, so all these motivational pics & posters have been popping up in my newsfeed. I'm sure this all has been in the back of my brain as well.

My point is that I didn't necessarily plan to eat so well & I'm high-fiving myself! Didn't even have any cravings until tonight. Not even with my mom's homemade cookies in the cupboard.

It started with a big poster-sized ad at the grocery store for corned beef. I ADORE corned beef sandwiches!!! Didn't bug me then while we were shopping. Then I was tinkering around on the Spark site, trying to make sure that my calorie levels are in line with my goals & activity level, because even tho I'd been on the low end most of the week without even trying, I am just super hungry tonight! (That search didn't go well, I only found how to alter my range manually.) of course I decided to google it next. One from Women's Health had me at about 2100 for active days & 1700 for rest days. Um, what?! Another I think had me around 1600. My current range thru Spark is 1200-1550. This should not be this confusing, ugh!

So, I haven't felt deprived or hungry all week, then all this thinking about calories, & I suddenly get walloped in the head by the desire for a Reuben. Or tiramisu. But mostly that Reuben. & I'm still hungry, even tho I'm in range. Good thing my desire for one is beaten by my laziness in not wanting to actually go out & get it! Ha!

Anywho, if I still REALLY want one tomorrow, I'll get one & put myself to the ultimate test (for me, anyway) & take half & wrap the other & immediately stash the wrapped half.

& that's my late-night craving story! Now to get some sleep so I can be up & at 'em for Body Pump. Hope everyone has a great weekend!!

Snow Day Update (aka My Sleeping Toddler Peed on Me!)

Tuesday, March 05, 2013

Today is our first, and chances are, only snow day of the school year. It doesn't seem any worse than the other snow storms we've had this year, so I'm kinda thinking the school administrators were feeling the need for a snow day as well. emoticon

And apparently the hour or so spent outside playing in the snow REALLY wore out my 3yr old, because she is currently passed out on the couch, & I was planning on snuggling on down with her...until she peed on me. Then I decided to change my sweat pants & blog instead. She is still in her pee pants because, hey, damage is already done & she usually doesn't sleep more than an hour. Pretty sure a bath & scrubbing down the couch can hold for that long.

So, the Sweat to Spring Break Challenge at the Y is all but in the bag. Yay! I've got 600 miles (for me that translates into 6 group fitness classes) to complete in the next 2 weeks. Barring a natural disaster or, Heaven forbid, some nasty sickness hits, I've got plenty of wiggle room to get there. But I've built up so much momentum, working out 6 days a week that I am not ready to let that go & let myself relax too much. I wanna go hard for the last two weeks of this challenge & still give it my best.

Plus, added incentive: the scale is on the down turn again! On 3/3 I weighed in at 148.2 & today I weighed in at 146.8. I know the extra workouts have affected water retention, so I have been taking them with a grain of salt. But with Sunday being my rest day & last night just being a rather quick HIIT class & jogging a REALLY slow mile, I think it let my body really finish recovering. My weight has been fluctuating so much in that 148-152lb window for so long, that being below that this morning really gave me hope that I am finally coming out of this plateau!

Now to keep this momentum going! I've noticed a tendancy to self-sabotage, so I'm going to have to really keep on top of my stress level & what foods I allow into the house.

& of course, once I decided to keep this workout momentum going, we get a massive snow day! The kids were out of school & since school was cancelled, I kind of assumed that the babysitting service at the Y would be closed too. By the time I decided to call & check, there wasn't enough time to get to my fave spin class. So I decided to give it another go for the evening Body Pump class...& it got cancelled! I had originally planned on attending both, & I end up at neither! Plan C was to wait for my husband to get home from work, & we could go to the Y & workout together...& now it's probably gonna be 6:30 before he gets home.

It's starting to look like a date with the treadmill in the fitness center after the kids are in bed! I'll play it by ear, & if it ends up that today is a rest day, then so be it-- Tomorrow is a new day.

Hope everyone is having a great & warm day!
