Congrats on being down a pound!

I'm glad the Dr. finally listened and agreed to the other thyroid test. It's probably the T4/T3 ratio? That's the one that tells how well you're converting the thyroid hormone made in your body to the usable form. I hope that gives you some answers. I do agree that too many docs seem to think that if the TSH and T4 free levels are good then it isn't thyroid.

Good Luck with test. It is difficult to fight doctors. I did it when I tried to find out if I do have diabetes. If I was diagnosed early I would not have 100 extra pounds I do have now. I stopped to gain when I got meds. I took one doctor after another till I found current one. Best wishes for you.

there are different thyroid tests and i cant remember them all but there are the 2 main ones every doc runs. then they dont think they have to run the third one because, well, if the others are normal....but many times when they run that third one they find the problem. I would frankly LOVE this to be positive...its an easy fix although it takes some time to straighten the problem out.
But really, very few docs will consent to running this one....so i'm pleased she is listening to me!

Good going on being down a pound! I don't know why there should be such a problem running a thyroid test. I didn't think that one was that hard or expensive. Hope it comes out all right!

Isn't it amazing we have to fight with our doctors to work on being healthy? I hope the tests are normal. I know it might help to understand your difficulties, but on the other hand it would be one more thing you would need to deal with. Good luck, friend.

ok so i didnt eat anything bad at the fair. well almost..i had a quarter of a poutine and a third of a ribbon fry. other than that i was fine..it was too darn hot to eat. as in...STINKIN hot...all summer its been cool and wet and BAM the 90s and sun hit us. bummer!
ok so today i had a doc appt. she was pleased that even with the horrid swelling i have from the heat i stayed exactly the same, which means i lost. so thats a good thing!! she figures i'm down about 15 pounds, which is right on track with where i was before the heat.
i have mega cakes to do...a birch cake for tomorrow..a 3 tier baby cake for friday, and a stencilled difficult tiny piped 3 tier for sat.
thats my life...whats yours?

My dear friend, what an awesome job you are doing. I got to drive by the fair gate, but we were on our way to PS and dinner at brothers so I couldn't come in. I was straining to look for you as we drove by...did you feel the tingling. Soon friend, soon we are going to get together. I'm afraid it will have to be a weekend though as my time off at work is pretty well spoken for. I cannot believe you stopped with only 1/3 poutine etc. I know how much you love that stuff. The heat probably helped, I don't know about you, but it doesn't make me feel like eating much and it was so ooooo hot last week. You keep up the good work!

three pounds!!

Saturday, August 08, 2009

YAY!! i lost 3 pounds this week! and the tower cake is done and delivered, my big wedding cake for next weekend cancelled, so for the first time in YEARS i dont have to be up all night every night of fair week
I AM worried about the food at the fair. i work there, as an announcer for the horse and goat shows. lets see,,,,there's fried dough with maple fudge and chocolate fudge and nuts. fried ravioli, cotton candy. burgers and doggers and..omg...gasp...poutine. and fried oreos and fried twinkies...
ok so lets narrow it down. i can do without the doggers and burgers. never tried fried oreos or twinkies so what i dont know wont hurt me and no need to find out huh?
poutine...thats another story. heart attack on a plate and i love the stuff...maybe if i got ONE SMALL through the whole 9 days it would be ok. Fried dough..ok. if i got ONE with half choc fudge and half maple...and i only ate a few bites and gave the rest away do you think i'd be ok?
if i begged the guy who brings us food to PLEASE find me SOMETHING not fried and greasy? seems these fairs dont know how to make a turkey sandwich or a salad....

WAY TO GO ON THE 3LBS. I am jealous. LOL

As for the fair! SHARE! And can you pack some snack of your own? I know not as fun and personally I might pack it but never eat it!

Another idea is get there a little early and scope out the booth and then send the person with a better idea.

I know our fair has crepes that you can get a pretty good fillings in and YUMMMY! And we also have lots of corn another favorite of mine.

Hope that helps.

Way to go on the -3!!!

Do they HAVE healthy food at the fair? I thought anything not fried was banned...

Portion control is key and you have a plan so you're on the right track. And if you slip, it is one slip (or 9 days worth of slip) but not the end of the road. You're way too strong for that!

I would take full litter of TAIslim and go to gym for seven days a week if I can, but i cannot give up Funnel cake! So I cannot give up any other food that I did not try.
You are great, you lost 3 pounds. I did not lose even one! I do not go to fair week just because I do not have one around or I do not know where it is. If I do I will try all what I see, just cannot keep myself under control.
As you see I am not really good adviser.

Wow, I have a hard time when I go to festivals for just a day! :/
I try to look on the festival website to see who the food vendors will be (sometimes it even lists what they serve) and plan from there.
My best options recently have been falafel sandwich (no sauce, no feta, please!), bean soup in a bread bowl (I only eat part of the bowl), and a grill place where they had a separate grill for portobellos and sweet corn.

I always bring granola bars and such in my purse to either substitute for a meal or keep me from hunger till I go home. :P
If you have to have something bad, maybe try splitting it with someone. :/

Gosh, good luck!!

And congratulations on the 3 lbs, that's amazing!!

Geez Doxy I want to go to YOUR fair!! there IS a booth that makes fruit smoothies i know the fair board wont spring for that they are expensive.
Coke bought the grandstand and digital signs for the fair so no booth can sell anything but coke products. so when they bring us a cooler of drinks there is nothing diet but coke and i cant have any caffeine. i have begged for them to get diet sprite but its not on the grounds. so i do bring several thermoses of water and at least i have that!!

omg--i gained 12 pounds reading that list! lol but i agree...if you have a bite here and there you will be fine. Our fairs in california have corn on a stick...fab...skip the butter...and we also have asian food booths that do have chicken on a stick (good protein if you can handle the sodium--drink lots of water), we also have some bbq places that do tritip without the bbq sauce. get woked veggies from the asian place and ta da................but you have to have some of the naughty....it isn't likeyou are going to do it every week. and just knowing that you had some will make it better and show that you have control over the food.

have a blast! and congrats on that loss!

Mmmmmm....poutine. I only eat poutine when someone from back home (MB) comes to visit me where I now live (QC). If you say "poutine" like a Quebecer it comes out more like "put - in" except more like "pu - tin." It's definitely NOT "poo-teen."
If I were you I'd invest in a small cooler and bring my own food! I can' imagine that any of what you described will do your guts any good. And by that I mean, where's the fibre??!

I still don't see how anyone can eat anything that starts with poo! emoticon emoticon That would keep me away. As for the rest...maybe get a small on the dough and take a bite and give it away? That way you'd get your taste of it and feel good about sharing!

And if you have a cooler, you could pack it with healthy stuff. Or threaten the guy within an inch of his life and then maybe he'll bring you something not fried. At our fair, it's the elephant ears that get me! We usually get one and share it with the entire gang that goes, usually about 8 people. Fairs are scary places!

Great work on the loss, the cake (which was fab, btw!), and the NO cake next weekend!!

Hey Holly, Just a word of caution. I did that once for a week, real heavy on fruits and vegetables, lots of fruit....I was so excited to have stuck to the plan and was looking for a weight loss....and I gained.....fruit = sugar, it worked against me. It was such a downer because I was so proud of having stuck to it so well. Anyway, careful with overloading the fruit and go heavier on the veggies. BTW....last time DAvid and I were in POtsdam we stopped at a restaurant and the had POUTEN on the menu....in my whole life living up there I had never heard of it before you talked about having it at the fair, and that certainly was the first time I had ever seen it on a menu. How in the world did we grow up 45 mins from each other and me not even know about pouten when you love it so much. Hope to see you soon, like in next week....!
